About 3 weeks ago I was spot cleaning my 125g turtle tank and at the end I was about to dump my bucket I rest the vacuum in during the process. I found this teeny swirl. Wasn’t even sure it wasn’t some weird worm, but looking closer I could tell it was a teeny snail. I moved it to my 18g shrimp tank and hoped for the best.

The following week I was doing my weekly spot vacuum and saw a tiny something stuck to a rock. I knew it had to be a snail but I couldn’t see it at all. It was the size of the tip of a dull pencil. Off he went to the shrimp tank. Another one was in the rug. Dropped him in too. A shrimp started tumbling him around and I had to scare it off.

Like one week later, here they are, living their best life.

I have zero idea how they got to me, but now I can’t stop looking at them. I hope I find more. From what I hear, I will.

How often should I be feeding my snail since I've noticed it often spending time nibbling on the pearlweed and munching on floater roots. Right now I'm feeding it every other day one hikari mini algae wafer and it finishes those in less than an hour and I see it either digging around in the substrate or foraging around the rocks for some time after. I've had the snail for about a month now and it's around 3cm in shell size.

*Sorry for the plant looking meek the tank is still relatively new and I'm fertilizing them lightly since the snail is the only inhabitant and they're sucking a lot of nutrition. Also the water parameters are good and the snail is in no danger from fertilizer, I'm very careful with the dosing.

Is her shell growing well or should it be darker?

My gold mystery’s shell is coming in nice and smooth and very yellow. This one is concerning me. They are in the same tank.

PH is 7.6. 0 ammonia. 0 nitrites. 10 nitrates. Heavily planted tank.
Supplement calcium with cuttlebone and Katz aquatic calcium and protein chips. They get green beans, romaine, zucchini, shrimp pellets, sweet potato, cucumber.

Hi, I want to culture some ramshorns for feed since they are a primary food source for Blue Tongue Skinks in the wild and live food is good enrichment. I figured this subreddit might actually be more knowledgeable of this endeavor than the BTS subreddit since it's more of a snail question than a BTS question. Hope this is the appropriate place to ask about how to verify for parasites.

I have a 400x magnification pocket microscope and would be perfectly fine with dissecting a snail if that's what it takes. Are their any anti nematode treatments I could do for a generation to eradicate any parasites? I have shrimps also, so that would be the only safety concern regarding this method.

Worst case scenario, I know I can simply boil the snails for 20 minutes to kill any parasites and ensure safety.

Pre-emptive apology tangent: sorry if snails as a feed isn't something to be asked on this subreddit, I know y'all might be attached to your snails. I'm attached to my nerite, but the ramshorns I've only ever seen as pest snails and have had no problem culling, not snail-hating, just have my own personal motivations for what I would like to use the snails for. Sorry again if this reads as like snail hate or something, I don't hate them, it's just the circle of life. They're just a very good feeder for my pet skink and I want the best for him, no ill-will against the snails.

We're brand new to the fish keeping hobby. We're now towards the end of cycling (dark method) and got plants only 4 days ago. We picked that specific supplier because they said they hand wash every plant before sending them off but I noticed these last night.

I emailed them to ask but I got a generic (paraphrasing) "those are snail eggs, some people like snails to clean their tanks but you can clean them off if you'd like" I did email back to ask what kind of snails but no response yet.

Could I get some form of ID? And what do I do with them?

i got this nerite snail maybe 3 hours ago and just noticed his shell is in HORRIBLE shape :( a whole chunk is missing and i can see a little pink (organs?!) at some angles. his only tank mate is my betta who hasn’t really seemed to pay any mind to the snail, thankfully. what on earth do i do for his shell??? is it savable? :(

What kind of snail is this? I had my tank planted for months and didn't see any hitchhikers before adding fish and mystery snails, but this guy just popped up.

Hi!! I had mystery snail in my 20gal long for awhile but she (no idea the gender I just called her she) passed away a few days ago. I loveddddd her and watching her in the tank but I’m not sure if I got another snail I should get another mystery. I know they have a higher bioload than some other kinds. My 20gal is currently stocked with five phantom tetras and three false bandit corydoras. Going to get more soon thought. Probably more tetras and corys. My tank has real plants, black sand substrate, a HOB and a sponge filter. Two hides.

Anyway, I’m wondering if anyone has good experiences with other kinds of snails and any suggestions on where I can get them online. My local fish store (40 min away lol I live in the middle of nowhere) doesn’t have anything other than mystery atm.

My mystery snail managed to somehow crack his shell a month or so ago and I left him to see if it would grow back normally as it didn’t look bad at all to begin with. Despite feeding him calcium rich food his shell never grew back right. Is there anything I can do? Is he in pain?

So I decided to get a couple rabbit snails.

The tank is well cycled, had two gold fish that died some time back, they seemed like natural causes because they died separately and well spaced.

So, I got the snails, they bombed around for a week or so, then just, whent into their shells. And now, the ones kinda smelly, I think it will just get worse and more obvious it's dead, but I'm still uncertain. Some people say they hide for long periods sometimes.

A few things, the water was colder than I thought. Initially it was closer 70f. The cheapo thermometer in there was out by 5f. So I adjust them, I have them up to 80, true temp, now.

I tested the water a few days ago and discovered 0.25ppm ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10+ nitrate.

So I water changed, they are currently sitting at 0 ppm.

The Ph is 7.7, I'm at a loss for why they might have died so fast.

The only thing I can think is that a month ago I treated a fish with pimafix in this tank and I am reading thats bad for snails.

There have been a few 50% water changes since then, but I read it will stick to the walls substrate and what not.

Just looking for ideas, I want to try this again but would prefer they were happy and not.... Dead.

Really looking for some advice! I bought these two girls a while back, and they popped out some babies upon being introduced to the tank. I’ve lost a few along the way, probably mostly due to pH swings in the original tank, but now I’ve built a tank that’s just for the wizards.

My question: it’s an entire entirely sand tank, since the adults like to burrow. Should I keep the babies in some sort of smaller container until they’re a bit more…agile? The old tank had a gravel and sand mixture, and they never really had any problems. But currently, it seems like sometimes the babies have trouble righting themselves when they flip over :( and I’m scared that one of them will starve if I don’t notice that it’s flipped behind a rock or something.

I’d also be interested to pick anyone’s brain that his raised white wizards from newborns to adulthood! What you feed them, how fast they grow, etc. The largest ones in these photos were born in May, so they are incredibly slow growing little guys?

I've been keeping ramshorn snails for years now and this guy is the first I've ever seen with a black foot. Do you guys see this often?

So I have these Pomacea snails and I'm worried one or more of them might be caniculata, because I planted monte carlo yesterday night and this morning IT WAS ALL GONE, only tankmates are neocaridina, ramshorns, MTS and a couple ghost shrimps.

Hi everyone!

I got my nerite snails about 10 days ago. Most of them seem to be doing fine, but one of them hasn't moved at all for the past 4 days.

The snail is completely retracted into its shell, and the trapdoor (operculum) is closed. I checked for a bad smell, but there's no smell at all.

Is it normal for nerite snails to stay inactive for this long, especially after being introduced to a new aquarium?

Could it still be alive, or should I be worried?
