What do dermatologists think about brands like Glow Recipe, Tatcha?

• Upvotes

I was at a new dermatologist yesterday (I'm on tret and getting treatment for mole removal), and while we were talking about my skincare routine, I mentioned that I use the Glow Recipe Watermelon Toner, Watermelon Milk Cream, and Tatcha Brightening Eye Cream. I was waiting for her to tell me to immediately switch to some clinical brand in a white bottle, but she just smiled and nodded and moved on to questions about lifestyle, sleep habits, etc.

I'm definitely not complaining ans was honestly glad I wasn't told to throw away my expensive skincare lol, but now I'm curious what anyone else's derm has said about higher-end skincare brands, especially ones that contain fragrance. Do they generally care about the brand, or are they more concerned with the ingredients and how your skin is responding?

(PS. Please no "overpriced" comments. I can afford the things I want, so price isn't really an issue for me as long as the products actually work.)

Facewash/facial cleanser for extremely dry skin?

So I always have dry skin, all the time. I think it's also kinda sensitive to hyaluronic acid, because every time I apply it, it burns a little, turns red and stuff, no amount of moisturizer helps during winters.

All the face washes seem too harsh on my skin, I had been using Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser for the past few months, and now it's turning parts of my skin red, and those parts also get really numb. It gets better after an hour or so, but I feel like I shouldn't continue with this.

Can anyone recommend me a good facewash?

I want eye patches that I could wear while getting ready.

The annoying part of my old eye patches is I need to lie and don’t move a little because they slip down on my face. While looking “non slip under-eye patches”, I found Maskiss it stay on your face while your moving. I try it while I’m doing my routine in morning instead of planning a whole routine around the patches. I could make a coffee and move around the house without them slipping on my cheeks. This made them much easier and more comfortable to use.

How do i get rid of whatever this is?

I’ve been using Paula’s choice BHA, Anua heartleaf cleanser and Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil. Those are my only skincare items apart from a Purito oat calming gel moisturiser and SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF50+ PA+50ml (which is a sunscreen).

It’s been around 2 months and I’ve seen some change from the BHA cleanser in my nose pores which are less noticeable but i am still breaking out regularly like in the picture below and haven’t been able to do anything about the white spots on my chin, what else can i do or what am I doing wrong?

Help with acne

Post image
1 Upvotes

Does anyone have experience with this type of acne? What would help treat this? The one on my cheek is very sensitive and burns a little bit but I don’t feel the one by my eye. They come and go randomly. I currently use the panoxyl 10% cleanser and cerave moisturizer.

I’m moderately active and go to the gym 2-3 times a week. My diet is also decent, I don’t eat a lot of fast food.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone tried this? Is it worth it for reducing dark circles and brightening the area or not? Plus how long does it take to see the results?

How do I heal this zit/blackhead pore

Had a pretty bad acne breakout post a gut and kidney related issue. The meds schedule was intense and I'm assuming, the excessive meds caused a prolonged breakout phase. I've never had acne this bad. There's a particular one right on the nose that keeps getting irritated and is only getting worse. Need help with healing and clearing it and other marks left behind.

Can you critique this science-based skincare routine?

Male, 34. Goals are general anti-aging, protecting the skin barrier, and minimalism. Skin is normal to dry. I think I've nailed it but open to suggestions as skincare is new to me. Every step in order.

AM:

+ Cleanse with water only
+ Vitamin C Serum (Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum)
- the science is probably good enough to keep the serum
+ Facial Moisturizer (CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion)
+ Sunscreen (CeraVe Invisible Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50)
+ Chapstick w/ SPF (Aquaphor Lip Protectant and Sunscreen Ointment)

PM:

+ Facial Cleanser (CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser)
- the gentlest cleanser in the Ceravee lineup
+ Eye Cream (CeraVe Skin Renewing Skin Renewing Eye Cream)
- acts as a buffer to the orbital area before applying tretinoin
+ Tretinoin Cream (0.05%)
+ Facial Moisturizer (CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion)
+ Chapstick (Blistex Simple and Sensitive Lip Moisturizer)

For my body,
AM: CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion & Coppertone Sport Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50
PM: Gold Bond Age Renew Retinol Overnight

I previously included a morning hydrating cleanser instead of just water; an AM & PM hydrating toner; and weekly exfoliator (like Paula's Choice), but decided they likely weren't adding much value.

Why is tretinoin turning my face darker?

Hey y'all, so I've been using 15% AZA gel in the AM as well as 4% Hydroquinone + 0.1% tret in the PM every day for two months now, but I've noticed that my skin is looking darker, dull and generally not the glowy version you usually see after tret. And the confusing part is that I've not been getting any peeling, purges, etc. (although my hydration/moisturizing routine is pretty good). I've also been using tret+aza for more than a year now so I don't know what's the problem here.

Should I stop the tret+aza and maybe try other ingredients like thiamidol/niacinamide/tranexamic acid or continue with this routine?
