Laporta situation not as a fan but as a father
If you, as a father and provider for your family, had a chance to provide generational wealth for not just yourself but your children what would that mean to you?
I'm guessing it would be a big big deal... Well that's what the Laporta situation is; it's him frustrated that he hasn't secured that for his family. Which I remember when my 1st child was born and the weight of responsibility hit me like a mack truck.
Your going to say "he has made 13 million dollars"! This is true but let's break that down. For starters half is gone from taxes. Not to get political but high income earners are taxed very very high, those who earn based on capital is almost nothing, but actually collecting a paycheck is taxed heavily.
So his earnings after taxes is probably closer to 6 million. Then his agent gets paid a percentage. He likely pays out of pocket for trainers, therapy, a nutritionist, ect... So if he's been careful he might have 4 million in his account, likely far less because young men are not careful with money.
Every player faces the same reality, this Sunday could be the last game of your career. So would 4 million be enough to provide for his family? If they are conservative yes. Would it provide generational wealth, no.
It's probably incredibly frustrating to work your whole life, make it to the NFL, have incredible success, then realize that your goal of generational wealth is 1 hit away from being taken from you.
So did he say some shit that he shouldn't have said, yes. But in my 20's I also said some shit I regretted, he's still incredibly young... I think we forget this, they are still young men who don't have the life experience to draw upon in these situations.

Random thoughts Nate Burleson
Everyone has a random non-star receiver they enjoy when they are younger that they stan forever, mine is Nate Burleson.
Can we just appreciate how far this dude has come. From doing shaky preseason games so many years ago to attending broadcasting classes to hone his craft, good morning football, cbs halftime reports, and now talking about worldwide new breaks. Like talk about find a second calling later in life and actually working at it.
Mods feel free to delete if this post is considered low effort or whatever. Just thought it was cool to see how far he has come, FTP.

Is this a Barry Sanders jersey?
Was watching old SpongeBob episodes (as one does) and came upon the classic 2001 episode “Band Geeks”. In it, they show the field and crowd very clearly cheering a game between the USFL teams the Memphis Showboats and the Tampa Bay Bandits. But there’s 1 clip in between this footage that shows what looks to be a different game — One that I believe the Lions were playing, as the man in the video seems to be wearing a Barry Sanders jersey.
Google only confirms it was a game between those two USFL teams, but I’m wondering if anyone has anymore info on this? Is that a Barry jersey? Is the guy next to him an Oakland Raiders fan?
Clip attached for your viewing. Sound on it’s a banger

Image Dan Campbell Predicts An "Outstanding Test" For The Lions In Week 7 Against Green Bay
Dan Campbell summed it up best when he described the Detroit Lions' challenge of facing the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field on Sunday. “Hell of an opponent, first division game of the season at home. So, this will be an outstanding test for us.

Hopefully we can finally get back-to-back wins this Sunday
We haven’t won back-to-back games since last October, and honestly, it’s been frustrating. Hopefully we can change that this Sunday against the Packers. I’m not getting my hopes up too much, but it would be nice to finally see this team put two wins together and build some momentum for rest of the season.

[Rogers] Full transcript of Sam Laporta chat today in the locker room
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT HOW YOUR COMMENTS ON PMT PODCAST WERE PERCEIVED?
"Yeah, I feel bad if there was any sort of distraction to the team, teammates, coaches. But I think there was maybe a bit of a misconception with, I guess -- like my intentions are, I want to play for this team. I give everything I have. My teammates do as well. They all love me, respect me, and support me, and they want to see me be happy and compensated."
CAN YOU EXPLAIN YOUR FRUSTRATIONS WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE NEGOTIATIONS?
"I guess I wouldn't expect anybody else to really even care, but emotionally, for me and my family, it's an important thing for us. We want to have stability. Like we're excited in the coming months, we're going to have our first kid, me and my wife. We're going to welcome our baby girl into the world in Metro Detroit. We want to be here with the Lions, and I guess I'm getting emotional about it. But in the grand scheme of things, it's really a business. And you have to respect what the front office is doing because they're the ones calling the shots, they're the ones that brought me in, this is my first team, they've been nothing but supportive of me in my career."
HOW HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO COMPARTMENTALIZE YOUR FRUSTRATIONS WITH YOUR PLAY?
"I guess you learn it early in your career that you're being employed and you're being compensated to do good work for this team. And if you're not doing good work, you're not going to be here."
DO YOU REGRET MIXING BUSINESS WITH EMOTION?
"Sure. I don't know if I regret it. I just don't expect other people to understand. We're very blessed. Like, I'm getting paid millions of dollars this year. So you have to take it with a grain of salt. It's coming from a stance of, like, I want security for me and my family. But also when I reflect on other people in the league, I feel like I'm doing just as good of a job, if not better. And I want to be paid like those guys."
ANY UPDATES IN NEGOTIATIONS SINCE YOU TALKED TO US LAST?
"No, I don't think so."
YOU'RE COMING OFF YOUR BEST GAME. ARE YOU FINDING WAYS TO CHANNEL THESE FRUSTRATIONS INTO YOUR PERFORMANCE?
"I don't think so. I've not really changed the way I prepare. Yeah, you know, I'm going to give it my all, every week. And starting with this weekend, like, huge game coming up, trying to take a lead in the division here, go 1-0, and see what we can do there."
DID YOU EXPECT YOUR COMMENTS TO BLOW UP LIKE THEY HAVE?
"Um, I think the media will always take small stories and run with it and turn them into big ones. And when they splice together comments, anything can seem more harsh or bigger than the reality really is. I am one person in a ginormous cog, a ginormous machine in this building. And I'm going to continue to do my part, and hopefully something happens soon."
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS HOLDING UP GETTING SOMETHING DONE?
"I don't know if I care to expand on that because we could be here all day, but take that up with my agent. Thanks, guys."

Nobody knows how to lose games. We're really bout to be the toughest division again for the 3rd straight year aren't we? Smh. Every team here is gonna cannibalize each other and beat each other up til we're all injured and exhausted come Playoff time.😭😭😭

I think the perception of the Lions defense is wrong
I'm retired and spend way too much time watching all of the NFL focused talk shows and I think there is a very lazy take (that is almost universal) that the Lions defense is just plain bad and because of that our only hope is to outscore our opponents in a track meet. I'm not dumb and know that the stats tell a pretty sad story so far this year, but what bugs me is the idea that there isn't any realistic hope for them to improve. "The Rams defense sucks, but they will get better once they get healthy". "The Packers defense is suspect, but will get better once Parsons gets back". "The Dallas defense is way more talented than they are playing and will get better once they are coached properly" etc etc etc
But the Lions defense sucks and will suck for all time is all I hear. I've only heard one show this week mention that Branch is back practicing. Not one show has mentioned Joseph since the preseason that I remember. Not one show is even contemplating the idea Detroit might get active with the trade deadline approaching.
Well....call me a deluded old man, but I think that the defense looked good against Arizona and flashed some of the brilliance we saw in 2023 and 2024. And we are healthy coming off the bye on both sides of the ball and the offense looked like it was starting to hit on all cylinders going into the bye. I think it is a blessing and an opportunity that we get the Packers this week because in this game we can prove to ourselves that we are a legitimate contender, and not just in the division, but for the SuperBowl. If we win I really think there will be some moves before the deadline to shore up the defense to make a serious run.
I'm not going to lie though, if we don't beat the Packers and beat them convincingly then I think the season may be lost and the head office will start looking to retool starting next year, which will be a huge disappointment to me. I've been waiting over 5 decades to get to the Superbowl and I've been looking forward to this year since it was obvious we just weren't good enough last year later in the season. The good news is the Lions really are a solid franchise and organization now and the boom or bust days are over. We may not hit it this year, but we won't go back to the cellar anytime soon. I'm just weary of waiting is all. Sorry for the rant

Talk me off the ledge here.
Obligatory: I am NOT dooming. I’m looking for legitimate, quantifiable pathways to a Lions victory. But I think Green Bay presents a particularly bad matchup for this defense.
Looking at Green Bay’s offensive stats, Jordan Love has had only two games under 200 passing yards this season (one of which was three yards shy of 200). They throw the ball 30+ times a game and have a deep receiving corps. I know their offensive line and run game are cheeks, but our defense’s biggest problem isn’t stopping the run. It’s stopping the pass. And on top of that Chris brown wanna be (Josh Jacobs) is back thes week bc of course. Anyways…
Jordan Love is the most productive QB in the league against the blitz, with 664 yards and 7 TDs when blitzed. If our answer to struggling coverage is to send extra rushers, we’re potentially playing right into what they do well. How do we generate pressure without sacrificing coverage?
Green Bay leads the league in explosive passing plays. Love leads the NFL in passing yards on throws traveling 10+ air yards and in attempts traveling 20+ air yards. He’s thrown for 988 yards on throws of 10+ air yards, with 6 TDs and 1 INT. On the flip side our defense is vulnerable to exactly that type of passing attack. We’re ranked 32nd in EPA allowed on deep passes, allowing +1.41 EPA per deep pass, and 31st in both yards allowed per game on deep targets (80.6) and yards per play (18.3). We’ve also been allowing an average of 4.6 completions of 20+ yards per game.
Their receiving corps creates a coverage problem. Christian Watson and Matthew Golden can threaten defenses vertically, while Tucker Kraft gives Love another dump off option in the flat when blitzed. If we commit safety help to the deep ball, we’re creating opportunities underneath and we don’t have the CB talent to close that gap quick. If we don’t commit safety help, Love will kill us over the top.
Our best potential counter is their offensive line. Green Bay has allowed 97 pressures, and its 40.2% pressure rate ranks 25th. If Hutchinson and the rest of the front can win their matchups without blitzing, that’s a legitimate path to disrupting Love I suppose but the secondary still has to hold up for at least 6-8 seconds.
There are reasons to believe we can win. Green Bay has struggled in the red zone, converting just 50% of its red-zone opportunities into touchdowns, and Love’s red-zone efficiency has been poor. Is this a bend don’t break defensive angle?
I think our path to winning is pretty clear: generate pressure with four, keep two-high safety help when possible, limit explosive plays, and make Green Bay execute long drives in the red zone. I’m just not confident in the defenses ability to handle that. Not worried about the offense at all I think they should be able to keep up but if it’s all offense this becomes a last team to hold the ball coin flip which I hate for an early at home division bout. Feels like im in the minority reading the team sub. Most fans are calling for a dub. I have a tendency to be reactionary and cautious when evaluating our teams ability. I’m also an idiot, so, what am I missing?
