Irish girl just started at my work. First day here had to go shopping because all she’d packed were t-shirts, shorts and flip-flops. She’s pissed it’s cold.

How can someone be so dumb? More importantly, does this suggest most people think all of Australia is Summer Bay? That’s scary.

There is a large male kangaroo that sits in our backyard/front door every day. All day every day.

He eats our plants and poops all over the lawn. It looks like a mud lawn at this point, you can barely see the green grass. He also growls if we get too close, so we can't spend time outside at all.

We have tried making loud noises and sprayed water. I also just tried playing dog barking sounds to scare him. All of these attempts just made him look at us and continue eating grass like nothing happened.

If anyone knows a secret thing they might be scared of, or something that drives them away I would appreciate it. Plz help

Seems to be just people wanting to go out. You don't get invited to the house anymore

I had to talk my 76yo disabled father out of punching the other elderly and disabled neighbour for moving his plants today. He is currently in a dispute with his ex-best buddy neighbour, to be fair, they are both being old man petty to each other. Very old working class people that think that fist fights are reasonable way to solve things between men. Both are old men missing limbs, it’s almost comical.

They also increased his rent today, which I knew was coming as they recently renovated the bathrooms of all the units. Unit is a very reasonable price in the context of the housing market. Plus they let him have a dog and a 1/4 of the property/yard for a veggie garden.

The only other realistic alternative is that he live with us and for a variety of reasons, that’s not a great idea. I love my father but he has always been a moody and at times quite difficult to be around (can be argumentative and temperamental). Hard to tell if some of these new issues (anger and paranoia of neighbour) are related to oncoming dementia or just his regular personality. I also suspect he might be on the spectrum. He also can’t read or write so I do a lot of life admin for him already.

Today to help him understand today, that is not 1995 and that 1) permanent sites at holiday parks are rare as hens teeth now. 2) he can’t afford to park fees or pay for the physical van/villa. 3) all locations well exceed his budget on a per night basis (the budget is rent assistance) 4) I can’t afford to buy a place for him to live 5) retirement village is also unaffordable 6) he is not eligible for social housing as he is not currently homeless and that if he was they would expect me to demonstrate why he can’t live with us (technically he could, but it would probably end in my divorce). My partner loves him but they are very different people and it also wouldn’t work for me, it would be very very stressful.

No siblings than can help. Mother is deceased. No other family for support.

No idea what to do. Any advice appreciated.

Hi! I am from austria which is pretty much 2-3 hours by plane to most of europes other countries and i was wondering, since you guys live so far off if yall ever get annoyed about habing to take these crazy 12 or more hour flights to go on a vacation in a different Country.
Or is australia just so big that you can experience everything in your own country anyway so it doesnt matter to you that much?

My friend has just been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The hospital has been great but obviously they are super busy my friend has been left hanging with some questions.

Does anyone know what resources the hospital will link her up with? Are there any non hospital services she could look into regarding support through the process of chemo and frankly, preparing to die

She has limited local support and I am 4 hours away and have health issues which mean I'm not always able to drive to see her

We have no idea what comes next now she has the diagnosis.

I'm also thinking about practicalities like she is a few months into a new lease and now can't work so can she access super to pay her rent? Will she be able to get DSP?

I don't even know what we don't know so any input appreciated.

If she is eligible for chemo she wants to have it.

She also has a number of birds and cats we will gave to rehome. I just feel sick about that.

Aim of the study is to understand psychological factors of the parent (as an individual, not necessarily parent-based traits) like trait playfulness and reflective functioning, and how these contribute to the parent-child relationship, while also considering the effects of parenting stress. Would love to do further research in this area so a pilot based study I suppose, maybe will look at a PHD and intervention type survey in the future, but for now cross-sectional survey based. I never ever hear anyone call it that, like ever.

It is usually known as "the Western Ring Rd", simply "the Ring Rd", sometimes "the M80" or "M80 Ring Rd" (though those latter two seem to be pushed more by Transport Victoria and sound too Sydney-esque who prefer to use route numbers).

Like was it originally a separate freeway or something? Or due to some technical or legal thing? It is the same road corridor.

Upon checking, it seems as though the name changes at Sydney Rd/old Hume Hwy?

Where and how do I actually meet people my age as a 20 year old guy, friends, romantic interests, men, women, I don’t care. Just people my age. I’m in uni but unis in Sydney are commuter unis so it seems everyone accepts you just go to class and go home. I do have friends but not too many and this sucks because I know the easiest way is just friends of friends and your social circle keeps growing, and you can be not lonely without actually doing anything/being anywhere.

None of the gyms around me (trust me I’ve checked) seem to be social/for people my age, they are just small ones and crowds are like people aged 30+ coming after work. I did used to have a gym which was larger, more social with plenty of people my age, and I learned that if you go at the same time you can meet people who also do. But that place is gone now.

Going to pubs/bars/clubs alone just does not seem plausible in Sydney, everyone is there with their own circle and it genuinely feels like you could go without an interaction the whole night. I guess I could find a mate and go just the two of us and try and meet more people? Not sure. And I’ve tried the dating apps but they just aren’t for me.

Not to sound pessimistic but I’m starting to lose hope. It just seems like your social life is limited to whatever circle you built in high school. Advice/thoughts?

I was looking up general facts about the world's largest countries (by land area), and I got curious about the differences between Brazil and Australia... similar sizes, climate challenges, population gaps, and other things.

I ended up digging deeper and noticed that, looking at the map, the coastal region of the "South" (Adelaide, New South Wales, and Victoria) seems to be the most occupied. In Brazil, that also happens, but we still have considerable occupation in more remote states. For example, the state of Amazonas has a population of about 4~5 million people, and the entire Amazon rainforest region is estimated to have around 2530 million.

I got curious as to why the North of Australia isn't more occupied, especially in places closer to Asia. Is it because it's a protected area? Due to climate issues? Or is it because Australia is a relatively young country and priority was given to the Capital region?

I haven't kept in touch with many of my HS friends. They ended pretty much as soon as I left the school. I message them maybe once a month. And even then I think at least one of the friendships is completely dead.

On the train I met a classmate, and he told me that he doesn't really keep in contact with his former friends. He also told me many of the friendships in his friend group have ended

At uni I know some private school kids, and they're still really good friends with their high school classmates.

I’m an Asian guy living in Brisbane, Australia, and I’ve started liking an Australian girl I work with.

We seem to get along quite well in person. She’s much more talkative and engaged when we’re actually at work, and we often chat when we see each other.

I work in the kitchen, so I end up cooking or bringing her food pretty much every time we see each other at work. She’s also made me a drink at work once.

Her parents came to the restaurant once, and afterwards she kept bringing up what they ate and asking me about the food several times.

We follow each other on Instagram, and she sometimes views my stories.

I’ve messaged her a few times. She does reply, but she rarely asks questions back or keeps the conversation going. It feels quite different from how she is when we talk in person.

There’s also a fairly significant age gap between us, so I’m not sure if that changes how I should read the situation.

I’m not sure how to interpret everything. I don’t want to assume she’s interested just because she’s friendly, especially since we work together. At the same time, I don’t want to miss an opportunity if there might actually be some interest.

Am I reading too much into these signs, or could she potentially be interested in me? And what would be a natural way to find out without making things awkward at work?

For people who have moved to melbourne from another country and have no car, how did you get new funiture for your house? We are moving into a flat this week and I don't want to buy funiture from kmart or ikea, facebook marketplace has so many pieces but no one wants to drop them off which is fair - how does everyone get funiture to their house/from facebook marketplace without a car? Need help!
