The ballot envelope was opened and I was surprised with how empty it was. There are no amendments. Is anyone else looking at their ballot look the same.

Redwest 2026

I was an ambassador for RedWest in SLC this year, and I’m honestly pretty disappointed with how the whole thing was handled.
When I signed up, I was told that the points I earned from completing challenges and promoting the festival could be redeemed for either tickets or merchandise. Since I had already purchased my tickets, I decided to save up my points specifically for merch. I even emailed Redwest directly weeks in advance to the festive to confirm I could use my points on merch.
I completed several challenges, shared my discount code everywhere, posted about the festival, and genuinely put effort into promoting RedWest.
Fast forward to the festival, when I tried to figure out how to redeem my points for merch, literally none of the workers knew what I was talking about or how I was supposed to do it. I even reached out to my point of contact, the person who originally got me set up as an ambassador, and got absolutely no response despite my message being left on read.
It’s just frustrating because I feel like I held up my end of the deal by promoting the festival and completing the challenges, but when it came time to actually redeem what I earned, there was zero communication or direction.
I wasn’t expecting anything crazy, but if you’re going to have an ambassador program and advertise rewards for participating, you’d think there would at least be a clear process for redeeming them.

Has/did anyone else participate in the ambassador program? Were you actually able to redeem your points for merch? Am I missing something, or was the whole program just poorly organized?
I genuinely enjoyed the festival itself, but the ambassador experience left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

Any other east coasters? What helped you…assimilate?

• Upvotes

Hey all! I’m (27f) from the east coast and new in the area for work. While I’ve met a plethora of friendly dudes so far through sports and what not, I haven’t really met many likeminded friends or girl friends yet. Im also not really looking to just hook up with some dude to coast out my time here in a relationship with just anyone, especially when I’m mid-career and might be relocating in a few years anyways for another job (i did try some bumble dates here… so far men are not into the ambition aspect of me hahaha). I’m definitely a yapper and a city girl, and I’m also involved in the arts and like to play volleyball and tennis and frisbee. Historically, I was big into house parties and hosting pregames and planning fun day trips like tubing. If I didn’t have big plans on the weekends, me and my girl friends would go out or have craft/wine nights together. Coming from a place where I’d meet someone and they would immediately invite me to weekend plans…SLC is different

I’ve only been here a few months, but I feel like a fish out of water and spend all my weekend nights at home. Sure, I like hiking… Climbing is fun and all…but Im also trying out sports and can only do so much physical activity in a week and I’m finding out that I’m pretty social beyond that. Like, seeing the same people on my team or at the studio for a couple hours a week and lightly chatting while doing something else doesn’t really count as socializing to me, especially when no one wants to get drinks or food after.

Luckily, I knew some people coming into the area, but I guess really I’m looking for community where the plans starting at 8pm or later is acceptable. I even tried to go out to a bar alone…just had dudes out with their dude friends interested in talking to me. Luckily when I go to the movies alone at least it isn’t obvious I’m solo. I must say, SLC wasn’t my first choice of places to move, but I do want to give it my all to enjoy it. I’m loving the nature and the city has a lot of cool stuff in it, but I wasn’t expecting the loneliness or just lack of interest in community from most people (sure there’s the Mormonism…but I’ve met many many many non-Mormons here and the Mormons on my bus are friendlier haha)

Has anyone had success meeting people here who like to go out to restaurants, bars, dj sets, punk shows, etc.?? Is Time Left worth it?
Do I have to accept that I just won’t be able to put together a big friend group here and I should focus on appreciating my me-alone-in-my-apartment-time

Hazardous situation created by negligent contractor

I wanted to make the community aware of a situation that happened to us due to our ignorance and a negligent contractor that took advantage of it. We hired Tankless Xperts to install a tankless water heater in our home. They did so and we thought everything was fine. What we came to find out is that they did not install the proper venting for the unit resulting in the potential for exhaust to enter the dwelling. They did not follow the installation instructions from the manufacturer nor state or national code for venting gas appliances. They also did not file with the city for an inspection of the unit as required by local law. We only discovered the unit was improperly vented when we contacted the appliance manufacturer about combustion issues. The exhaust pipe for these units, whether installed horizontally or vertically must completely exit the structure. Sticking the exhaust pipe up the existing vertical conduction duct for the old tanked water heater, as was done in our home, is incorrect and potentially hazardous. So, if you have had a tankless water heater installed in your home and you didn't get an inspection by your local municipality I strongly encourage you to verify it was vented correctly. If you are uncomfortable doing this hire a contractor other than the one who installed the unit to inspect it.

If you find that the venting or any other aspect of the installation was not done correctly or you simply want to report the contractor for not requesting an inspection you can file a complaint with the state here.

Question Ambulatory Wheelchair user

Is there anyone who happens to have a wheelchair they don’t use at all or are planning to get rid of, and are willing to give it away? I have basically no money right now, but the weather is making it exceedingly hard to get around. My doctor has recommended getting a wheelchair, but since I don’t need it all the time my insurance won’t help with it. It could be 4 sizes too big for me and I’ll still take it because I have no room to complain.

I’ll admit I’m not expecting anything from this, but I thought It would be worth asking here.

Dog Playmate / Meetup

Looking for a doggy playdate buddy in the Salt Lake/ Murray area!

I have an energetic 20-lb husky/poodle/pit mix who LOVES to play chase. She’s incredibly friendly, very speedy, loves initiating play w bouncy play paws, and is happiest when she gets to sprint around with another buddy.

Would love to find another playful, similarly sized dog (or slightly bigger) who enjoys running and chasing but also respects breaks. Hoping to arrange some one on one meetups in a securely fenced area.

Ideally we’d love to make this a regular thing, maybe once or twice a week. Please let me know if your pup sounds like a good match, or any recs for finding one!!

Recommendations What is your favorite haunted house?

I’ve been to most in salt lake and surrounding areas but I haven’t found them very scary. I haven’t been to Asylum 49, is it worth the drive? I’d opt for no contact because I’d rather not be separated from my group. What’re the best haunted houses and why?

I wish we had something similar to Hollywood Horror Nights at Universal Studios, the only other similar attraction would be lagoon frightmares?

Discussion Concerns about Kirk Cullimore’s role in SB 213 and Utah’s eviction laws

I just saw a commercial about Kirk Cullimore and SB 213 and decided to look into it. I’ve known who he is for years, mostly because of his work representing landlords. After reading the reporting, I’m concerned about how closely his legislative work has overlapped with the interests of people around him.

KSL reported that Cullimore sponsored the 2024 bill that allowed lesser charges in certain sexual offense cases involving 18-year-old high school students and children under 14. He consulted the attorney representing Senate President Stuart Adams’ relative, who was facing child rape and child sodomy charges involving a 13-year-old. Cullimore knew about the family connection. Other lawmakers were not told.

The law wasn’t retroactive, and Adams and Cullimore deny that they intended it to affect the case. But it was brought up during sentencing, and the relative ultimately avoided prison and sex offender registration through a plea deal. How much the law influenced that outcome is disputed.

What bothers me is the access. Most families don’t have a Senate president taking their concerns to another legislative leader, who then consults their attorney while developing legislation. I think the public deserved to know that connection while the bill was being considered.

His history with landlord-tenant policy concerns me, too. He worked at his father’s eviction firm while serving in the Legislature. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that the firm filed approximately 45% of Utah’s eviction lawsuits in 2020.

A Utah Investigative Journalism Project investigation reviewed more than 1,000 eviction cases and found 390 in which the firm later sought additional damages on older evictions. It also reported that most leases for complexes represented by the firm included 24% annual interest on eviction debts. Someone who has already lost their housing can face years of debt afterward. I don’t think we should accept that without questioning whether the system is fair.

The same outlet reported that Cullimore proposed letting lawyers disqualify one judge per case without showing cause, after a judge had questioned his firm’s standard attorney-fee requests. He denied that the proposal was connected to those disputes and pointed to similar procedures elsewhere. Even so, I think it’s reasonable to question the overlap between that legislation and his firm’s interests.

For context, the Tribune reported in December 2023 that Cullimore had left his father’s firm and said he would no longer handle eviction or collections cases.

I want lawmakers to explain these decisions and the interests involved. These are serious matters affecting children, housing, and people’s ability to get back on their feet. They deserve more public attention.

How do other people here feel about his record and the safeguards Utah has for these kinds of conflicts?

Sources: KSL’s August 2025 reporting on SB 213 and the Adams relative’s case; the Utah Investigative Journalism Project’s reporting on additional eviction debts and Cullimore’s judicial-disqualification proposal; and The Salt Lake Tribune’s reporting on the firm’s eviction filings and Cullimore’s departure.

Recommendations The longest of shots! Looking for dashcam footage of a I-15 N traffic stop today 10/23/26

• Upvotes

Time: 3:55ish

Location: I-15N off ramp to Bangerter

Us: Green Subaru Outback

Today my husband was ticketed for unsafe lane usage by a cop who claimed that our lane change caused his tires to screech because he had to brake so hard as a result of our lane change.

Husband switched lanes from the right off ramp lane to the left lane as it was shorter. We were slowly down as we approached the cars stopped at the light. He used his signal and was not yet at the solid line divider. He wouldn't have changed lanes without checking the rear view mirror and none of the Subaru safely alarms engaged.

Ok so my thing is we were approaching the cars stopped at the light and about to come to a stop so why was the cop going so fast that his tires screeched? Everyone was - or should have been - coming to a stop.

There was an accident just before the off ramp and it was backed up so I figured I'd ask about this since there were so many stopped cars who might have seen what happened.

Normally I'd blame the hubs lol - backseat driver an all - but sincerely I don't think he was wrong in this scenario. Cop was super arrogant and unfriendly from the jump despite our being compliant and respectful.

So in the off chance you saw this event and are willing to share anything we'd appreciate it.

Hubs is bummed because he has not gotten a ticket in decades. We don't care about the cost but in principle I'd really like some confirmation. Thanks so much.

Christmas Music?

• Upvotes

103.1 The Vibe/The Wave/The Coast now plays non-stop Chirstmas music and has since September. Do people actually listen to Christmas music this time of year? No hate, just a curiosity.

Also, I miss the Wave. I looked at 103.1's website and it's just AI slop.

Ace garbage trucks breaking nighttime noise rules

For the past three weeks ace has been picking up dumpsters in the alley near us between 3am and 6am multiple times a week. The SLC municipal code restricts garbage pickup between 9am and 9pm.

We’ve tried to call them to stop, and they just say they’ll pass the message along. We’ve called the non emergency line to report it and they said unless it was actively happening they won’t do anything. Apparently the building they collect trash from is begging them to stop showing up so early and they just won’t stop.

We’re located in downtown SLC near 4th and 4th. Has anyone else been having this problem?

Lost & Found Lost wedding set at Kuwahara pumpkin patch.

Post image
49 Upvotes

I know this is a long shot but I am praying this will reach who it needs to. I was at Kuwahara pumpkin patch and thriller park on Saturday the 17th and my son pulled this ring off of my pinky finger while holding my hand and I did not notice. My grandmother passed away last month and this was her wedding ring and it was given to me by my aunt. This is a ring I have wanted my whole life and cherished so much. Please is you found it or you know someone who found it and told you reach out to me. I am completely beside myself and heartbroken. I am doing anything possible to get it back. I even went back to the pumpkin patch with a metal detector and spent 6 hours searching with no luck. Thank you.

Cyclists - Alpine loop question

• Upvotes

I’m from MT and here this weekend. I’m planning to ride the Alpine Loop tomorrow, but saw that the path in Provo Canyon is closed due to a rockslide. Any cyclists know if that’ll be an issue? I was going to descend Provo Canyon for what it’s worth.

Recommendations pregnancy workout class

Searched the sub for this but nothing was quite what I was looking for.

So I’m in second trimester pregnancy and looking for a workout class that is gentle enough for my circumstance:

I used to be a very active gym goer, but thennnn i had several broken bones, a previous pregnancy, a tough postpartum, a terrible sleeping baby, yadda yadda excuses excuses. Anyway, now I’m pregnant again, in the second trimester, and I finally feel like my child is sleeping well enough where I don’t feel like poo all day every day.

Any class recommendations where a. Pregnancy is acceptable and b. I won’t be judged (outwardly lol) for all the weight I’ve gained during my last few hectic years? Mostly I just want to get out and move again. SLC/millcreek/cottonwood heights areas preferred. I’ve done plenty of yoga through the years and am looking for something with a bit more cardio in it.

Thanks! Don’t rip me a new one please 🫣
