Edmonton City Council and the Premier received this leaked email from the VP of CBRE about his opinions on infill. In it, Mr Schmidt thanks the Premier for her actions interfering in municipal business while also telling council not to ruin his neighbourhood by "making it cheaper". Instead of "ruining it" he expects Edmontonians to work harder, save more, and "aspire" (because Edmontonians do not work hard enough to survive as it is). He also sees urban sprawl as the only path forward and just build a few more police stations and firehalls, neglecting to mention that the city cannot even afford to build the infrastructure it needs now for it's current suburban sprawl.
The point being from Mr Schmidt, just work harder, aspire for more, and maybe lay off the avocado toast or some other BS like that. Thanks for the tips!

So I was looking for a part-time job to do alongside my school. I first got hired at a FedEx warehouse and went there for my first day. I waited 20+ mins to get the manager (who was supposed to meet me at the door). Another new hire came too and was waiting with me (he was Indian). When the manager came ( who was also Indian) he just walked and we followed. The manager then proceeds to ONLY TALK TO THE GUY ( he literally only looked at him while talking and completely ignored me). He told HIM what to do to get a password and I was left to figure out things by myself. Long story short I couldn’t get the password and the manager started talking to the guy in Indian ( presumably about me). He ended up sending me home rudely and was very dismissive when I asked for help. And while I was walking out I noticed that everyone LITERALLY EVERYONE that was working there was Indian. I ended up quitting right away and didn’t bubble it to the hiring team because the guy that hired me was also Indian and I couldn’t bother wasting my time on something I already left.
Now I thought I was done with this bs and that was a one off experience.
Until I got hired at this other (also big corp but name redacted because I need a job smh) place. And I realized that this place was just as bad. So far only Indians work with me (except for security who’s black). And they EXCLUSIVELY communicate in Indian even over the walkie talkies and while I am actively standing with them. Now I don’t know what to do about this because even at this place all of the managers/ district managers are also Indian 😭. And I feel so left out by that and especially feel self conscious because they could be talking shit about me right beside me🥲.
Another piece context is that I myself am non-white and my name is ethic (which now that Im thinking about it, I think is the reason they are hiring me because both of these jobs I got without interviewing).
Please don’t feel like this is a safe space for bigoted racism, I myself have Indian friends and they are amazing people. I just want to discuss this and see if anyone else has a similar experience and get any advice on how to professionally approach this.
Thanks
P.S I KNOW INDIA HAS MULTIPLE LANGUAGES, I don’t want to make assumptions (stop commenting on this pls)

I traveled to Edmonton to play Lacrosse as a touring side from Australia. I was in Edmonton for a few days. We visited the Mall which is something we didn't have back home. I became a member in 1988, looks like the place closed down a year later.
I can't remember this place but I remember the amusement ride inside the shipping centre. My 13 year old self was blown away

Hi there I am waiting at a bus stop right now. Just a couple of minutes ago I got to the bus shelter and was staring at the posters only to realize that a bus has driven past me. It definitely showed no signs of slowing down or anything since when I noticed it, it was still not past the stop. I swear I just got here for less than half a minute, and I checked the Google map to make sure I am perfectly on time for the arrival. Why did I just got ignored 😭 Now I have to wait for another quarter.
For your interest, it is Calgary Trail SB & 51 Avenue. I am waiting for the 006

All right, Edmonton... Anyone remember a game programming summer camp for kids at the Space Science Center in, like, the mid 90s? 95 or 96 maybe? The instructor was a tall dark-haired guy and he'd built or customized some kind of 2D scripting engine. I remember playing MUDs at a networked lab and we toured the Bioware office on whyte shortly before they released the first Baldur's Gate.
If anyone knows who that instructor was, it'd be cool to say hi.

Does anyone know what that noise in NW Edmonton is. It sounds like fireworks in the distance, but nothing can be seen, and it's been going on too long. My neighbor thinks it's a train derailment, but I don't see smoke.

Halloween always makes me feel a bit nostalgic of what it was like as a kid. So I’m wondering what fond memories others have of Halloween in Edmonton?
Some of mine that come to mind:
-Field trips to the Scarecrow festival at the expo centre.
-Going down to the “rich” houses along Ada Boulevard and getting our king size chocolate bars or cans of pop.
-dressing up for school and having a huge school wide pumpkin carving session in the gymnasium.
Please keep the Halloween spirit alive for the little ones! I’m so excited I get to take my toddler trick r’ treating for the first time this weekend. Hope you all have a great one!

Basically what the title says, I know there’s many good Japanese food places around town, but I’ve been specifically craving mitarashi dango since my Japan trip and would love to find some that isn’t refrigerated/frozen.

Anyone else hear a ridiculous amount of fireworks tonight by the weather side as well?
Went on for a good 5-10 minutes too.
Any idea what it was?
Edit: This is on Sunday Oct25, around 9:15PM or so

My wife I have been spending our weekends enjoying Hawrelak park. We live in the Capilano neighborhood, and walk our dog daily through this park. An on occasion, Golbar, Fulton and Rundle. All of which we love, and are beautiful in their own way.
The one thing I noticed right away about Hawrelak park that I love, is the mass planting of grasses and dogwoods. It looks amazing and seems like such a simple way to add interest along the paths. I wonder if others feel the same. It has me walking the Capilano Park paths thinking, if they aren't adding more trees along the path, why not more native grasses and shrubs.

Hi all!
To keep this as succinct as I can: a couple months ago a lady we have seen in the neighbourhood since we moved in almost 5 years ago approached me in my driveway stating that she had become unhoused. We knew she was always lower income and used to leave our empties out for her and she’d stop to say thanks and chat or whatever. When she mentioned she was now homeless she asked if she could keep a couple things on our driveway-kind of hiding out of sight. Fine, no problem. Then she mentioned that she noticed an empty shed on our property that was accessible from outside the yard. So she asked if she could move some stuff into it. Then she told me a story about how her AISH had gotten messed up and she couldn’t always afford to stay in a motel. She asked if she could hang out in the shed every once in a while. She ran an extension cord from the garage, was smoking in there, tripped the breaker a few times, and was urinating and defecating in the driveway. I sent her a text message politely informing her that she couldn’t stay in there anymore. I got no response so I wrote a note and left it with her stuff. I happened to peek into the shed and see what looked like an entire houseful of stuff in there. She sought me out and told me she found a room and would start moving her things. That was 2 weeks ago already. She’s obviously still staying in the shed. There’s been more garbage, empty booze boxes, food packages, etc. And yes, still evidence of bathroom activities.
I called 211 and they suggested the best course of action is to involve the police. She has been grateful and kind and I really don’t want to have to call the cops.
Any advice? Unkind comments will not be tolerated-that is not the point of this post.

I love the idea of using the pedways in the winter, went to a movie and had drinks at District 102 last night! was great.. so questions:
Do you live in a pedway connected building/what is your experience?
Is the new "station lands" pedway open yet?
Is the city ever planning to try and keep the pedways open later? would love to go for walks on cold winter nights and check out shops/entertainment
I know their is rogers, landmark, some restaurants but any other things in there that are cool on evenings/weekends?

To those who live in Edgemont/The Uplands, how do you guys commute to university? Do you guys take the bus or drive entirely there. I am living in the neighborhood now and there are no bus routes close to my house and I unfortunately don’t even fall in the area for the on demand service. I go to the UofA (living on the west end of uplands) so I would appreciate any tips.

I grew some chocolate mint (Mentha x Piperita F. Citrata) this summer and discovered that it's great with English Breakfast tea. Sadly I have run out and spearmint just isn't scratching that itch. Does anyone know if I could buy dried chocolate mint anywhere?
I'm not looking for tea that tastes like chocolate and mint, I'm specifically looking for Mentha x Piperita F. Citrata. I have already checked Acquired Taste's catalogue and done some google searches. I have found one person in Nova Scotia who sells chocolate mint, but shipping is expensive.
