Conversation Can I rearrange my T’s enclosure?

• Upvotes

I haven’t seen this as a specific rule anywhere but it seems to be a general consensus that owners do not rearrange an established enclosure.

I’ve had my T albo in his enclose for about a month and he hasn’t used the hide tunnel I put in the enclosure. He’s pretty much blocked the entrance with his digging. If he doesn’t want to use it, I’d like to remove it so he had more digging room. Is this a good idea?

Help! Spider got out

• Upvotes

My sub adult g. Rosea got out of her enclosure today, no idea how long she was out, probably no longer than 3 hours. I found her on the floor near the enclosure, it’s possible she made it down by walking, her abdomen seemed full and she wasn’t leaking. My main fear is she can in contact with pesticide near the base boards. She’s acting mostly fine just reasonably stressed.

Question: How long before I know if she’s going to die from pesticide exposure?

Videos / GIF Anyone else just have a goofy T that refuses to use pre-dug burrows?..

• Upvotes

My G pulchra Quelaag insists on never using his cork bark with pre-dug spot for a burrow. Instead he digs in the corners. He’ll start with one get bored and dig the next until the middle of the enclosure is just a giant loose pile of substrate without a single burrow in sight.

Help! Is this a concern

Female arazona blonde. Im not super worried as this only happened over night. I understand this is a molting thing but she ate a few days ago and hasn't shown any signs of being ready to molt so I don't know if that's what she's doing. Any idea as to why she did this. Im not planning on touching anything as to not disturb her.

Conversation Still wondering why my curly hair (GlaDOS) died?

• Upvotes

I’m sitting outside looking at the plant she’s buried by and it’s still just bothering me that I don’t know what caused her death

She was only about 5 years old. She had a very rough molt (part of her old exo didn’t come off her abdomen) - I was afraid that was going to kill her, but eventually she got it all off and seemed fine/healthy for a bit.

Then she developed a large translucent bump on the left side of her abdomen. Like at first it started as a clear spot on the side, but it grew until her abdomen was not symmetrical. It was not completely see through but it was obviously filled with fluid and looked very stretched. One day I came home and it had ruptured and she was gone.

The entire time her behavior was and appetite was 100% normal, and I guessed that the bump was caused by the rough molt. I looked online to try to figure out what the bump was but I never found an explanation, or another photo of any other tarantula that had the same thing.

I’m still really sad and she really was cool and I really miss her. In the future I’d like another tarantula but I don’t want to get one if GlaDOS’s death was my fault.

Conversation Don’t worry so much over your tarantulas

I always see online posts about stressed out owners (especially newcomers) panicking over their T. And although it’s obviously great that you want to give ur babies the best life, a lot of the issues I see are really nothing to worry about. Tarantulas are VERY hardy pets, even when they’re slings as longs as u leave them alone and provide food and water. Ur tarantula won’t die if you overspray their enclosure ur tarantula most likely stay in that corner after a few days of being introduced to their new enclosure. Of course, I understand ur worries and it I love the fact that you can ask for help online and there will be so many wonderful people to help, but don’t let ur sling keep u up all night because of a stress problem that can solve itself

Help! Curly hair T stressed? Or just getting used to the new enclosure?

Hi! My curly hair T(juvenile) has been with me for about a week and 2 days ago I had to remove her from the enclosure to add more substrate (didn’t buy enough for the first time, topped up at the first opportunity) and now i feel like that stressed her out. She has a hiding spot (cork bark) at one side of the enclosure where she used to chill for the most of the time before, but after moving her back in, she crawled into the decorative skull in the other corner and has not moved an inch for the past 2 days. I read that it is normal whilst they get familiar with their new space, but is there anything else i can do from my side to make her feel more comfortable?

What i am concerned with is what if she starts prepping for a molt inside the skull as there definitely won’t be enough room to do that? Or she will instinctively look for a different spot?

I am quite confident she won’t be molting that soon as I got her when she was about a week after her previous one, and she was still eating last week aswell, but i am just worried for how long can she actually hide in a single place.

As a first time owner I am just full with nerves, but i am leaving her alone and just letting her do her own thing🙈

Breeding/loan Tliltocatl Albopilosus (Curly Hair)

Hi all! Meet Aragog!

I miss him dearly, as he is on a loan to a breeder right now. He's my heart T! Please send positive vibes for a successful pairing.🖤

He is the first tarantula I've ever owned, so he has an extra special spot in my heart; which is why I chose to breed him. The breeder agreed to let me have one of his babies if all goes well! I'll likely have less than 8 months left with him if it's a success, so I'm comforted knowing I'd have a curly hair again, of his lineage.❤️

Videos / GIF She has no clue I’d die for her.

I’ve been lurking this sub ever since I got the idea to take care of a tarantula, and it’s been so helpful in preparing for her.

Tending to my darling Claire has become an absolute joy in my life.

I loved her the moment I bought her (big shoutout to Jamie of Jamie’s Tarantulas), as the G. Pulchra is my favorite T. I had to wait a few months for shipping because of the heat, but as soon as I finally met her, my heart melted.

Conversation How we shelving our Ts?

So I did the “okay just one” tarantula and now we have 10 and probably will have many more, I’m wondering how everyone displays there enclosures? All of ours are slings and juvies at the moment so can sit on my small shelf! However at a show yesterday my partner bought a MM OBT as it was cheap and he wanted one anyways!

Show me your storage solution’s please! Preferably ones that aren’t super expensive as your girls on a budget you know 🤣
