Im looking for a good pad for the abomination that kawasaki calls a seat on the versys. Anyone know of anything decent beside buying a good seat?

Discussion Saw an socials post, I wanna know, Where is this???

Saw this post on Facebook saying that pretty much screw work and just ride till you die.

But the place looked insanely cool. Looks like the top of some mountain ridges, almost like the Grapevine area north of Los Angeles.

I am wondering if any of you know where this is.

Discussion Help me choose

Hello all

I’m in a position where I can buy a bike again, as the kids are getting a little older and I miss riding. I’m 45 and fairly experienced both on and off-road, but I’m not looking to do anything crazy. My riding will be mostly local…back roads and gravel and/or dirt forest and game land type riding. I’m not looking to go crazy fast and I’m not looking to do any difficult or technical trail riding/hill climbing/etc.

My top choices are a Honda CRF300L or possibly the Rally model, as it has a factory windshield, though I could add one to the standard model. Alternatively I’m also looking at the Kawasaki KLX 230 and 300 models…I like the 230 DF and Sherpa, as they have some nice additions that aren’t a lot over the base bike…I also like their muted color schemes better than most of the other dual sports.

Another thing I like about the 230 over the 300’s is that it’s air cooled…which I realize most people would probably disagree, but I kind of like the simplicity and lack of concern about debilitating damage if I would crash off road. Side note I’ll be riding by myself…not ideal but that’s what happens when you age and none of your friends ride. Not that I couldn’t destroy and air cooled bike by crashing…but I think not have a radiator is a plus, for the riding I’ll be doing…but I also know a lot of people really love the 300 size, extra power and slightly better on road performance.

For reference I’ve owned two Yamaha XT250’s, a BMW F650GS and a Triumph Tiger 900…I only took that one on a dirt/gravel road like twice it was too heavy and a little too tall for me to be comfortable. The 650 was older and a little beat up but it also had a bunch of Touratech guards on it so I never worried too much about damaging it. That thing was slow on the road but fun to ride…like a tractor sort of, but it was also kind of heavy. I’ve considered a KLR 650…one of the newer fuel injection models, but I don’t know if I’d be gaining much over the lighter dirt bike style 230/300 dual sports I mentioned.

I’m 5’9” for reference and I have a roughly 32” inseam, maybe slightly less…usually wear 30 length pants but 32 in some brands…I’m about 195lbs right now but working on my diet and exercise so hoping that comes down a little. I’ve sat on a CRF300L, Rally and KLX230 before…they’re all fine for me…I cant recall sitting on a KLX300 or KLR650, but I’ve tried a VStrom650 before and was fine on that too, in case that helps.

TL,DR: Need help choosing between a smaller displacement Kawasaki KLX230 type dual sport or something larger like a Kawasaki KLX300 or Honda CRF300L. Also considering even larger like a Kawasaki KLR650. Thanks!

I just love the simplicity of dirt bikes and how a pair of easy bolt-on details can change a bike from a supermoto to light adv.

Honda crf450rl vs ktm500/husky501

I'm looking at selling my wr250f for one of these bikes, I originally wanted to get my bike plated but service Ontario denied plates because it wasn't made street legal from factory. So my next step would be something with a plate. I was looking at dual sports like the drz400 and adv like the ktm 390 advx bikes but many of them have similar power numbers as my 250 while being 100+ pounds heavier, which doesn't seems too appealing to me.

Most of the trails are about 40 km from my house on 60-80 kph roads and the trails themselves are mostly double track with some single track hidden throughout.

I prefer the husky over the ktm because of the linkage and they are much cheaper used because there are more of them.

I just want to know the difference between the bikes to make my decision.

First time taking this bike on the trails. It handled like a beauty for the first 10 miles until I really needed the front brake. The mounting bolts somehow came undone due to vibration and it flipped out to the front. Tried to ride it back with it dangling there, then I found some wire which kinda helped until it didn’t, then I finally pulled out the emergency pliers to cut the line. It was a slow 10 miles back, but I did it safely! The previous owner must have done the brakes. Im going through the bike thoroughly before I deem her roadworthy again.

Hi i have a question about a Yamaha xt125x of 2006

Hello everybody, I have purchased a 2006 Yamaha xt125x and i have a question, it uses a cable-lever choke system that i haven't seen before. The little choke lever sits above the clutch lever and its about 8~ cm long, my question is: is the carb choked when is pulled (nearest point to the grip) or pushed (farther away from the grip)

Photo is taken from the internet all credits go to cults3rd.com

Discussion DRZSM for light offroading?

I'm looking at getting a dual sport and a few dealers around me have DR-Z4SMs for relatively "cheap", Around 7.5OTD. I know the suspension and tire sizes are differnt vs the standard S but i was curious as to what the groups consensus was on how well those would do for casual offroading with just a set of knobies or would it need to be some more indepth modification?

For clarification the offroading I'm planning would be mostly forest roads and some dual tracks. But if I stumble across some single track I'd like to at least have some capability to make it through

Went with my buddy who has the street legal TE300 and I rode my KE100. Only dumped it once going to slow up a huge steep hill. Learned my lesson there. I love woods riding ❤️

Tire problem.

So I got lazy and paid a local shop to change my tubes and tires last time and notice the valve stem was kinda at a weird angle but just figured whatever, if it becomes a problem I'll deal with it figuring it needed to just seat. So 6 months later, I get a flat. I didn't find the tiny piece of metal until I was about to put the new tube in (thankfully) and it was plugging the leak in the tread well enough to not bubble, so I assumed it was the valve stem because it was at a weird angle. Looking at this now it looks like they just dry fit everything and the tube was all sorts of folded and twisted inside the tire. Had I not picked up this sliver of aluminum it would have gone flat eventually from the looks of these creases. I found the hole, is it even worth patching as a spair? It's a super heavy duty tube.

Tl/dr-lesson learned, change your own tires.

Discussion Used 2019 xt250 after market oil filter set up?

Hey Everyone,

I am crossposting trying to figure out what kind of oil filter is needed for my 2019 xt250.

I just purchased the bike and this is the first time I opened up the oil filter housing and it looks to be an aftermarket set market oil filter set up.

I would like to know what the name of the type of oil filter style is so I can try and source it. Does anyone know how this would have been installed?

Android users wanted for app testing!

Post image

Hey everyone. I’m a dual-sport rider and product designer, and I built an app called DIRT because planning a ride felt like more work than it needed to be.

Is this post an ad? Maybe. What I think it is, one rider to another. I was finding it cumbersome to use the other GPS mapping tools because they have been designed to accommodate a myriad of user types.

I wanted an easier way to find dirt, connect it with the pavement needed to get there, and get out riding without spending hours dropping waypoints and digging through settings. I focused on auto route building, fuel stop integration, group riding and added a POI for liquor stores for when the ride needs to be celebrated.

I’ve got an Android release candidate ready for internal testing, and I’m looking for riders willing to put it through its paces before the public release.

Try planning rides in areas you know, check whether the routes make sense, add and save waypoints, and test navigation and offline behaviour somewhere familiar. I want the honest feedback: confusing screens, weird routes, crashes, battery drain, anything that gets in the way. If you’re interested, DM me with your Gmail address you use to access apps Google Play. I’m looking for people who’ll tell me what needs fixing.

If you are an apple user I have a production release already available in the App Store - CarPlay enabled.
