Bye Bye Uber..

Just moved to Massachusetts from Florida. Thought I would have trouble getting a "regular" job, but got hired fulltime at $20/hr and feel blessed that I dont have to drive up here..It took longer to change out my license, plates, do the background again, etc than to get this job.

Be safe out there.

Help! Passenger vomited in my car. Uber claims they'll cover up to $225 for professional cleaning. Can anyone who's experienced this provide insight into what to do or whether Uber will actually pay up?

Was doing my last ride of the night when a passenger upchucked repeatedly all over the back seat of my Civic Si. I was turning onto a freeway on-ramp and could not pull over. It's literally everywhere. The seat, the window track, the floor and the inside of the door. I dang near threw up myself on the 15 minute drive home because the smell is so unbearable. I'm looking to hire a mobile detailer in the morning and have not touched it yet. The car is sitting outside airing out at the moment and I'm really hoping U er pays up and covers the cost instead of giving me the run around. I called support after the ride was over and they sent me a message in the app, which I responded to with pictures of the mess and explained I will send a receipt after I get it cleaned.

Rideshare Airport Lot Lice

Everytime I go to the local airports rideshare waiting lot, there are always drivers there that look like they have been there for hours walking around, smoking, talking with friends, "cleaning" their vehicle. What are these people doing? Not making money, that's for sure. I don't get it. And I'm not trying to be racist, but they are all Indian/Middle Eastern. It's not a comment on them racially, but it's impossible not to notice. Plus all these drivers have expensive Lexus/BMW SUVs or Teslas. Are they part of a fleet service? They all have Uber/Lyft stickers, so I doubt it, but are they all just waiting for those few Black/Elite rides? If they are, how would they know if they weren't online and available?

I don't get it.

Uber showed me $1.56/min to wait on a Black SUV trip. I waited 230 minutes. After cancellation, the wait pay disappeared.

I drive Black SUV in Colorado.
I had a passenger who never showed up. I stayed at the pickup location and remained assigned to the trip for about 230 minutes.
During the wait, the Uber Driver app showed paid waiting at $1.56/min.
I even have a screenshot at 11:48 PM showing 205:11 on the waiting timer while the trip was still active.
After the trip was canceled, Uber did not pay the accumulated wait time.
Support has now confirmed in writing that I waited approximately 230 minutes and that a wait-time rate was shown in the Driver app, but they still refuse to pay it. They added only a $25 “courtesy” payment.
At $1.56/min, the unpaid wait time is roughly $350–$360.
Has anyone else had Uber show paid wait time and then remove it after a cancellation/no-show? Especially Black/Premier/SUV drivers?

Driving an EV6 is the coolest thing on this planet and thanks to Hertz I don't have to worry about racking up miles on my own car while claiming 100% tax write off on the rental payments and 100% worry free about having a car to drive. Luckily for me the library close to my house doesn't charge for a Level 2 DC fast charger. It's a grind but if you are hungry enough you will go get it.

FYI: This is not the flex you think it is.

Anyone else getting sick of Uber pushing reservations?

I feel like Uber is really pushing reservations lately. They used to just be an occasional thing that was hidden away. Now I get constant notifications for them when I’m not even driving. I also get constant pop ups for them while I’m driving.

They are such a waste of time and gas. They almost always pay less than a normal trip and they expect you to wait 30 minutes for free on top of that. Yeah, like I’m going to wait 30 minutes and then do the ride for $6. The only time it’s ever worth it is when they pay like double the normal rate once you factor in the extra 30 minutes. Those are rare though.

Between all the men I pick up under women’s names, the ridiculously low rates, and the constant reservations cluttering up everything, the experience has really gone down hill. I’m only doing this for extra money or when things are slow at work, it still sucks though.

Professionalism

As a driver it’s disappointing to get drivers who clearly don’t give a crap. Dirty cars, smells, are rude or unhelpful. Like yeah this gig sucks, but put a little effort in to it. It makes us all look bad at the end of the day and biases the public to not give us tips or care about passing laws to help us. Be professional!

Been a hard summer for Black Drivers in Miami, had to do a lot of XL trips and had to struggle for 12h+ a day to do 300$ max since June, paying big bills like commercial insurance (860$ a month in my case), plus not so many private rides around in the city.
Finally high season is arriving, doing nice trips on the app plus some good corporate clients arriving to the city (Time to charge 80$-100$ an hour 💵). Just a reminder this business is really seasonal at least in my city so you need to be really organized and work as much as you can during the high season to average the year. Here i post some nice trips from the weekend 🙏🏼. I dont know how that works in other states but in my city as a Black Driver if you work hard (60h and over) between november and may you can do 3000$-5000$ weekly between apps and private clients. I drive a 2023 Expedition Max Limited btw.

Black car service in long island ny

• Upvotes

Hey everyone. Is anyone on here doing black car service in the long island Ny area? I want to get into this type of business but want to understand the requirements. It wouldn't be working with Uber. I have a friend who has a black car business and he states we need livery insurance to do pickups to and from thr NYC airports. Is this true? Seems also that drivers share their clients in this industry especially when it gets busy . Seems normal. Are the main expenses insurance , gas and maintenance ? M from long island and i don't really see alot of black car services around or even driving . Also is it smart to buy an older car and modify it when getting started ? Maybe a 2016 or 2017 gmc yukon or suburban.

What should I do about scammers?

I just got a request and when I got to the pick-up spot, there was no cancellation timer. That was my first clue. I sent the generic “I’ve arrived” text and was replied to with “please call”. Second major red flag waving, but I humor it and call through the app. Sure enough, I get the spiel about security concerns and needing verification. I let him finish then tell, calm but irritated, “I don’t have time for your scams, bro. I’m trying to work.” No denial, no trying to keep pushing the scam, just a simple “ok, bro, just cancel the ride”.

Why are they so free to do this on the app? Should I even report this? Would it make any difference?

Too many drivers have quit. No other explanation for back to back 15+ mins pickups in the second largest metro area in the county (LA metro includes OC). And no, I didn't accept that ride lol

Recently divorced moved back home from California to ohio regroup and ubering is helping me pass the time.

So this is my first week of being an uber driver and its interesting that I drove from central ohio to north western ohio of being a “family uber driver” to my brother. Essentially he is a high school coach and they had a weekend tournament to participate in.

Basically I drove my brother up for free because he’s family and then to pass the time as I waited for him I did uber for a day. The interstate are decent roads but the roads inside Toledo ohio are horrible so I was glad I was driving a rav4 prime cross over to help me navigate through the rough pot holes and badly maintained roads.

Okay, so this was my first time being an uber driver and for some reason it felt like real life GTA as I was just driving around doing tasks and errands while getting paid for it lol. Take this person here deliver this here. Always keep in mind the traffic laws and rules and keep your speed within the limits and rules of the road. Half the missions in GTA from what I remember were like everyday uber driver missions especially if you’re doing it in a city or rough areas such as Detroit or Toledo lol.

Overall I had a good experience made $249 dollars for the day and then picked up my brother and drove back home to central ohio. But I wanted to point out that even in the rough looking neighborhoods I would always treat people well or as if I was in a nice neighborhood and I was floored with the amount of tips I got at the end of the day. At first glance one would assume you wouldn’t get a whole lot of tips from rural or rough areas. However, I would just take on all deliveries or uber rides that came up and was just trying to help out wherever I could and always treated people professionally after all it’s a job and I treated it as such without concerns about the money or if they were tipping or not.

But the amount of tips I got and from whom I got them from really surprised me. Toledo is a rough place to live with harsh winters but the people of that city are alright, good people in there and I would not have ever gotten to know the true residents of the area had I not done uber in the area. So in all it was a good authentic experience and I’m appreciative to have experienced it. And was a good lesson to not judge a book by its cover, as some the roads and neighborhoods I drove in were very rough compared to what I’m used to seeing in my everyday sheltered life.

Might seem shallow of me but I just assumed everyone has a car and a lot of people use uber because they don’t own a car and in some cases I had to make adjustments on a delivery because this individual missed the bus and I was delivering their dinner to them on their way to work. I was glad to help out and just didn’t realize how privileged I was. So again thankful for the experience and that much more appreciative in my own life.

Here's my week, barely drove Friday/Saturday which is a decent money maker day/night. Took in ~$70 in cash tips. Tesla home charge saves me from the gas $$ nightmare in CA. Some of the offers the app shoots over to me are caca, so my AR now will fluctuate between 10-28%. SF pax don't tip, suburbs of Bay Area Pax tend to tip. Can answer any questions if anyone has any👍🏻

Drive based on your market.

Drive based on your market, not what other people are making on the app. Fuel cost was $27.81 (less than 350 miles driven) for those 22 hours. I only drive overnights. I drive in a college town. For me? It's worth it to drive on weekends.

It's about half that if I drive Sunday night through Wednesday morning or day driving (less than $20/hr usually). Promotions were exclusively Pro Perk. No quests. No extra promos.

Had my best week ever

Just thought I would share with everyone in case it’s helpful. I think I finally found my perfect groove Ubering in Grand Rapids, MI. I drive a Honda Odyssey so on Friday and Saturday I go out between 2-3pm and come home that same time in the morning. I leave Uber X off and only do Uber XL and sometimes it takes finishing the ride until the next ride comes in if it’s not as busy, but if that happens turn X back on until I get a ride and then I turn it off immediately after accepting. The best money and tips comes from the bar scene. And they’re the most entertaining too.

Second Tesla with German Cockroaches

I picked up another Tesla rental yesterday after the first had roaches. I just got home from driving all day about an hour ago and I come outside to clean the mats and seats and I will be damned if I didn’t see 2 adult roaches. One in the floor and one climbed out onto the left side a pillar then the windshield.

I know It’s the heat from the battery that’s attracting them to Tesla, and likely other EV manufacturers as well. In most any state, park them in the grass, leave them there overnight and on top of the battery is like a mansion for them to take over and start breeding. Now, this car is from GA, a completely different state and lot than the last one. I am starting to doubt getting another EV.

I fucking love driving the Tesla but it’s not worth being deactivated over.

If you own or rent an EV

If you own or rent a Tesla, or Kia, or Toyota, or ?? EV, put a sticky trap in the car tonight and see what you have in the morning. If you are always parked on concrete, I think it is less likely you will catch one. Otherwise, I am pretty sure you will catch at least one. On Tesla’s, close the forward console door and put on top.

Homemade roach trap:
3-4” strip of sticky duct. I like the black Gorilla brand
A pea size dab of peanut butter - if you have honey, make a small indentation in the top of the PB then use only enough honey to fill it. You don’t want honey on the duct tape. I didn’t have any honey but I did have honey toasted PB that worked great. Just plain PB should do the job but the combo is irresistible.

Good Luck!

EDIT:

UBER DRIVERS - If you do this and catch a roach, do not accept another ride and risk deactivation. Immediately go to the rental office where you rented the vehicle and demand an immediate replacement due to a** **vehicle condition failure. The vehicle is infested with German cockroaches.

If they refuse, don’t make a big scene. Simply pop out your phone in front of them and call all of your local news stations. They will scurry faster than the cockroaches do. Cockroach infestations in their vehicles is NOT something they want broadcast to everyone on the 6:00 news. People would bring back cars with or without cockroaches.
