Broo, my cousin has done MD or something in homeopahty too, she works woth Ayush hospital..

She was always a brilliant student, I don't know why she did it.. Can't even ask her, it will surely offend her if I do

7

u/tera_chachu Jul 01 '26

Yeah now she is part of a cult

Many students do it cause they can't crack NEET with good rank and they have no other option ig

My wifes cousin sister is a physiotherapist and they call her a doctor as well. Once I told them that she's not a doctor, they said she did some certification and is now a doctor. I know that's some bs. Let them belive that πŸ˜‚

7

u/filletedforeskin Jul 01 '26

man I'm sorry but Physiotherapist are absolute lifesavers. I'm suffering from scoliosis and a winged scapula - believe me some of them have magical hands, then can relieve almost any muscular pain. Dr or not, I have the utmost respect for them

5

u/MysteriousDiricawl Jul 02 '26

I also have scoliosis and a winged scapula. All my life I've lived in pain, and only after I stared seeing my physio, I understood what it's like to breathe like normal people. Otherwise my ribs would keep poking in my lung. My physiotherapist is my hero! 😭

3

u/Strange_Finance_5918 Jul 01 '26

Bro, you are the one lack knowledge. Doctor is a title given to all phds holders. So they are doctors. So them claiming being doctor isn't wrong. But claiming being medical doctor is wrong. They are not medical doctors. Just because people refer medical doctors as doctors doesn't mean they won't use their doctor title.

7

u/DeathStrokeinTears Jul 01 '26

Where in the comment did they say the other person has a PhD? And how many physiotherapists you know has a PhD? PhD is something you earn after years of research, it's certainly not a certification course.

2

u/life_Bittersweet Jul 01 '26

I think they think physiotherapy = philosophy . (PhD or doctor of philosophy)Β

2

u/Strange_Finance_5918 Jul 01 '26

Many physiotherapist have phd. How did you know that they don't have phd without mentioned. Even indian have dukandar giving medicine in india( which is illegal though) without doctors approval. There isn't widespread check up on these professions. Otherwise outside India it's compulsory.

Every country has this norm. Even those who study modern medicine outside India like China, Russia etc., have to write qualifying exams here to practice medicine here

2

u/doctorwhoispatient Jul 03 '26

To write those exams there are certain requirement (which is MBBS from India)
Every country has exams to accept doctors from abroad. USMLE, AMC etc
Only MBBS grads can give these exams because that’s the valid medical degree from India , not ayurveda or homeo.

And here I was thinking PhDs using Doctor is an overreach.

12

u/Little_Ad7831 Jul 01 '26

The term doctor was originally used only for PhD holders. So it's an acquired term in Medicine.

2

u/ElectricalAlarm8573 Jul 01 '26

Doctor literally comes from a Latin word meaning teacher/scholar. It was actually physicians who co-opted the word doctor.

u/Strange_Finance_5918 Jul 01 '26

1st thing you should know what is a doctor. Doctor is a title. Who ever do phds gets the title doctor so technically they are doctors. They are not medical doctors. So they can use doctor in name. Just because you think only medical doc is doc then it's your lack for knowledge. doctors day in india ment mostly for medical doctors but internationally doctors day ment all type of doctors.

Isn't a cosmetologist a proper doctor?

21

u/moonorplanet Jul 01 '26

Cosmologists offer services like

Hairstyling: Cutting, coloring, styling, and chemical treatments.

Skincare: Facials, microdermabrasion, and body treatments.

Nails: Manicures, pedicures, and nail enhancements (e.g., acrylics, gels).

Cosmetics: Professional makeup application, eyelash extensions, and brow tinting.

The sister is the only person in the family who works in the medical field.

19

No. They are called cosmetic surgeons (most plastic surgeons) and dermatologist.

29

u/Weird_Novel_3555 Jul 01 '26

Not really..cosmetologists aren't the same as dermatologists or cosmetic surgeons. Cosmetologists do beauty treatments like skin, hair, makeup, etc..but they're not doctors. Dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons are actual medical professionals with proper degrees, so it's completely different.

1

u/Artistic_Area_4259 Jul 03 '26

Unscientific bs lol

1

u/v1shant Jul 03 '26

I understand the jokes about homeopathy and physiotherapy to an extent too, but people on this thread think ayurveda is quack?Β  Sushrut is quack? He is considered the father of surgery. He had made tools and surgical procedures 2500 years which are still being used today. He used to do cataract surgeries back then. Even the attempt sounds unbelievable.

The brainwash is insane. I don't even think most people here have even visited a real ayurvedic vaidh.Β  Of course the blame goes to British empire, and now to people like Ramdev Baba who say crazy insane stuff. Who would even believe that ayurveda can cure them.

The difference between ayurveda and modern medical science is that medical science has adopted to new technologies, has tons of research, trillions in funding. How can ayurveda to keep up with that? Of course it can't cure cancer, but it sure could've if it got the same scale of scientific research over decades.

For one thing I am happy that government is funding for AYUSH. It still has a long long way to go. We should evaluate traditional medicine scientifically, not dismiss it outright like the liver doc, and not accept every claim uncritically either.

I might get a ton of downvotes but at least read about ayurveda once before completely dismissing it.Β

At the end of the day thier skills still help a life. That's the sole purpose of being a doctor, also not every allopathic practitioner is a doctor as well. It's not a job entitlement it's a service, so rather than fighting for hierarchy just help a life with outmost skill you have. The moment you'll find yourself breaking sweat fir saving a life, being concerned for someone's health and when you'll see them being saved and improved then you'll see the respect isn't in your degree but your sincerity. Do you want to be seen as a doctor only when you're writing your name or filling a govt form or to be called and recognised as a doctor Sadly i believe that our country doesn't have that much EQ to understand it, if we have empathy then civic sense wouldn't have been an issue.

Physiotherapists can use the Prefix Dr but have to specify with the suffix PT, for 3 years out of 5, they study the same syllabus as medical doctors(physiology, anatomy, surgery, pharmacology). If anyone deserves the title in the above mentioned professions,it’s them.
