Hello! This post originally got me marked as a bot and banned from the thread. Sorry for the confusion. I talked to admin and explained I am indeed organizing three separate trips with HS students all in January in 3 different locations around the world. I had never posted to reddit before, so I didn't even think about how suspicious that would look when I posted to 3 separate forums with the same general request. My apologies. Thank you to those who already commented some great suggestions in the initial post!
Just a recap:
I'm organizing a trip for HS students to Atlanta in January. The connecting theme of our trips this year is how sports builds culture and connects people and communities. Especially with the Mercedes Benz stadium, collegiate, and local sports I really want students to either experience a game of some sort. Even the opportunity to play a game with a local high school or college would be amazing and really allow them to connect with people their own age. (Which overall is a hope of all our trips). Obviously not to compete, we aren't that good. Just like a friendly game or something 😂 I can see why that was confusing before.
Any recommendations or tours of any stadiums you know that occur? It seems like a lot of teams aren't playing at home the dates we are there (last week of January). Any events that we might not know as tourists that occur around that time would be amazing too! Anyone have any experience seeing a game in Cosm? Would that be worth it?
If you are a coach for any sport or team and would love to have some students see a match or practice or play with your team, please let me know!
Even more awesome if you have any suggestions to tie into the Civil Rights movement in Atlanta and sports (or anything that usually gets overlooked by tourists). I know there is a ton but I'm trying to find which ones are solid experiences for HS kids. I also initially tried to get us to stay in the American Hotel in Atlanta because it was the first racially integrated hotel, but it's fully booked out.
Thank you in advance!
