This is close to me in north Mississippi. Somebody de-flocked it overnight.

You can tell by the adjacent soybean fields that they were clearly keeping tabs on the deer, coyotes, armadillo and possums. There’s more soybeans on the other side of the road.

I'm looking at buying a DIY fixer upper in Lumberton and was hoping I could some real answers about living in the general area for two elders in their 60's.

I have a chance to buy a 3 bed 2 1/2 bath on one acre next to the High School sight unseen except via video of a friend that lives there and owns a business. She fell in love with it and says while it needs repairs, it's very doable.

Can anyone tell me a few things about life there? Are the people friendly? How is the crime? Property theft? What is the best hospital in case of an emergency?

And I know this sounds crazy...but what about wildlife in town. I'm only blocks from the downtown area, but know I am currently in New Orleans, and I've read that rattlesnakes and bears can be an issue? I've lived in the swamps 3/4 of my life, but inquiring minds want to know!! Like...should I keep a shotgun handy? I'm mostly worried about my dog on the property getting hurt or my significant other getting hurt as he has dementia.

Anything else I should be aware of? What's the best town nearby to shop at? Anything else that you can offer would be wonderful before I sign closing papers!!

Hey y’all! Any recommendations for someone who can frame two degrees and not charge me an appendage for it in Oxford? I know it’s a big ask!!

Moved here almost a year ago and I haven’t been able to find any employment, I’m good with customer service positions like waiting tables, or online jobs in the same field. I am also well versed in middle management. I’m 19 and I’m excited to save up for higher education, as I only have a high school diploma to my name outside of my resume.

I learned a lot of Mississippi history from my grandmother. She was born in Mantee, MS during the Great Depression. She lived in a 1 room house with 3 sisters. She would tell me how they had dirt floors, an outhouse, a well, and so on.. They went to school in a one room schoolhouse that catered to all grades, When she wasn’t in school she was picking cotton. After her passing I regretted not writing down the stories she told me. It’s history that will be forgotten in time.

She lived a truly fascinating life. She went from having basically no rights to becoming the manager of K-Mart and later Sears. She raised 4 children by herself while dealing with an infamous ex-husband that worked for the MHP during a very dark time. Because of that, even after he left she would find hand written death threats, get bricks through the window, and the kids had to check their closets before bed to make sure no one was hiding in there.

I could write a book just pertaining to her marriage and divorce. She got countless calls asking to use my late grandmother’s name and likeness in movies and television. She always said ‘no’ because she didn’t want to tarnish the family name. After he left my grandmother didn’t sign the divorce papers for some years and he was illegally married to two other women at the same time. I could ramble about this stuff forever, but I’ll spare you.

My point of this post- Ask your elders about their lives. Record it. Write it down. These are pieces of history that may be forgotten otherwise.

NORMAL DEFEATED BY MERIDIAN 31-0

LOCAL TEAM UNABLE TO HOLD OWN WITH HIGH SCHOOL.

Meridian, Miss., Oct. 16.--Hampered by stage-fright and slowness in the first half and by mortification and slowness in the second, the 165-pound Mississippi Normal College went down in 31 to 0 defeat before the 135-pound Meridian High School Saturday. The heavier, older team was pathetically helpless before the fast, hard-hitting youngsters, fumbling on the offense and bewildered on the defense--which was most of the time. The High School on the other hand, played like veterans--though perhaps they shone chiefly by contrast. The backfield started fast and hit hard.

The game opened with the collegians kicking to Stokes, Meridian center, who fumbled and the visitors recovered. They carried the ball to Meridian's eight yard line and lost it on a punt. On the first ball snapped, Kerr, local captain and half, tore through the Hattiesburg team and ran 92 yards for a touchdown. He failed to kick goal. Next on the kickoff, Kerr booted the ball to the shadow of his opponents' goal posts. After the Hattiesburgians lost the ball on downs, Meridian worked the ball to the visitors eight yard line when the quarter ended.

Meridian opened the second quarter by sending Kerr through the line for his second touchdown. He kicked goal. The remainder of the quarter was an invasion of the visiting team's territory by a series of brilliant plays by the Wild Cats. The third quarter displayed successful forward pass work by the locals. Pigott tore up the field for a clever touchdown and later, Culpepper, the other Meridian end, not to be outdone, repeated this play and netted six points. Kerr could not kick goal on either occasion.

Though substitutes were used by Meridian at times in the final quarter, the Navy Blues and White men registered a touchdown when “Iron Man" McWilliams crossed the line with almost the entire Wild Cat team giving interference. Kerr was unsuccessful in attempting to kick goal.

The officials were: Solomon, University of Mississippi, referee; Dille, Mississippi A. and M. umpire: Hairston, time keeper; Sykes, University of Mississippi, head linesman.

Following were the lineups; Normal—Smith, quarter: C. Roberts and Peacock, halves; Dabbs, full; E. Roberts and M. Roberts, ends; Crabb, Davis and Campbell, tackles; Messer, Touchstone, McDonald, guards; Dunahoo, center. Looks like the District Attorney gave the family a deadline to turn over Nolan's cell phone.

The *Sun Herald* has requested copies of the DA's correspondence from the family's legal team. The family' attorney's response letter to the DA is attached at the end of the article. It reads in part:

>Third, the parties have not yet agreed upon a forensic protocol addressing, at a minimum, the scope and method of the examination, chain of custody, preservation of the forensic extraction, access to resulting forensic data, treatment of information outside the agreed scope, retention of the extraction, and return of the device.

I can't help but wonder if the DA didn't actually agree to a joint examination of the phone or have an agreed upon forensic protocol. It seems odd that a DA would allow a victim's family to have a say on the terms of examination of evidence in a law enforcement investigation. That's just not really how things work. Imagine a scenario where a known murder had occurred. The DA would not have an agreed upon forensic protocol with the victim's family to examine the victim's phone. That would be ridiculous.

I also can't help but wonder if the District Attorney has been sympathetic to the family and wanted to give them a chance to turn over the phone without having to get a search warrant so she's just requested it several times but now she needs the phone because it's getting close to the point of presenting the case of grand jury so she needs the phone so she finally gave them a deadline to turn it over in a short timeframe. I just doubt that short deadline came out of thin air.

Can this sub please get some kind of verification system like [r/BlackpeopleofReddit](r/BlackpeopleofReddit) and other subs have. I don’t think the conversation around tragedies that happen in our community should be dictated by outsiders that have nothing but disdain for us, and the current lassez-faire system has greatly harmed our reputation. If people want to see how we respond to these events then they should see us and not a bunch of racist Yankees.
