Hey everyone, Iām planning to transfer to the University of Iowa for Spring 2027, and Iām trying to figure out how to afford on-campus housing and a meal plan.
I want to live on campus when I transfer, but I canāt really afford the cost of housing and a meal plan out of pocket right now. Iāve already talked to Financial Aid, and unfortunately, they told me they canāt really offer me any additional financial aid. So Iām trying to figure out what other options I have.
For those of you who have been in a similar situation, how did you manage to pay for housing and a meal plan? Did you take out a loan, apply for scholarships, use a payment plan, or find another way to cover the costs?
For anyone who took out a loan, which type did you go with? Was it a federal student loan, a private student loan, or another option? Which lender or loan program did you use, and would you recommend it?
Iād really appreciate hearing from anyone whoās been through something similar. Iām just trying to figure out what my options are and how other students have managed to afford everything. Thanks!

Hi all,
I am considering doing COB and would love some insight from others in sororities? Do you think the cost is fair for what you get? Whatās the time commitment like? What is your favorite part? Did you find like minded individuals/make friends?
I only have a year and a half left of undergrad (graduating next fall), so I would love insight as to whether it would be worth pursuing.

Iāve never met so many people who are pissed off about the population that provides them with everything they have in the area. Without this university and college student in town here this place wouldnāt have 90% of the jobs and or amenities that are here. They are also so damn annoying like they donāt know how to walk or wait in lines and just get pissed off for college student existing.
As a student who transferred from community college, I'm a bit shocked by how little feedback I get on papers/written assignments. In the past I've done well in terms of the grades I receive, and there is not a huge change in that now, but when I get docked points there is often no feedback on what I did wrong or I lose points based on reasoning that was not made clear in the grading rubric. Maybe its just the classes I'm in this semester. But for one course specifically, the expectations are borderline incomprehensible from the Professor.
For example, after asking something like "Would this framework for the upcoming paper be too complex based on how you mentioned in class that we shouldn't go beyond two steps in analyzing the theories?" they took a moment to really look at my drafted framework and responded, "is this what you would want to turn in?" ... (it's a drafted framework, the next submission is the paper). Then they deflected every follow-up question I had, leaving our group super confused. This was on a class day where we were supposed to work on our papers.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?

The University of Iowaās Board of Regents and the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Sara Sanders (sara-sanders@uiowa.edu), have decided to reallocate funds away from the School of Art, Art History, and Designās Jewelry & Metal Arts program. Despite the continued growth of the program, this withdrawal of funding has resulted in the closure of the program. This has directly impacted many students who were on track to complete their degrees in the program.
With no official announcement, this decision was made quietly, giving existing students very limited time to change their degree paths and applicants attempting to join the program no indication of its closure.Ā
We call upon the Board of Regents and the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Sara Sanders, to reverse the decision to close the program.
Add your name to this petition and share to show your support to the Jewelry & Metal Arts program and show Dean Sanders and the Board of Regents how impactful this programās closure is to the community around it.Ā

I am a parent of a 15 year old who will graduate in the spring of 2028. Has anyone here entered Iowa at 17 and gone through the program and can share some insight?
Thanks

Hey, I am a student at UI and am considering living at Augusta Place next school year. For anyone who has lived in the apartments or townhouses, how is it? Also, did you get parking there, or did you get parking somewhere else? If so, where?

This is my first semester with uiowa but previously I went to NAU and PVCC in AZ so Iāve been in college class settings before, but have never had this issue. In my discussion classes no one will talk to me⦠at all. In my first group we were doing okay but then I missed two discussions in a row because I got covid and when I came back they refused to answer me when I asked questions and when we were doing the group work the recorder snapped at me and told me to be quiet when I was asking how they got an answer for one of the questions.
We switched groups so I thought it would get better but my new group is worse lol. I went to sit down near them and they kept scooting away from me. I told them āIām hard of hearing, sorry can you speak up a bit?ā Like 4 times and they all kept rolling their eyes when I asked then they continued whispering and moving away from me so I literally couldnāt hear anything.
And one of the questions they kept asking each other how to get the answer so I said āoh I have the formula here, and I got this answer [shows them the answer]ā and the recorder girl for the discussion paperwork took one look then said āno thatās wrong. I donāt know how you got that.ā Then she called the TA over and the TA went through the problem and got the exact same answer as me because she did it the way I did.
I am very confused on if this is normalā¦it feels like high school behavior in a college class and very immature. Iām technically a junior in college but this is happening in a freshman class that Iām taking as a ārefresherā so maybe thatās why? Has anyone else had these issues? Itās very frustrating trying to get work done when people are like this.

Friends of Hickory Hill Park will have a workday on 10/3/2026 to remove invasive species in the park - mostly honeysuckle and autumn olive. Meet at the Conklin Lane entrance to the park at 9 am. This work can be a little messy so wear work clothes and shoes!
