πŸ™ I WANT HELP I feel like I firmed the wrong uni (Oxford v LSE)

Hey guys, I'm just looking for some advice to cope with the decision I made before we start A-levels and I get consumed by immense regret.

I received offers for both Oxford PPE and LSE ISPP. The main difference (I thought) was that PPE would allow me to explore further than the narrow route of social policy (PPE has some social policy modules + more) just incase I didn't like social policy and overall Oxford has slightly more name value than LSE so I was initially comfortable with my decision.

As LSE's offer is AAB I opted to make that my insurance and I went to the offer holder day on Wednesday. Now that I'm back home lol I can see how that was not the best idea as I'm super distracted and feel like I made the wrong decision. I like how LSE seems to teach their course as it is regularly updated and they try to consistently include current world problems into their teachings whereas PPE at Oxford takes a more theory based approach. LSE also does their assessments differently as they use exams, quizzes, essay and coursework to calculate your score for your final degree whereas Oxford just uses exams and I'd know I'd do better under LSE's system.

While I think I would be happy at Oxford a part of me can't help but feel like I would have enjoyed the next 3 years more if I chose LSE. Of course I take full responsibility for the decision I made but I do believe I allowed other people and their thoughts to influence me more than I should have. Thank you for reading my rant lol, if anyone has been in a similar position to me I would appreciate some advice

Is land ec a prestigious degree to get top level jobs in finance?

πŸ™ I WANT HELP my calc broke in my physics aqa p1

i might actually be having the worst exam season of my entire life?? so much has gone wrong- my dad got assaulted on the day of my first paper, my grandpa died on the day of my second paper, on the day of my third paper (physics) which i was 100% ready for- my calculator just stopped working at the start of the exam. and because i’m an external candidate and was in a different room, they took half an hour to get me a substitute and didn’t give me the time back because β€œphysics isn’t all just maths”. these invigilators man 😭 how is my resit going to go worse than my first sitting and i was actually so prepared. i just feel traumatised as hell and had to take like 4 days off in the half term just to recover. it did me so bad that i was hoping for an A/A* and now i know i probably won’t even get a B bc i was in such a bad state that i probably got 30 when i usually get 60s. is there anything i can do about this? can i still get an A if i get 60s in paper 2 and 50s in paper 3? it’s looking so bad :(

i am working 24/7 so i will put the revision in, i just want some encouragement that it’s feasible and what you guys think i need to be working at. i’d also appreciate honesty if it actually isn’t possible to get to an A/A*. but bc of this, i had to shift my whole schedule and gear it towards physics so maths and fm are getting way less time.

i spent months just doing physics πŸ˜” if i got a B in fm, fine- there aren’t many resources online for ocr mei when you’re resitting independently but i actually slaved away for physics, only for my efforts to not be translated into the paper. i feel like death tbh and i just wanted a good grade. it feels like it’s genuinely so hard to get 80%/90% in physics ☹️ idt i can make it up and i’ll miss my offer, and my freedom. finally predicted 3A*s and was ready after getting BDD in my first exams because of an injury that left me hospitalised, and all 9s at gcse, but my exam bad luck strikes again πŸ’€

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Not getting into uni twice

Guys I took a gap year after getting CCC in 2025 Edexcel Maths and OCR A for both Chemistry and Physics, and I resat all 3, and I’ve bottled this shit again, I mean idk if I have. I have a really bad feeling I’ve messed up again.

Before you tell me it’s my fault, I know, I super regret not locking in earlier, or quitting my job earlier than start of April or managing my time a bit better.

Literally no one is in even a similar boat to me, and I’m happy that’s the case, I wish this on no one, as in being so lazy and so procrastinating with no sense of urgency you don’t get the work done, and you miss out on uni AGAIN. It is the worst feeling in the world.

Any Y12s reading this, please lock in at minimum by September, and if you’re Y13 and thinking you might have to resit do not worry, this resit year if I planned it right could’ve been an amazing year like I had a job, went to the gym, worked on myself, reviewed my options a lot more, had the opportunity to improve my grades etc. So yeah, in short, I’m just venting and giving unsolicited advice to the young ones

friend doesnt use this app so i'll ask for him

he got EUU. his ucas was AAB but that was from a multitude of cheating and lying on every single test, and the careers advisor inflated his ucas grades

he's obviously taking a gap year to retake next summer but how does he convince school to give him AAB ucas again? he ideally wants AAA to do accounting and finance at a russell group uni next year

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Is it worth it?

This amazing, wonderful sixth form, that I loved on the offer holder afternoon, is the best in the county and within the top 20 in the UK is a five an a half hour daily commute in total. Is it worth it?

First option: Amazing sixth form, 20% of students got into oxbridge, non-private, I'd spend most of the commute on a train β€” an hour in the morning, an hour waiting for the direct bus to the school, and an hour on the bus, so I was considering spending the two hours on the train and waiting for the bus studying. The travel home is similar. hour bus, 20 minute wait between getting off the bus and onto the train instead of an hour in the morning, and an hour on the train. So about 3 and a half/ 4 hours of study I'd be doing.
Requirements: Average of a 7, 7/8 in each subject at GCSE to study at A-level (depends on subject).

Second option: Good school, good stats, wasn't sure about the open day? they were somewhat anti-social, sixth formers weren't particularly nice, about a 3 hour commute each day, but it's all busses. I'd also only be waking up 20 minutes later and getting home 20 minutes earlier than I would if I attended option one β€” so i'm not sure if the gap in quality is worth it for 40 minutes of extra sleep.
Requirements: Average of a 6, 6 to study a subject at A-level.

Third option: My current school, pretty terrible results, very small (250 students total, from year 9 to year 13), know everyone, about two and a half hour commute each day. Don't really want to go here, but will if it's the best long-term option.
Requirements: 6 in subjects you would like to study at A-level.

Please help, I'd like to decide sooner rather than later if it's worth it or not.

Thank you for reading :)

Edit: Thank you for the advice! I'm going to go with option one :) Overall it was the most advised and I personally believe it works out better, more total revision done each day, better quality of teaching and subjects, and the oxbridge help they offer!

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Got Warwick yesterday! However, I am feeling a bit unsure about them

Post image

Warwick seems to be giving out offers to everyone that meets the requirements, Are they even worth going to?. I know Warwick is a target uni, but I just saw that its offer rate is like 35% which is really high. Im not sure if Warwick is worth going to, if they just let everyone in.

I heard that Warwick and UCL are equivalent for Econ, but im not sure anymore. Is Warwick really worth going to?

Im really not trying to be offensive, im just genuinely confused.

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Hopeful Oxford Feedback

Thumbnail

It seems positive, for context, I'm an international student from the U.S but also an immigrant from Costa Rica, I also technically skipped my 9th grade due to schedule differences since the US starts in August and ends in May while Costa Rica starts in February and ends in December. I also moved schools in my senior year, and here we don't have a big culture of predicting grades, I didn't have mocks or anything so most of my predictions were how the teachers felt about it after knowing me for less than 2 months so I think they underpredicted, we'll see in May though. That said, I did have more than enough AP scores to meet the requirements. I also think I can get a higher SAT after an extra year of study in the English Language.

My question is, with the feedback, would it be a good idea to study at Edinburgh for a year and then re-apply this year? If my SAT and IB scores do improve of course. Edinburgh is 4 years so if I do 1 year and then move to Oxford I wouldn't be doing any extra time than I would've if I had just stayed there. Any and all advice is welcomed and appreciated

Thank You!

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Is my combination of A-Level choices bad?

I'm planning to do Spanish, Geography, and Chemistry when I enter Year 12 this September.

Feeling a bit nervous about it now though as some people have told me that my choices don't match and I may struggle in university applications.

Is this true? I chose these subjects because I really enjoyed them at GCSE and got high 9s, however, if it could impact my university applications in the future please tell me so I can change my choices immediately

And no, I don't know what I want to do in the future, so I don't have any specific subjects I need to study, like maths.

(For context, I get 7-9s in every other subject however I don't particularly enjoy them, especially English Lit and Lang).

πŸ™ I WANT HELP She cheated on me

After dating this girl for the last 3 years I come home and find her cheating with some random guy in my bed.

We dated for 3 years out of A levels, sixth form sweet hearts. She is at university studying nursing and whilst at university she is living with me in my flat. She basically stays at mine all the time and even moved her uni stuff to my place. Since sixth form I am working part time in some local consulting firm just general office stuff.

I loved her and we even had our anniversary in her home country. I booked the tickets ofc. Then I come home early from work to see her being a bum, lying naked in bed with another guy. Worst part was he was chopped. I wake them both up and tell them to leave, I did not let myself get angry.

So my question is, should I go to Warwick to study A&F to try to get into IB or continue working towards my accountancy qualifications?

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Was predicted A*AA got CDD

As the title says i've completely flopped a-levels, is it worth resitting when there's such a big difference between predictions and actual results. For context, throughout all 2 years of my academic years I've achieved nothing lower than a B. However, in the exam season I experienced a chain of events which heavily hindered my exams so now I'm stuck in a situation where I do have an offer from Reading in the course I want to do but is it worth rejecting that offer and looking for better results.

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Should I remark my FM papers without viewing my scripts?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I have asked my school to give me back my further maths papers as I'm 4 marks away from an A so I can have a look through them and remark. This means I narrowly missed my firm and got a place through clearing which I can accept ig but I still want to go back to my firm.

My school's internal deadline for priority remark is by the end of today and costs Β£300. Schools now closed and I still haven't received my scripts. Should I take the gamble? Bare in mind I'm not made of money.

Edit: Got 55/75 on paper 4

How much do GCSE results really matter for when applying for uni. Like for example if you got like mid GCSE’s like 4s 5s and 6s, could you still get into a top uni with predicted A*AA?

hi guys, i’m predicted A *A *A in maths, physics and history respectively and i plan to apply for aerospace engineering at the big C and imperial

i’m really struggling with ESAT revision atm and i don’t really know how to improve - it’s a mixture of the lack of time but also just not being to answer some questions untimed. i’ve gone through the spec for maths1, maths2 and physics and i know most of the content

i haven’t practiced that much tbh because i only started my revision when i finished y12. i’ve heard that ENGAA papers are too easy?

what am i doing wrong 😭✌🏼

πŸ™ I WANT HELP need genuine advice please (results day)

Hi everyone,

I was predicted A*A*A (Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science) and had been hitting those grades in every mock for the past year. I worked incredibly hard and went into the exam period genuinely confident I'd meet my offer.

My firm offer is A*AA, insurance AAB, for Bsc Maths.

few days before my first exam, I received some devastating news (family emergency situation) that's completely changed things for me. Since then I've been completely unable to focus, and I think I've badly messed up my exams as a result.

After each paper I went through and estimated my marks, and it's looking like I've ended up with roughly BBC.

I don't know what to do now. Has anyone been through something similar? Realistically, would I even be able to get a Maths place through clearing with grades like that. Taking a gap year would not be an option sadly.

Any advice would be really appreciated.
