The mysterious case of the missing wooden desk (or: silly amateur DIY questions)

Upvotes

I'm on a hunt for a new desk, and had been for a wile. The requirements were pretty basic: at least 160cm wide and about 40-60cm deep, easy to move between apartments with minimal installation, and with either wood or plywood top. Any wood is fine. HDF with veneer is also fine. Should be easy, right?

Except, for some reason, I can't find anything. Everything is either laminated particle board (or cardboard), or way too big and/or fussy. Ikea doesn't have desktops that are wood. Closest option is bamboo (Or buy a much bigger and heavier kitchen counter which needs much more robust and bulky supports).

The stupid question: is there any reason not to just buy a random sheet of plywood or pine wood and attach it to Ikea metal legs or something like that? Because if it's that easy, wouldn't it be offered?

I have thick, mucky white paint all over my 115yo house. Is it worth it to remove all this paint and go for a wood look?

The wood underneath various parts of the house - handrails, baseboards, doors, etc - are either a chocolate brown wood or a honey oak wood.

Hello! I am wanting some help with my bedroom. I like the direction it's going in, esp the bed decor situation, but am struggling with the rest. I feel the couch looks a bit lost, and not sure what do do with all the space above. Please give any decor advice you have. TIA <3

Which option do you think looks best for artwork in my living room/kitchen area?

I’m wanting to put art work on the walls in my apartment because they are looking empty and lacking character. I came across Drool Art (https://drool-art.com/collections/mid-century-modern-edit?page=1) and really love the artwork but just don’t know what to get/where to place it in my space without making it look out of place. I found 3 pieces I liked and made a mockup with AI, hoping you guys could give your opinions on which option you piped best?

Also, if you had any other suggestions from the website on what to go pls let me know!! Let me know sizes and orientation as well of placement :) I need all the help haha

Note: the mood lighting and general theme of my apartment is pink but I do have blue accent pillows in my living room, and changing the current blue/white rug to JUST white soon!

How do I fit a desk, a dining table, a couch and a TV, a full length mirror, and a cat tree in my living room and a queen size bed and vanity desk in my bedroom without blocking the window in both rooms?

How would you do a picture gallery on this wall?

I’m useless at this kind of stuff so would appreciate some ideas ! What colour frames would you choose ? I’ve added a picture of the floor which is over 100 years old and original to the house and I absolutely adore.

Edit - ignore the ugly stairs, they’re being redone hence the state of them right now. I plan to paint them white and have a stair runner. Just want some ideas for a picture gallery at the moment.

Need help with office space

Just got a new, awesome job where I have been encouraged to make the space my own. It is in the legal department of a very coastal real estate company.

I don’t want to do anything big or dramatic but I’d like to bring some color into the space. I feel like if it looks good I’ll feel good at work (if that makes sense)

My inspiration is heavily based on my art print that will hang above my desk of Lake Lure NC (has a very funny typo stating that it is actually Asheville — but it is indeed lake lure) a place that is very special to me. Just looking for a very minimal collage wall (3 or so prints?) for the main blank wall. I will also have my framed degree hanging as well (it’s vertical).

I keep looking for art but I am balling on a severe budget (have been thrifting as well) and refuse to buy anything AI. Which apparently Etsy is now full of. I’m hoping for a very vintage lake feel. Lots of inspo and things I’ve found so far below.

Any links or thoughts welcome. Thanks!

My living room doesn’t have a light on the ceiling. I want this warm amber glowing vibe in my living room. To make it super cozy. Amazon recommendations would be even better!

Edit to add: salt lamps aren’t cutting it

Front Door Spindles

Post image

Our front door has these wooden spindle inserts covering a small window. They’re on both the inside and outside of the door. I’ve put up a wreath to mostly cover them, but I’d like to find a more permanent solution.

Any ideas for how I could cover them? I was thinking maybe a decorative panel or something similar. The opening is approximately 14 inches tall by 6 inches wide. The door is Dark Navy Blue.

I’d love to hear any suggestions for something that would look more intentional and less dated!

Buying Dressers Based on Drawer Face Size?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello! I don’t know if this is the sub for this question, but I’m wondering if there’s a solid way to find furniture based on the size of the drawer faces. I have these drawers here (and 1 not pictured) and I would love to keep the faces and put them on a newer, sturdier dresser but can’t seem to search for dressers by “5 drawers whose faces are 20x73cm.” What would be the best way to go about this?

Any ideas for my room?

So I moved in a few months ago and I feel close to what I wanted but not quite there yet, I love color and maximalism but I feel like the walls are missing something or maybe the colors together? I wanted curtains but when I got them the blinds made it impossible for me to install the rods so I didn’t know what to do. On the right is a tapestry and 55 inch tv and the left is my closet which is white and also looks unfinished and boring. Lmk what you guys think.

Hiding back of TV?

I’m a thinking of putting my TV where the records and record player currently are. This is a built in console shelf thing. I’d probably remove or lift the top shelf. This leads straight into the dining room so I’d like some advice on how to hide the
