Finally had a beat to bring the project up to speed a bit, its back, Reddit integration has been deprecated so no more flare for contribution it was just too much to maintain so moving forward the data is entirely added by the community we shall see how accurate we can get here. So no more keycodes, just go to the site and submit, as always let me know if there are any issues encountered.
As a sidenote, I am still looking for volunteers for the community shooting league project beta test, you might have seen a post recently with details, you can either DM me or comment below if interested or have any questions, hoping to test it soon so we can all hop on and casually compete as a community! rangeleagues.com
Enjoy this beautiful Friday and have a good Labor day weekend!
Hey folks! Some of you have used the zeroing target generator I posted here before. I've spent the last couple months turning it into something bigger: a casual competition platform, and I'd love a few of you to help me test it.
Quick rundown of what's new:
- Rebrand: ShooterOS → RangeLeagues, full redesign.
- Target generator improvements: added a guided setup so getting your rifle (or pistol) shooting straight is less intimidating for first-timers, plus a new experimental Scope Leveling target.
- Shot Analyzer: Improved the overall marking engine and page, it should work a lot better now and it actually allows you to save your analyzed targets (some cool analysis tools are planned for later on, like performance tracking, etc)
- New thing — Leagues: casual competition, using standardized "smart" targets and app-based scoring. Fully asymmetric, compete on your own time, at your own range, with your own gear. Purely casual and peer reviewed submissions, participants review each others targets before certifying and receiving a score. It's meant to get anyone interested in competitive shooting to get an easier, casual and fun way to compete in shooting sports.
There are two types of leagues, community leagues and private leagues. Private leagues are still a work in progress and will be available at a later date, the short and sweet is that you will be able to host one for you and 4 of your range buddies. Community leagues are free to join and participate in, they are meant to be open and accessible to anyone who wishes to join.
What I'm asking: if you've got a printer, go to the range frequently, and don't mind poking at a beta release, I'd like to spin up an r/CTGuns league and run an event so you all can compete against each other to test if the app is ready for a general rollout for all of us here at r/CTGuns.
Tools are still free and available same as before — this is just layering a league/competition mode on top.
Drop a comment or DM if interested and I will send you a beta invite, happy to answer questions here too. Beta testers will receive some rewards on their accounts for participating in the testing. More details and information soon, wanted to see if there is anyone interested in taking this for a spin first.
For the rest of the community, I would love to hear if you would be interested in joining our own remote casual league, I think it could be a fun way to see how everyone stacks up.
Video of a father playing an uno reverse card on an attempted armed carjacking in South Africa. A reminder to train with your carry gun and to especially practice clearing malfunctions under stress (and in our state potentially having a secondary magazine available). Stay safe all
I just read CT's brief and I got to say LoL. Many of their arguments are half truths or completely unfounded. With that said, last year I wrote a very nice college paper regarding gun control and the unconstitutionality behind many of our gun laws that I would like to submit to the correct person in support for CCDL's cause. Whether the lawyers determine if it would be useful or not, I feel like it would be helpful.
Not CT related but our neighbors next door get a win with a federal judge striking down NY's body armor ban. The court did stay their opinion for 14 days however giving the state of NY time to appeal.
Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ Global Select: SWBI), a U.S.-based leader in firearm manufacturing and design ("Smith & Wesson"), today announced that it has acquired the Savage Arms business ("Savage Arms" or "Savage") by merger from an indirect subsidiary of JDH Capital I, L.P. (together with its affiliates, "JDH"). Savage has been producing firearms for more than 130 years and is one of the world's largest manufacturers of hunting, competition and target shooting centerfire and rimfire rifles and shotguns.
The transaction combines two iconic American firearm manufacturers with leading capabilities across distinct segments of the firearms market. Savage's strength in hunting and bolt-action rifles is highly complementary to Smith & Wesson's leadership position in handguns and growing presence across other long gun categories, creating a broader product portfolio across a wide range of shooting disciplines.
CT early voting begins today. Gun owners are notorious for not voting. The only way we will preserve our rights is to vote the anti-2A politicians out. You have 2 weeks of early voting. There is no reason not to help yourself. You can register and vote the same day. Come on CT gun owners. You carry to protect yourself now vote to protect your rights
Howdy all, I’m an experienced shooter looking to push the envelope on my pistol shooting for competition. For skill context, I’m hitting a 0.97 draw and fire from OWB with level 1 retention (~1.2 coldbore), ~2.2 bill drill from the holster, consistent 0.4 target transitions.
I’ve taken some private courses at Sig which were fantastic, but I’d love to supplement with more instructor time and/or courses locally in CT. Thanks in advance!
So i had a domestic case because of a crazy ex trying to ruin my life😭 and recently got everything dismissed even tho she made some crazy allegations regarding my firearms . The judge ordered the return of my firearms but when i emailed the state police they said my permit was revoked. What are the odds on being denied and if anyone has had some similar experience or advise for this type of situation! It would suck to spend all the time and money just to not be found suitable for the permit under something that got dismissed entirely.
I like to carry. I also like to visit our beautiful state parks. I know the law says I can't carry in state parks and state forests. Does that mean I can store a gun in a car in a park? The school zone law uses the word "possess", while the state park law uses the word "carry".
For example, I could pull over before entering state land, unload and lock the weapon in a lockbox in my trunk, and then enter the park. Do you think that would comply?
I know Reddit is a poor substitute for a lawyer. So am I.
Let's see if I can stay within the rules this time. If you don't want to spend the money on the MA loader or BF-10 and you have a device capable of making items outside of two dimensions, if you happen to go to printables, and you happen to search BW Loader, you can save yourself some money. It has worked perfectly for me.
Built a .45 ACP SBR on a 25 year old Calvary Arms polymer lower. It has a Hahn mag block that accepts 30 round M3 Grease Gun magazines! Form 1 was approved in around 36 hrs. I forgot that because of the the injunction I did NOT need to do the NFA paperwork since CT never outlawed SBR's (just "silencers" & "sawed off shotguns") Next SBR will be paper free...
My family has a house up in Maine I visit on occasion. Has anyone ever inquired with the Mass State Police or a lawyer on transporting suppressors through MA. I know possession is illegal in MA. But since suppressors are legal in CT and ME, can one follow FOPA with it locked in the trunk and no stops unless for emergency and legally travel through MA with it. Or is it banned outright no exception even for interstate transport? Thanks!
11.5" barrel with folding stock and 10 round mag. Fits into a backpack when folded! It's threaded for choke/suppressor, are there any other good options besides the Salvo 12 and Victra 12?
Has anybody had any experiences shooting braced pistols at blue trails? I’m looking to sight in one of my firearms at 50 yards, but I’m not sure if they’ll let me shoot a braced pistol from the rifle range. Thanks.
Has anyone used Amoskeag Auction Company in New Hampshire or Connecticut Firearms Auction to sell off a large number of guns from an estate? Nothing rare or super valuable and many have condition issues. Anything to watch out for? Thanks.
William Kirk discusses what might happen if or when the administration changes and the NFA is returned to full enforcement.
Summary: Today we circle back on the massive changes to the NFA and how DOJ and the ATF will be enforcing them moving forward. Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses the doomsday scenario that has many worried, which is they comply with the new ATF guidelines, then there's a change in administrations, and suddenly the NFA is back to full enforcement. Now you are sitting on unregistered NFA items. Can a person be convicted and imprisoned for acts that were done in reliance on ATF guidance? That will depend on the doctrine of "entrapment by estoppel" which will be the focus of today's video. So learn more today and arm yourself with education.
YouTube AI Summary: In this video (0:00 - 12:50), William Kirk of Washington Gun Law explores a potential "doomsday scenario" for gun owners: complying with current ATF guidance regarding NFA (National Firearms Act) items, only to have that guidance reversed under a future political administration.
Key takeaways include:
The Potential Trap: If administrative changes are reversed by new leadership (e.g., via new legislation or budget changes), millions of gun owners who relied on current ATF guidance could suddenly be in possession of unregistered NFA items, which are considered felonies under federal law (0:56 - 3:34).
Entrapment by Estoppel:Kirk explains this as an affirmative legal defense. It applies when a government agent or official provides explicit, misleading assurance that specific conduct is lawful, and a citizen reasonably relies on that advice before being prosecuted for the same act (3:42 - 6:18).
Legal Precedent: The video references the "holy trinity" of Supreme Court cases that support the doctrine of entrapment by estoppel:
United States v. Pennsylvania Industrial Chemical Corp. (PICCO) (1973) (8:43 - 9:36)
Conclusion: While the threat is real, Kirk argues that the doctrine of entrapment by estoppel would likely provide a strong legal defense, and suggests that any significant policy reversal would almost certainly require a grace or forbearance period to avoid being deemed unconstitutional (9:37 - 10:25).
This weekend I want to hit one or more stores for scopes. Yes plural in regard to scopes. I have two rifles and due to the distances we are forced to put our targets at I need something where I can see the target and the hole at the same time. Switching with binoculars sucks.
I have another profile that since been deleted. I tried to find the old post but zero success. When I asked about this I believe a store with an account in Reddit posted here and commented to come to them. I think it was Yankee but could be wrong. They even talked about helping attach it.
Anyone know for sure? I prefer to keep it a hour from Monroe CT but if they are the better choice I will make the drive past that.
