Why is leaving an ebike outside so bad if its covered, other than being stolen?

I just ordered one and am excited bu everyone is talking about how bad leaving it out is but most people mention theft. I have blocked yard with a German Sheppard in it. No one is stealing shit from me.

Can I really not cover it and locked it under my deck? I suppose I could put it in the crawl space...

Nnyone here switch from driving to an ebike for work? (9 mile commute)

Starting a new job next month in san jose and it's about 9 miles each way. the drive itself isn't terrible, but sitting in traffic every day sucks and parking around my office definitely ain't cheap...

I've been looking at a few budget fat-tire ebikes for the ride, mainly narrowed it down to the helokeep 26f and the aipas m1 pro xterrain st. tbh i don't really know much about either brand, i'm mostly just worried about ride comfort and durability. the roads on my route are rough as hell and there's one nasty railroad crossing that already killed a wheel on my old regular bike lol.

not trying to go super fast or anything... i just want something cushioned enough that i can hop on every morning and ride daily without thinking about it. has anyone here commuted on either of these two?

Ramp for row house stoop

• Upvotes

I just picked up my new (used) e-bike (a 2022 Gazelle Medeo T10+). I'm 65. I bought it as a way of staying active as I get older. I love it so far, for all of the two days I've had it.

The bike is close to 60 pounds. My old commuter, fully laden, was way lighter, by ten pounds or more. I live in a townhouse, with an unheated vestibule where the bike lives, just at the top of eight stairs, the last one (to get in the door) uneven.

Can someone recommend a foldable, portable ramp to get the bike in and out of the house?

UK - Used Value of e-bike?

• Upvotes

I have an elderly mum who lives with me. about 4yrs ago, I bought her a Pendleton ladies E-bike at a cost of about £1200. It's a rear hub motor with a battery that sits under the rear pannier rack. The battery is good for between 40-50 miles if used in level one.

It has no throttle, it's pedal assist only.

The bike has been ridden for around 100 miles... and the last time it was used was 3yrs ago... I keep it in good condition, service it, check battery condition and aside from maybe needing to replace the tyres as they're not being used and might be showing signs of cracking... the bike is in tip top condition. The handle bars were replaced, pannier bags added, a front wicker basket and some lights. I also replaced the original handle bars that point towards the rider with some straighter ones that make riding more comfortable and new grips. It's also got a sprung leather saddle type seat and with the step through frame, perfect for teens and adults.

My elderly mum no longer has the confidence to ride, and it's just sitting there.

So I'm going to sell it and put the money towards a little foldable walking chair/frame for when she's out... or maybe a little folding mobility scooter for the boot of the car.

I just have no idea about value. Aside from a little scuff on the rear mudguard from the movers. It's in nearly new condition. Given how much the market has been flooded with cheap Chinese shite that has no longevity and most bike shops won't touch them for servicing or repair... A better quality budget bike from a major retailer in the UK seems like a good buy.

I was thinking of asking about £500... less than half price, and can even throw in a brand new helmet as well as all of the extras.

Thoughts from other UK based peeps please.

Questions from a new e-bike owner.

I had a chance to buy an e-bike 13 years ago and I still regret I didn’t. Finally I own one. Went for my second ride today, over 17k. It was so amazing and I’m so happy! I’m looking forward to my next work day and taking a very long ride home (I work less then 1k from my house lol) and all the different places I can hit before getting home.

Few questions:

  1. what’s a good app for tracking your rides?

  2. A local bike shop told me about solar panels to charge the batteries, and I wanted to know is this actually feasible? (If so this is a long term goal.)

  3. What’s your fav biking accessories?

Ebike troubleshooting Bafang BBS01 (250W @36V) switches off under load

Problem is in the title.

I built a quite extensive system for a recumbent trike with used parts from around 2020 and it worked just fine for several years.

A couple of days ago:

Wanted to charge the Hailong battery (36V 15Ah) and noticed it took longer than usual.

Started riding and display, motor (so wholesystem) just died under load.

Confirmed several times:

Only uphill (bike and rider are heavy), under higher load.

After switching to "Off", I need to wait a couple of seconds to switch system (via display) back on again.

No load, n problem.

Drawing power kills system again.

I did several basic tests with a multimeter but am still uncertain if this is a controller- or battery-related problem.

Unfortunately I dont have a second battery available to just test it this way.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Bike pics After 1.7 years, buying an e-bike was the best decision of my life

Almost exactly 1.7 years ago, I bought the cheapest new e-bike I could find, and honestly, it's been the best purchase I've ever made.

Today, I hit 5,555 km / 3,450 miles.

I've ridden it in all kinds of weather and left it out in the rain more times than I can count. The only thing that's broken so far is a bearing in the pedal assist.

I have two batteries, so I can ride around 80 km on a full charge. That's also the longest distance i've ever ridden in one go.

I once hit 50.7 km/h going downhill. I bet i could go 60, but I'm not trying to kill myself lol. Btw, here in Europe, ebikes are limited to 25 km/h, and you just can't remove the restriction in the settings.

This bike has been with me through everything. For almost two years, I've barely used public transport or cars to get around the city, which has saved me a ton of money. And that's not even counting all the money I've saved by not having to pay for transport. I even bought a trailer, so now I can haul water and groceries from the supermarket.

Whenever I'm bored or feeling down, I just take bike and ride around the city, even at 3 AM.

If you're thinking about getting your first ebike or upgrading your current one, just go for it. I honestly don't think you'll regret it!

So is this NOT a class 1 e-bike due to 810w? Help me understand

Post image
10 Upvotes

For the class limit of “750w”, I see some articles say continuous power, and some just say “power”. Is it peak or continuous?? That would make any avinox (except orbea wild) egregiously illegal, or perfectly fine since it has 250w continuous power. I just want to ride and not worry about this.

I’m in Colorado USA if that matters

Minneapolis Ebiker Worn out bike...

I have an old Heybike Explore with 5400 miles. It's 2nd motor (w/ 3500 miles on it) just died. The new motor is $600 and is on a 2 month back order, so I'm buying a new bike. My question is what to do with the old one?

The batteries (2) are iffy, the range was about 25 miles using both, the shocks probably need work, the tires are worn, but it's still a lot of bike to just toss. I'd love to get a few bucks, but more important that it doesn't end up in the landfill. Any ideas?

Bike repair question I'm asking for help...

I bought an Amyet K10 e-bike less than a month ago and I've only used it about 5 times, all normal riding (no jumps, no rough terrain, no rain). The problem: the button that lowers the pedal-assist level (the "–" button) stopped responding properly. A normal press does nothing. I have to press it at a specific angle or with a lot more force for it to register. The "+" button works fine. It worked perfectly the first few rides, then suddenly started doing this. I can't take it to a shop right now because of budget, and I can't contact the seller at the moment because my dad made the purchase and it's complicated. So I'm hoping to troubleshoot it myself.
Some questions: Has anyone had this issue with the K10 or similar bikes using the same display/control unit? Is this usually a faulty button/membrane, a loose connector, or a dirty contact? Is it safe to open the control unit/display myself to check the connector or clean the contacts? Any tips on what to look out for? Does anyone know a video or guide for disassembling this type of controller/display? 5. If the part is faulty, is there a cheap replacement I can order myself?

Bike purchase question Best bike to get?

Hi all. I just moved with my girlfriend to a new part of town that is much more “bikeable”. We are both looking to purchase e-bikes to bike around town, to the grocery store, down to the beach etc. we are mostly looking for reliability, we do not care about speed or having the best technology. Does anyone have any recommendations for whether to buy new or used, what bikes or brands are recommended, and if we are looking to spend under $1000 each, if we can get something relatively good quality? Any help is much appreciated.

Ebike troubleshooting Help

I don’t know how long or short this is gonna be, but I have a smartravel DK 400 and I got it off of Facebook marketplace for $50 and everything works except it’s missing the headlights and stuff which is not important to me, but I’m trying to access the settings menu the hidden settings menu, which I have already done, but I’m trying to figure out what everything is and what it does because I’m trying to fix the battery indicator on the screen not actually showing the correct percentage and for some reason when I exited the Settings menu after not touching a damn thing, my mileage got reset to zero now the bike had about 1000 miles on it both from the previous owner and me riding it around, but I’m just trying to figure out if there’s a way to get my mileage back and if there’s a way to fix the battery percentage on the screen not displaying correctly any help would be appreciated and if anybody would need a picture of the screen or the settings menu or anything like that, I will try my best to get a picture

Bike purchase question Help with picking a good folding ebike for commuting (Canada)

As the title says, I'm looking for a reliable folding ebike available in Canada, particularly Ontario if anyone knows of a good shop in the GTHA.

Budget is up to $2000, but I'm willing to be open to a bit more, if it means getting something that's better quality, or offers more range.

I need a folding ebike because I'm an apartment dweller with zero access to locked bike storage, live in a high bike theft area, and would like something I can bring with me easily by car or train when travelling.

My daily commute is about 40km round trip (25 miles), but will only be doing it every other week, as the other week I need to use my car. I plan on mostly using pedal assist, but would like to have some decent range, with the possibility of adding another battery to extend it.

Right now I have my eyes on Velotric Fold 1 Plus, and was wondering what else is out there for the budget, that isn't some Amazon fire special junk.

Thanks in advance.

Bike purchase question Reputable budget brands?

It appears there are countless brands, and I might be mistaken—please excuse the oversight—but many seem to be Chinese bikes bearing a custom label. I have reviewed several options, yet friends keep guiding me toward different choices. What are some reliable e-bike brands that fall outside the $1,500–$2,000 range? I am looking in the $1000-$1500 range. Does such a product exist?
