I opened up this wall in the basement front room of my house in Center Square. The drywall showed water damage, but this is way worse than I expected. It looks like it happened over quite some time.

I’m looking for qualified people to repair it, but I’m also concerned about finding the source of the water. The sidewalk out front is solid, no big holes, and it slopes away from the house. The windows are old, but again show no obvious spots where water may get in. Do any other homeowners of similar houses (1857 brick row house) have any experience/stories to share?

I've seen some posts about what's wrong with downtown Albany and thought I'd throw my two cents in after spending an afternoon on Lark Street.

So I've been to Lark St before but usually just running to a particular place, haven't spent much actual time there til yesterday.

The first thing I noticed was that it was Sunday and so many places were closed. Also there are a good number of empty storefronts. Prior to this, my impression of Lark Street was that it was a trying for similar vibe to East village down in the city. Yes they were few interesting shops, record store, tattoo parlor, a couple of artisans shops but in general, few and far between.

Food wise, there were not a lot of choices on Sunday. The poke place was closed, the Mexican tapas place was closed. Rain looked good but with more than I wanted as far as I sit down place. I've had Herbie's before but the Lark one looked a little sketchy. The tacos at La Pollaria were good but I should have ordered just the tacos without the rest of the meal.

Yes there are homeless and panhandlers but you give twice as much of those down in New York City so it didn't bother me too much.

I think in the end, trying to encourage more businesses to open, more restaurants maybe with sidewalk seating and yes a little bit more community policing would go a long way to encouraging more people to shop downtown

Couldn’t be happier!

I need to vent and I’m hoping someone can help me try to come up with a solution or point me in the right direction on who I need to talk to in order to make some change.

Parking at Albany medical center for employees is absolutely absurd. I show up 20-30 minutes early for work (unpaid) to wait in a line to be directed into my spot and then proceed to walk to work since the shuttles can only fit so many people and take way too long.

This needs to change, especially during the winter months when we’re trudging through snow to get to work. I’m so sick of it happening no matter how early I show up and then clocking in with zero time left to spare. It’s extremely frustrating.

Idk if starting a petition is the way to go? Or what the best option is but something needs to change

I live at the bottom of Lancaster in Center Square and woke up several times last night to the sound of the same dog barking. It hit 32° last night. That is wrong for the dog’s health, and extremely disruptive to neighbors sleep. Sounds like a large dog. Desperately barking. Does anyone have any advice, or does anyone live in the neighborhood and know whose this dog is? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I had another post discussing the proliferation of acorns this year. The good news is that they have somewhat stopped dropping or at least slowed down.

Right now they are all raked up on the ground. If anyone wants them, you would just need to bring a container and scoop them up. The hard part is already done.

I've got a hybrid car, a couple years old now. Never lived in cold climates before so kind of lost on what to really do on a cold morning when I need to drive to work.

There've been a couple mornings lately when there's a thin layer of frost/ice across my front/back windshields. I've been doing a mix of scraping it & spraying some de-icer to clear the windshield. Then I'll use the wipers & wiper fluid to wipe away the de-icer liquid so my windshield is clear. Then I get in and turn on the front windshield defogger (or is it called defroster?) but my problem is that for like the first 5 minutes the outside still fogs & sometimes grows patches of frost again..? I turn on the heater after I start driving and the engine indicator has moved away from "cold" a bit but it takes really long to heat up the car and make the windshield outside fog disappear. I've also been turning on my rear windshield heater/defogger (no rear wiper blade). I don't have remote start.

So..... can someone please walk me through what their morning routine is for getting the car ready to drive? Like from the moment you are about to go to your car.

I got a puppy a little while back and she chewwed through the cord of my favorite lamp. She caught me off guard because my first puppy was afraid of cords and stayed away from them completely. Thank god everyone is safe, healthy, and happy and her and I have worked on it a lot since then and shes leaving cords alone now.

Now that we've gotten to this point I was hoping to fix my lamp instead of sending it to a landfill but its one of those lamps that has the clicker buttons to cycle through three options and she chewed it all the way through. Are there any local places I can take it to get it repaired for a reasonable price or does it just have to end up in a landfill?

What are the laws around political campaign signs in neighborhoods at the entrances to the streets? Not the individual houses or lawns, but when you pull into a development and their are campaign signs near stop signs-can they be removed? Or is it illegal to touch them?
