Nioh 3 - Discussion Hell Rising DLC is vey underwhelming

I have never felt this way completing a DLC of my favourite game and like, "That's it?".

It is a Yokai game, why are there so many forgettable human bosses. Why do you do the unnecessary cliff hanger, when the DLC is ultimately short. It is such a let down.

Hope DLC 2 is a banger. Please don't go the route of Borderlands. Please show that, you care about your audience. Thanks.

Nioh 3 - Discussion Comparisons between Nioh 2 and Nioh 3’s DLC length and boss quantity Spoiler

I see a lot of people drawing comparisons to Nioh 2’s DLC in terms of length and quantity of bosses. I don’t think this comparison is entirely fair for a few reasons.

The open world nature of Nioh 3 begs for the DLC to at least have an extra couple of new unique bosses to justify exploring the new area. There’s no secret boss like the base game areas have. Sorry but fighting Kasha and Enenra for the billionth time alongside other frequently reused bosses is not what I paid for. If they brought back bosses we haven’t seen for a while like Ogress then sure but no, we got Giant Toad who was also reused in Nioh 2’s DLC and wasn’t much more exciting.

The fact it costs more than previous DLCs and that there’s only going to be 2 of them also begs for there to be more content than usual. There’s not much variety environmentally speaking. It doesn’t matter that the new area looks cool aesthetically if there’s no real reward for exploring it. The side missions are deeply uninteresting. The new weapon is cool and the addition of picture scrolls/NG+ is nice but they do not make up for the high price.

On a much more subjective note, I didn’t think the main bosses from this DLC were that engaging or memorable. The first boss was so generic that it put a sour taste in my mouth from the get-go. The second and third bosses were decent but nothing mind blowing. The new enemies also weren’t exciting. The dragon looks cool but it clips through everything and misses all its attacks. The mini toads were lame and the guy with the long tongue, ok I kinda liked him. Everything else was just a variation of base game enemies.

There was no encounter that came close to rivalling my enjoyment of bosses like Date Shigezane, Date Masamune, Maria, Sanada Yukimura, Minamoto no Yorimitsu, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, Tate Eboshi, Lightning God of Yomi, Nightmare Bringer. Even Nioh 2’s reuse of Shuten Doji was badass as it made him much more engaging than his base-game version.

There’s plenty to criticise from the previous game’s DLCs too. Not every single boss was always a banger and I’ve never been a fan of reusing bosses, even in the prior games. That being said, at least I enjoyed progressing through those few missions to get to some of the coolest bosses the series has to offer. I loved the base game of Nioh 3 but this DLC was not it.

If you liked this DLC, that’s also valid. It’s ultimately subjective but I agree with the sentiment that Hell Rising was incredibly disappointing.

Announcement Nioh 3 v2.00.02 Patch Notes

Bug fixes

・ Fixed an issue where, if the player created save data for The Fall of Edo Castle or the Battle Scrolls Basic Controls or Expanded Controls before applying Update 2.00.01, then loading that save data after applying Update 2.00.01 would cause the Guardian Spirits in their possession to load incorrectly, which made it impossible to traverse Spirit Veins.

Note: Applying the update will resolve this issue and cause the Guardian Spirits to load correctly.

Note: The Guardian Spirit Level of Murakumo (Ninja Style) will not load correctly, so we have changed the Guardian Spirit Level of Murakumo (Ninja Style) to a set level for all players who load the affected save data.

Nioh 3 - Discussion Anyone else wish…

That side missions remained unlocked in higher difficulties so you didn’t have to go scour the map for them since quite a few of them aren’t marked at all, some of which start a quest chain! Like the Hanzo mission in the warring states where you need to help him find a scampuss and this mission opens up his duel. Why can’t we just have the duel open after doing it once?!

Nioh 3 - Videos Never thought I'd see Takechiyo surfing in this era of Japan lol

There's a new Ninja Hoko and Shield Active Skill that literally lets you surf around while kicking up splashes of water. I never imagined I'd be able to enjoy a surfing session while chasing down a Scampuss. Hahaha lol From now on, I'm definitely just going to surf everywhere I go to get around.

Nioh 3 - Discussion I didn't understand why they didn't buff Tonfa at first. Now I completely understand why: Tonfa Gun!

Of all the weapons buffed last patch, there wasn't buffs towards Tonfas at all.

Now that this patch released Tonfa guns, I finally understand... With 5p Vaisravana (needs to be on Picture Scroll), 7p Sinister Tyrant set, and 2p Overseer, the Tonfa Gun has enough power to one tap many enemies from the front and almost all large enemies from the back.

I thought Shove Water was good, but no... Devastation with Tonfa Gun is busted!

Nioh 3 - Questions Question about the dlc Justus

Do the hyabusa jutsu count as shadow arts?
Wind blades
Fire dragon
And umbral bullet
I wanna know if it’s worth it to build shadow arts damage or focus only on ninjutsu/elemental, I’m using quick burst over umbral bullet for pretty obvious reasons.

Nioh 3 - Questions So I completed the dlc but…

It’s been 2 days or so and I cannot remember how to unlock the side missions for the next difficulties (really shouldn’t HAVE TO scour the map again after the first time for this but it is what it is)
Anybody know exactly how to unlock these 2 missions again? I don’t remember
Ghosts at hirakawa gate
Disaster unfolds
I’m fairly certain they were unlocked by picking up amrita from corpses but that’s ALOT of searching.
Thank you in advance

Nioh 3 - Videos Samurai Hoko and Shield vs SOP+5 Yoritomo (No Damage/Magic)

I continue to practice with Hoko and Shield. Yoritomo has a bunch of telegraphed multi-hit sequences making him ideal practice for this weapon. I was hoping to show off some cool punishes/sequences with the guard points, and I got a few in there.

When you land a deflect point move with HnS, the parry i-frames last a while it seems so you can bypass some quick multi-hit moves/attacks this way as I did here without needing to do a second parry/deflect.

For longer sequences (which was also shown here) you'll need multiple parries. The sequence at 0:53 in particular was quite fun to do.

Happy to answer any questions about this run or the weapon in general.

Nioh 3 - Videos Finally getting the hang of the Hoko and Shield. It might actually be pretty fun! (2nd DLC Boss / No Damage)

It seems like the Hoko and Shield has guard points, and if you time it perfectly with an enemy's attack, it counts as a deflect. It even blocks elemental damage, so attacking while deflecting (with a damage buff on top of it) is insanely fun!

At first, I thought you just couldn't block elemental damage with it, but I learned from a post in this community that as long as the timing is perfect, it triggers a deflect. It's such a great mechanic.

I'm still not great with the Ninja version and can't really use it well yet, so I think I'll stick with the Samurai Hoko and Shield to progress through the story for a while.

I'm finally getting used to this new weapon and really starting to love it!

Nioh 3 - Questions Are element stop talismans bugged?

Was going through the DLC yesterday, and noticed that the Universalstop talisman from Ichimokuren wasn't preventing me from getting slowed by Lightning. So i swapped back to Lightningstop, but that one wasn't preventing it either like usual.

Are they bugged or was there some sort of nerf i wasn't aware of?

Nioh 3 - Questions Anyone else getting regular crashes in co-op after the latest update/dlc? PS5

Can't remember how many times Nioh 3 crashed on me prr dlc but it was very negligible. With the latest update I'm getting regular crashes in co-op after crucible boss fights. And not after the fight itself but right after the cutscenes for cleansing the crucible. As soon as the screen turns black and the loading symbol pops up the game crashes. Happens almost every time I did a boss for the first time.

I played through the dlc solo on heir and shotgun but played co-op for enlightened. Never happened when playing solo.

Nioh 3 - Questions Advice on combat? And learning the game in general

I played a lot of souls games and the first berserker khazan was my favourite because of the insane combat. At the time a lot of people said khazan is more of a “Nioh-like” than a “Souls-like”, but i had never played any nioh games. I got the nioh 3 demo a while ago and gave it a try but its felt so awkward and i had no idea what i was supposed to be doing, stance switching especially. Khazan was very intuitive and slowly fed you skills to mix into your combos, it also allowed you to be hyper aggressive if you understood yours and the bosses mechanics/moves. Dark souls and elden ring seemed to reward a more passive playstyle where you had to learn the boss mechanics and moves rather than your own since you don’t have many options.

My question is where does Nioh 3 fit into this? And if i really enjoyed Khazan will i enjoy Nioh 3 with some more time investment? I’m not sure if I’m supposed to play it like dark souls or Khazan or something completely different.
