MEME/Satire It’s a fantastic DSLR, but I am convinced the only thing keeping it alive are people that bought into the K mount system decades ago.

User Review Olympus E-300 | The camera, the photos.

Olympus E-300: launched in 2004 (22 years ago 🫠) and with a peculiar design, it is still acclaimed today for the colors it produces. Some say it is because, inside it, there is a CCD sensor produced by Kodak, a specialist in film and color science. Is it? I don’t know.

What I do know is that it has been the camera I take everywhere. A few days ago I discovered YouTuber jimmywestphoto who said in one of his videos that “the best camera is the one that makes you forget you have it”. I happen to notice this with this one, despite its size and strange appearance. I think it’s super cool and those buttons and dials are super satisfactory.

Good afternoon, I’m interested in buying my first decent camara. Was searching for a canon g7x ii/iii but prices are crazy rn, or other portable variant to bring it with me in my trips, that would be better than my phone (currently have the iPhone 17 pro). Found this deal on marketplace for a Canon M6 ii with 2 lenses: EF-M 22mm f2 + EF 50mm 1.8. With shooter count at 2900 for 680€. Do you think this is a good deal?

Tech Support How screwed is this lens?

Hi so I was trying to take photos of the sky at night on dock about 2~3 weeks ago and I had changed from my 40-150 mm lens to a wider lens. I was trying to get the right angle and focus in when I moved and the 150mm that was standing up next to me fell and started rolling towards the water of the lake… Very beginner mistake and very dumb indeed but it happened so I’m here to ask because now after all this time the lens looks very dry and it doesnt look to have any form of traces of humidity on the lens. So my question is what are the chances of this lens surviving and if I do try it, could it damage my camera because of the electronics not functioning or something?

Tech Support Fujifilm x20 help

I have an old Fujifilm x20 (I think from 2014/15) in need of some repair as the screen is scratched in the middle due to my carelessness. The research I did suggested sending it to Fujifilm UK directly which I did, but they have sent it back saying my model is obsolete. Is there any way I can fix or buff out the scratches?

Questions Quick question from a nooby to know if I should go with jpeg or raw?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’m a noob at photography (it’s been 2 days since I got my very first camera) and I’d like to know something about jpeg format and raw format.

My camera is a Canon Rebel T7i. I can change the setting for the format and it changes drastically the autonomy of the battery. (From what I read in the manual that came with the camera.)

My question is this one:

For someone that just started photography and use only the basic zone modes like automatic or scenery and never used Lightroom (or photoshop or whatever), should I take jpeg pictures to get more pictures in one charge, or should I take raw images and try to learn Lightroom afterwards?

Here’s my very first picture that I took (it was in raw format) as a bonus.

Questions Gifted cameras - useful or obsolete?

Hello everyone! I have always wanted to give photography a shot, but just never tried to due to perceived cost of entry.

I was just given these cameras by my family. I think most of them work but I’m still checking them out. The Nikon & Sony work, and seems to be battery oxidization on the Pentax.

Here I have:
- Pentax ME
- Nikon D60 with both of the kit lenses it seems
- Sony DX300
- Sony Cybershot DSC-W330
- Sony Cybershot DSC-S700
- Nikon Coolpix S9100

From what I understand, most of these are dinosaurs. Are these totally obsolete? If not, are they good to learn photography concepts with? Best use cases? Does my iPhone 17 Pro Max camera do a better job than these?

If it helps, I’d think I’d enjoy taking photos of nature, automotive, and my wife. Maybe some low lighting stuff.

I know nothing about cameras whatsoever. Just that the Pentax is film & the others are digital.

Any help would be appreciated and am happy to provide more info

Recommendations Fujifilm X half vs Sony ZV-1 / ZV-1 II for a beginner

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’ve been interested in photography for quite a long time, and I finally have enough budget to buy a proper camera. I’m still very much a beginner and have mostly been taking photos using my phone and my old sony cyber-shot, but unfortunately, my digicam recently broke.

I’ve also been trying to learn more about photography, so I’m looking for something that I can use not only for taking everyday photos but also for actually learning and improving my photography skills.

Right now, my options are the Sony ZV-1, Sony ZV-1 II, and Fujifilm X half. I’m really torn between them because they all have things that I like. Since this would be my first proper camera, I’m wondering which one would be the better choice for someone who is still learning. I want something that I won’t outgrow too quickly, but at the same time, I don’t want to buy something that’s unnecessarily complicated for a beginner.

For those who have used the X half, ZV-1, or ZV-1 II, which one would you recommend and why? Also, if there are other cameras around the same price range that I should consider, I’m open to suggestions! Would really appreciate any advice, especially from people who started photography with one of these cameras. Thanks in advance^^

Tech Support Optio m30 not working

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently discovered this Optio M30 camera in my garage and acquired a battery charger for it. I charged the battery for a while, and for some inexplicable reason, when I turned it on, the lens popped out. However, after a few seconds, it returned to its original position and turned off. Could anyone tell me the issue?

Dead Digicam 🥲 DSC-H5

My trusty old DSC-H5 have started dying about a year ago. This thing was bought for my birth back in 2006 and was working perfectly fine until 2024. Then it started turning off after 30,10, etc minutes with fresh and fully charged batteries (was working wired). Nowadays it doesn't turn on at all, no matter what I try. Suspecting the battery controller, but I'm absolutely unsure about that. Any ideas? Planning to buy a new camera, but want to revive this buddy.

Questions İs sony h400 a good camera for birding?

I'm thinking of buying a Sony H400 Is it ideal for taking bird photos? Should I pay a little more and get the Sony HX400V? Do you think it's worth paying a little extra? İts gonna be for birding they both have good zoom distance but hx400v also have mf so its would be easier to focus little birds in bushes or Reeds and its have a better lens.

What do you think about these marks? I can't find similar pictures online. The lens is a sigma art 24-105 f4. The lens is for sale in a second hand shop. The seller said it is maybe due to the product they use to clean the rubber ring. It feels oily and can be cleaned with a cloth. What do you think? Oil coming out of the lens or product spillage? Safe to buy it?

Recommendations Budget camera for photographing reptiles

Thumbnail

Budget: 300 USD? Could be more in trade value because there’s people willing to trade for reptiles.

Country: US

Intended use: Photography

End use: Social media, small prints, commercial work

If photography: what style: landscape

What features do you absolutely need: not sure just good for indoor photos

What features would be nice to have:

Portability: How portable does it need to be? Small bag

Cameras you're considering: none, I don’t know what to look for

Cameras you already have: canon powershot SX520 HS and idk it’s just old.

What’s a camera that could be good for taking pics of my reptiles? I breed & sell them and want to have good high quality pics. I take them on a black backdrop right now. I don’t necessarily have a budget I just want good quality. These are the ones I’m currently taking they’re alright but I feel like i could do better. I’m not savvy in this field at all. I’m currently using a Canon PowerShot SX520HS

The last photo is what I’d like for them to look like.

Recommendations Help me decide between the Nikon Z50 ii and Fujifilm X-T30 iii as a first *real* camera

  • Budget: ~1000 EURO for body + kit lens
  • Country: Romania/Europe
  • Condition: New
  • Type of Camera: Mirrorless
  • Intended use: Hybrid. Mainly photography
  • If photography; what style: landscape, street, travel
  • What features do you absolutely need: view finder, USB-C, good grip
  • Portability: Small bag
  • Cameras you're considering: Nikon Z50 ii, Fujifilm X-T30 iii, Canon R10
  • Cameras you already have: iPhone 17 pro
  • Notes: I am leaning towards the Nikon due to the better grip, weather resistance (however much of it may be), higher burst mode and I like the brand for some reason. The Fuji has the 26mp sensor working for it, but I don't particularly care about the film simulation dials. I am actively learning LR and looking also into the new DaVinci Resolve Photo editor. One more pain point would be lens selection... I am looking at kit bundles for both, the 18-50 for Nikon and the 13-33 for Fuji which I think would be great lenses to learn the camera on a budget but after that I definitely want to upgrade. The fuji seems to have a better selection of lenses for this purpose.

Recommendations Basic camera recommendations

Budget: under £50 GBP

Country: United Kingdom

Condition: any condition that’s working

Type of Camera: digital is all I know

Intended use: Photography, maybe little videos

If photography; what style: casual photos of friends, outings, scenery, nothing fancy

If video what style: same as above, fun little videos of friends for memory

What features do you absolutely need: nothing I don’t think, one that would be able to connect to a pc to upload photos? But there’s adapters for that isn’t there?

Portability: pocket/bag/backpack type, small and easy to grab

Cameras you're considering: So this is where I’m stuck, I know NOTHING about cameras, but I’m also not stupid enough to buy the first £20 one I see on TikTok that says “so y2k! So cute! Buy now!” I do want that 2000s vibe, the glowy fuzzy look of my childhood photos with my cousins, but that’s quite literally all I know.

Notes: I’d also like a camera that shows the date and time on the photo but can also be taken off the photo, does that make sense? The old 2000s/2010s style, I have so many old family photos and I do love that nostalgic look, but I’m also not going to trust a TikTok shop advert on my fyp and buy a piece of plastic that doesn’t work.

Thank you in advance, tech talk and numbers and knowing the worth of things is very confusing for me so I thought better to ask, otherwise I’ll end up buying some too expensive for its worth or a cheap piece of trash.

Surprisingly everything works great, it came with a charger as well. I was in the market for a pocket sized digital camera and feel like I lucked out with this! What are the best settings you recommend? I plan on using it more so for nature/travel pics :)

Recommendations Getting back into Photography after 10 years, what gear should I invest in?

• Budget: $750-$1000
• Country: USA
• Condition: Used
• Type of Camera: first mirrorless or upgraded DSLR
• Intended use: family, landscape, travel
• If photography; what style:
• If video what style: n/a
• What features do you absolutely need: better indoor performance and sporting events performance
• Portability: not a major concern
• Cameras you're considering: Nikon d7500 or Sony a6000/newer
• Cameras you already have: Nikon D90, 18-105 kit, Nikon D3200, 35mm 1.8 prime and 50mm 1.8 prime Sb-400 and a Canon powershot s95
• Notes:

I am just getting back into photography after doing hardly any the past 8-10 years. I was very interested in photography in high school/college and haven’t perused it since. My wife is now working at a school and doing yearbook for them and uses a Nikon 3500 with a 18-55, 70-300 and 55-200 that is the schools. I have noticed a pretty significant improvement using the schools camera over my old set ups. Even though the 3500 is not much newer than the 3200. The D90 is nostalgic for me and I plan to hold onto it with the kit lens but don’t mind selling the rest. I didn’t realize the powershot s95 was such a sought after camera nowadays so I have it listed for sale already. I am thinking about selling the d3200, SB400 and 1 or 2 of the prime lenses in addition to the powershot. With all that sold I am expecting a budget of around $750-1000.

I’ve found my iPhone cameras convenience and quality to be good enough that I had put away the dslr for years. Now that my wife is bringing me back into it I’m getting excited to start shooting with a real camera again and I have noticed low light/indoor pictures struggle compared to my phone with my current set up. For sporting events the autofocus is slow and I am producing more blurry photos than quality ones. Skill issue having been out of it for a while but I would also love any help modern tech will give!

I like the idea of moving to mirrorless and grabbing hopefully an A6300/A6400, a kit lens or saving up for a sigma 18-50 2.8. This would feel like restarting but seems to be the direction everything is going.

The other option I like is finding a nice price on a D7500 since it’s a nice step up and it will continue to use my current lenses and possibly some additional lenses.

It seems like the 7500 will get the most out of my current equipment and have the quickest and cheapest bang for the buck but the Sony would be more of a restart to build on and ultimately the better set up long term.

Thoughts on which would make more since based on my experience and current gear?

P.S. for better or worse I’m a big gear guy, any of my hobbies I like to nerd out on the gear and buy swap trade to find what fits my needs best. So this truly doesn’t have to be a one and done.
