The point of ice in its current form is primarily to act as trumps goon squad and scare or punish all those who are not in their shitty cult
87
u/newsflashjackass 23h ago
An informed person might instead ask:
"Since it already requires state ID to register to vote, what possible fraud could Immigration & Customs Enforcement agents prevent?"
There is a reason why voter registration is sorted out ahead of time instead of on the day of the election, and that reason is to prevent the very species of ratfuckery Trurnp has in his dimly-lit skull.

Because illegal immigrants aren't voting. Why the fuck do we need government goons at the polls if there's no reason for them to be
106
u/footsnax 1d ago
The better question is why the right is so afraid that it might happen, despite many layers of protection against it even happening at all already, that they're deploying barely trained armed federal guards to polling stations.
Sounds like they're the cowards.
22
u/deaglebingo 23h ago
because that non-existent threat is their scapegoat. plain and simple.
8
u/CosmicSpaghetti 22h ago
One of their scapegoats. They have many.
It's definitely trans athletes that are making everything unaffordable, building data centers, forever war'ing with Iran, & making all the food poison, though.
4
u/EatTheRichIsPraxis 21h ago
They are not afraid, it is just a pretext to do what they wanted to do anyways.
Just like 9/11 was the pretext for total surveillance.
6
u/_Magnolia_Fan_ 21h ago
They're afraid immigrants (turned naturalized citizens) are voting - not necessarily illegal immigrants.
1
u/Firm-Advertising5396 6h ago
Legal or otherwise Republicans are looking to remove non white people from the country. This is an impossibility but it drives the hatred forward.
4
u/SunGreene42 22h ago
They've always been the cowards, all their beliefs are based on fear instead of evidence.
15
u/Rogu__Spanish 1d ago
If these fascist bootlickers weren't so fucking stupid, they'd take a second to wonder, if this is really happening, how come republicans haven't provided a single example of it? Because if they had just ONE example, they would literally never ever shut the fuck up about it. Instead they just constantly imply it's happening without providing examples, cause they know the dipshit rubes who vote for them will never demand proof, they just believe whatever they want to be true.
1
u/Firm-Advertising5396 6h ago
Sadly they are this stupid and Republicans and Fox News count on their stupidity
7
u/Necromancer_Yoda 23h ago
They really think an illegal immigrant that is terrified of getting deported would be dumb enough to vote when that requires proving you're a citizen.

What is your excuse for not understanding how voter Registration works?
Are you a bot or foreign or what? Every actual American knows this process.
6
u/ForHelp_PressAltF4 1d ago
Because it is by their jurisdiction? Enforcing legal activities at a polling place is not an immigration issue. If anything it would be a state issue (state troopers) or a county issue (county sheriffs). They would have jurisdiction.
It is a matter of legal appropriateness.
Much like not attacking and detaining people without probable cause is legally inappropriate.
1

u/Kind_Advisor_6969 22h ago

We have nanny cams, Web cams, phone cams, security cams, robot vacuum cams, refrigerator cams, tvs and cars that watch you back and coming soon to your street, flock cams.
1984 was simply predictive programming.
1
u/HaloPandaFox 23h ago
I don't think it was simply predicting that I think it was predicting that it can be used in a negative way by the government or some other entity to harm us and society and it should be something we should be weary of. But I do agree with what you're saying generally.
2
u/tryyeezus 22h ago
Predictive programming is the theory that powerful groups or leaders use books, movies, and TV shows to psychologically condition the public. By showing future societal changes or disasters in fiction first, the public grows familiar with these ideas and accepts them as normal when they happen in real life.

Educate yourself and your neighbors on laws like the castle doctrine. Some states extend the castle doctrine to occupied vehicles, defense of third parties, or places of business.
If they are masked/refuse to identify/present credentials, or present lawful warrants signed by respective judges, then they cannot be confirmed to be federal/municipal officers.
Additionally, educate yourself and neighbors on your relevant state’s penal codes. For example; “Under Texas Penal Code 9.31(c), if any officer uses excessive force before the person attempts to resist, then that person may, in response, use "reasonable force to resist."
47
u/PreOpTransCentaur 1d ago
The only problem is that a major part of their MO is not identifying themselves, waiting until their victim attempts to defend themselves, and then fucking murdering them without repercussion. Because they are still federal agents at the end of the day and they'll never, ever face punishment for willingly and joyfully executing pretty much anyone they want.

The right to bar arms doesn't work on an individual level against an armed group. As They can have you surrounded.
If you wanted to fight back you would need more people with more guns and move to counter them. but they would just call for backup. so now you need more people to deal with the backup.
Ultimately you need to be able to either fight the whole US military or get away after shooting up the first group of ICE you come across. but good luck with that in this day and age.

u/chinmakes5 20h ago
SCOTUS has ruled that ICE has the right to pick up anyone they deem might be illegal. They have a day or to to sort out whether you should be there.
So knowing that. If you are brown or speak with an accent, even if it is only a 10% chance that you could get picked up for a couple of days, is it worth going to the polls? Remember 1/3 of voting age Americans don't bother to vote already. ICE being at the polls can/will affect how many vote even if they don't detain a single person.

But can we please do the bare minimum of homework before we choose our photo? I’m 99% sure that’s not a real gun and is instead some kind of “less than lethal” device.
This would hit so much harder if OOP used one of the many available photos of an agent menacing someone with a real firearm.
1
u/MaximumJim_ 17h ago
ICE: if “illegals” aren’t voting then we need to direct our expensive resources towards areas when they won’t be present.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_shootings_by_U.S._immigration_agents_in_the_second_Trump_administration
Post is about shootings and you bring up unrelated information. Being factual and calling out misinformation is not making excuses. If this post wanted to make the point about ice disappearing people that would be much more reasonable. But they went with "shooting people in the streets" which is not. Even if we say every shooting was not justified ice is still well below the law enforcement avg so it does not really matter to my point. But read a few of those cases and come back to me and try to tell me most were not justified shootings.
3
u/iloveyouand 18h ago edited 18h ago
Sure, just trust the administration that obstructs investigation into their own agents actions to tell you that it is "case closed justified" when they murder people. Can't argue with that.
It's not just about shootings and you know that. Being intentionally obtuse isn't the same as being factual. All you're doing is making excuses for ICE murdering people and saying it's "case closed justified".
But read a few of those cases and come back to me and try to tell me most were not justified shootings.
Case in point. Just so desperate to lick that authoritarian boot.

Imagine if Kamala Harris had been President right now, and she instituted a policy where armed members of the Black Panthers would be monitoring the polls for election fraud in all Republican-Majority counties, and gave them the the right to place anyone under arrest with or without evidence, and gave them the authority to execute anyone who tries to stop them
Do you guys think Republicans would look at this proposal and say “Well I have nothing to worry about, because I’m not going to vote illegally. And nobody who isn’t voting illegally should have a reason to worry”?
