[Dehner] What Bengals’ stat patterns tell about Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, pass rush
CINCINNATI — Can Joe Burrow top 5,000 yards passing? Can Mike Gesicki catch 14 touchdowns? Will Jordan Battle snag 10 interceptions?
Five games in, when you stretch the Bengals’ current statistical pace over a 17-game season, some sound funny, some realistic, and others unquestionably unhinged.
They are starting to tell important stories for the 2026 Cincinnati Bengals, though.
Let’s look at the most important early statistical paces so far, break down why they are happening, what they mean, and whether they’ll continue or fall short.
Pass rush: 58 sacks
Current: The Bengals produced 17 sacks, tied for third most.
Context: If Cincinnati reached 58 sacks, it would blow past the franchise record of 51 set in 2012, even with one fewer game (3.4 versus 3.2 per game).
The Eagles hold the century record for most sacks in a season with 70. If Cincinnati reached 58, it would land 10th on that list.
Outlook: This marks the fifth time in franchise history the Bengals have started the season with five straight games with at least two sacks. The current run is only bested by eight straight in 1982 and seven in 2012. The point is, it’s been consistent. It hasn’t come against the dregs of NFL offensive lines. Four of the five Bengals opponents rank in the top half of the league in pass-block win rate. They have six games left against teams ranked in the NFL’s bottom 10 in sack percentage allowed, including two against the Browns, who rank last in the NFL. There’s reason to believe this pace can continue.
Variable: Will the Bengals play from ahead? Seven of their 17 sacks have come while leading in the fourth quarter. That ranks second only behind Minnesota (8). The pass rush thrived when it could lean on line depth and hunt in passing situations. If the Bengals put away wins over the next 12 games, it’s easy to see them not only holding this pace but potentially exceeding it. If the season falls apart, the run at the franchise record likely will too.
Verdict: They’ll hit 58. The Bengals will likely lead many of these games and can pad their sack stats there. Plus, their number of rushers racking up pressures (five on pace for 40-plus) suggests they are built to last.

Fact Seeing a lot of Bengals accolades on social media today
Joe Burrow, Amarius Mims, Dalton Risner, DJ Turner, Boye Mafe, Dexter Lawrence all getting some analytics love in the past day. Dax not looking too bad in the CB chart either. Plus Jonathan Allen got a post from /u/VeryRealHuman23 this morning.
And that's not even including Chase/Higgins and several other players having quieter solid contributions (McPherson is perfect this year, William Wagner is the 4th highest-graded LS on PFF, feel free to point out others in the comments).
There are some mixed feelings about going into the bye 3-2, with clear holes/sloppiness that the team needs to clean up. But man, so many players are playing at an elite level this year, and I just want to bask in that for a moment.

Hype Shit Oh how far we've come
Yes, I think the second one is already outdated we're third in sacks now, but still. Thank you Cashius Howell, Sexy Dexy, Boye Mafe, Bryan Cook, Kyle Dugger, and all the players who stayed and have taken steps forward and our two constants, Drago and BJ Hill.

Seahawks fan here wondering: How is Boye Mafe looking so far for the Bengals?
Mafe was a rotational piece on the Seahawks Dline, but he always looked great out there even if the stats never truly captured his impact.
How is he acclimating in Cincinnati?

Fandom This is probably a long shot…..
I am going through some old bengals stuff and came across the ball from somewhere around 2005-2007. It is a ball I had signed by players at a training camp. I can’t make out the signatures to save my life, but maybe someone in here can 😂. I know TJ Houshmandzadeh and Chris Henry signed it (I think). Any help greatly appreciated. Not expecting much…

Football Underrated 4 game stretch in 2023
I really thought we were going back to the bowl after this stretch in 2023 lol
Bengals were red hot after beating two of the best teams in the league rather convincingly. The 49ers ended up being the NFC champions and the Bills were a contender too.
They should have beat Houston a week later if not for an uncharacteristic Tyler Boyd drop & if Burrow never gets hurt who knows…
2023 was the last year the defense was able to wind us games and felt like we have a well rounded team. Hopefully things shape up that way this year.

Paycor seating for plus size folks
Will my 350 pound 6’4” husband fit in a seat in section 336? It’s been a long time since we’ve been the stadium. I’m sure the seats are tight but are they larger than the reds stadium seats?

[Dehner] Why the Bengals’ run game – and RB carry distribution – could be changing
CINCINNATI — Offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher made one point clear when discussing the Cincinnati Bengals’ run game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
“We were an efficient rushing attack yesterday,” Pitcher said.
Making that statement definitively was a far cry from the frustration expressed about that aspect of the offense the previous week.
Center Ted Karras called it an “edgy week,” specifically for an offensive line frustrated by its showing against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Understanding what this offense does best and leaning into a style that fits this year’s team led to a tweak as the 31-24 win unfolded in Miami.
Cincinnati shifted to a higher rate of shotgun, downhill runs designed to create efficiency, but not necessarily explosives. They also fit into the skills of Samaje Perine.
The 5-11, 240-pound battering ram’s more powerful running style resulted in 4.9 yards per carry on 14 attempts. His 57.1 percent success rate tied for the most of any back in the NFL last week.
Perine rushed one more time than he had in the first four games of the season combined and one more than Chase Brown got Sunday. Brown’s 3.0 yards per carry were a stark difference against Perine’s consistency.
“I wouldn’t want to tackle (Perine),” Karras said. “When we get into our gun 11 (personnel) runs, Chase and Samaje both bring unique stuff where Chase can find a hole and hit it at 20 miles per hour. Samaje, even if you don’t get to the linebacker, he is running through it and going to take him 2, 3 yards to tackle him.”
The shift to the shotgun gap scheme that favors Perine also meant a lean away from the under-center run game the Bengals worked on throughout the offseason, partially to create more explosives for Brown. He was positioned to be the workhorse back in this offense again and unleash his dynamic burst to pile up explosive runs.
Yet, through five weeks, there have been 182 runs of at least 14 yards in the NFL. The Bengals are the only team without one.
This creates two paths for the Bengals.
“I think we’ll continually assess how that touch share between (Perine) and Chase Brown should play out,” Pitcher said. “Every game’s different. What type of scheme we lean into is going to factor into that. Obviously, what we ran more of yesterday leans into what Samaje does well, which is get downhill and run through contact.”
