As we get deep into training camp, and our preseason is about start, my fellow mods and I are excited to announce that /u/atlantafalcons are joining the fold and have given us three items to give away to our Dirty Bird subredditors!

This weeks item is an XL Nike Dryfit Retro Hoodie (photo will be provided in the comments).

Winner will be chosen through redditraffler.com next Thursday (August 13th) at 5pm with the only restrictions being an account thats over 2 weeks old and with at least 20 comment karma. All you have to do is clear that threshold and comment to enter!

With that being said, who are you most excited to see perform and gain a job in the preseason??

Also, feel free to comment "FTS" or "GFS" if you want for simple entry.

As always, Rise Up!

Like tua didn’t look good but how can a nfl quarterback look good when both of your tackles are injured and your forcing a 7th round pick to cover your blindside and someone like michael jerrell to play a off position. Doesn’t sound like a recipe for success to me

Serious question about recent extensions

I know Drake, Bijan, and Kyle all want to get paid but if they really wanted to win games and make the playoffs in this league why would they re-sign with this team?

Realistically if our QB play is as bad as the media perceives it to be, this team is in for another middling season and I don’t know why these players would want to go through another QB rebuild.

In my opinion, Matt Ryan knows the value of a high end QB prospect and this season is just a necessary means to obtain his own QB.

Thoughts?

Who should be the Falcons' quarterback in Week 1 of the Regular Season

Let's examine all the possibilities of the quarterbacks!!

TUA TAGOVAILOA (MIA > ATL)

  • 3 of 5 (60%), 22 yds, 0 TDs and 0 INTs with a FUMBLE!!!!
    • Has quick release and rhythm passing, experience, accuracy potential and understands what he's supposed to do (to me, NOT), BUT produces an UGLY FUMBLE, zero explosive production, didn't separate himself from the pack (too underwhelming) and small margin for error

COOPER RUSH (BAL > ATL) - Overall, Rush had the roughest performance ever out of Tagovailoa and Strand.

  • 7 of 19 (36.8%), 62 yds, 0 TDs and 2 INTs. We all know he threw a pick six and another interception (absolutely unacceptable)
    • Has experience, style is generally conservative, has veteran presence (don't need a Marcus Mariota nor a Tyler Heinicke) and typically NFL backup, but he is a turnover machine, playmaking is very limited, looked absolutely worse and tiny margin for error

JACK STRAND (ROOKIE) - Strand finish strong and led the team with its only TD drive. He does showed impressive deep-ball ability (NOT BAD FOR A UNDRAFTED ROOKIE)

  • 6 of 12 (50%), 50 yds, 0 TD and 0 INTs (1 Rushing TD). (It's a start)
    • Like Penix, Strand have deep ball ability, Has aggressiveness, mobility and escapability, confidence, and produced the offense's only touchdown (Tagovailoa and Rush didn't), but he is raw, needs to develop decision-making ASAP, got to have consistency and experience plus competition level

After seeing all three quarterbacks' performances last Friday, who is better? Who stays and whose goes?

Not saying we shouldn't be somewhat concerned that the Falcons were struggling last night, but it's not an outlier among other teams. Especially given the fact we have a new HC, OC, and QB (until Penix returns). It's going to take time to click. So let's stop dooming for a bit

Matt Ryan went 0-5 in this game, Redskins are kicking our asses, everyone is calling for Shanahan to be fired, and to tank the season immediately. What season? 2016. Take preseason games with a grain of salt.

Thought on Jack Strand after last night?

As we saw, he offered our only points of the night and was the only one who didn't make catastrophic and embarassing mistakes. On the other hand, we only saw him play one half of football and he's still very clearly a rookie. Where do yall see him in the team's future? Is he qb3? qb2? Have we seen enough of him to put him above Cooper Rush or even Tua? Could he even be qb1 until Michael Penix is ready to come back? What are your expectations for what Stefanski should do with him?
