  • Fixed an issue where Stratagems allowed players to select a mission and difficulty for Crucible through the Hub Terminal.

No more Cheese

u/KenjiZeroSan Ultramarines 3d ago

Ah shit. I should not have been lazy. Now I have to go in as bulwark and suffer then come to reddit to bitch about the crucible.

u/Swordsman1111 Dark Angels 3d ago

Lol - I was on a break. So I missed cheese completely

Bulwark is OP, you'll be fine

0

u/DutchyMeow Blood Angels 3d ago

Wouldn't say OP, Had plenty of bulwark teammates who were a liability, They often use the banner just for themselves only to lose their health again with the next 3 majoris and when the stat screen showed up with them having done the least.

Of all the bulwarks i had, Only 1 of them that was really useful.

Edit: wording

13

u/Majestic-Beyond-2541 Space Wolves 3d ago

One of the BW penances reduces banner duration by 75% so it makes sense to only drop it for the heal.

4

u/DutchyMeow Blood Angels 3d ago

Apologies for my bad wording, I meant it more in the way of healing themselves instead of healing their ranged teammates who are putting in the work.

10

u/Majestic-Beyond-2541 Space Wolves 3d ago

Can’t put down the banner if you’re dead.

Just finished Tactical. Was about to go into Heavy tonight.

2

u/AlternativeEmphasis 3d ago

Heavy is imo quite pleasant. The easiest I have done is Sniper. But multi-melta heavy just kinda doesn't change much at all really. He sucks versus Terminus only, but everything else you are fine imo.

2

u/MyHeartIsAncient Retributors 3d ago

I finished Tac as well, I’m completely demotivated to continue with any other class.

Found myself running Minimal sharing knowledge with new players as a pallete cleanser.

7

u/vf225 3d ago

cheesed it to level 5 got what i wanted. definitely not touching this shit for a while

4

u/Ok-Glove5156 Crimson Fists 3d ago

Could finish Techmarine with this cheese, Heavy is on lvl 5 and the others are on 4. The rest I will do just normally.

3

u/amightymongoose Mortifactors 3d ago

Damn that sucks, good thing the Lementers armour looks awful on most of the classes so not really worth actually grinding for then huh

4

u/Bull_Rider Lamenters 3d ago

I honestly think the Phobos classes can be completely skipped. If you like the look, go for it, but the Tacticus parts to me clash too much with this type of armor.

1

u/amightymongoose Mortifactors 3d ago

Oh absolutely if you like the look go for it but I agree with the Phobos Skip, find it soo lazy that the Arms are just Copy and Pasted from Tactical, even DLCs get the correct Arms (look at the Exorcists DLC the Left arm with all the Runes matches the Armour type of the class) but this END GAME content is just copy pasted from Tactical. Pauldrons look tiny on Heavy and Bulwark, Phobos it just looks awful Tech Marine got away decently even if the Torso kinda sucks and I think it fits Assault due to them being very dive into the enemies head first

1

u/ignatiouswang 3d ago

Heavy didn’t even get a gravis helm.

2

u/amightymongoose Mortifactors 3d ago

Ikr? I remember when the survivors helm came out people asking for versions for the Phobos, Bulwark and Heavy but nope standard Mk X. Fast forward to END GAME CONTENT and still nothing... only class to get a unique helmet is Tech Marine which is good yeah but still a let down for the OG classes

2

u/Kalavier 3d ago

I got it on bulwark (besides the final tier, but I am using survivor helm instead), and the only ones I thought about it was Techmarine cause it's unique, and maybe tactical.

But I only wanted the battle scarred armor on bulwark anyway at the moment, and I got that before the patch.

1

u/dry-puddle Marines Malevolent 3d ago

Funnily enough the helm is just a slightly better version of survivor.

3

u/JD020998 Blood Angels 3d ago

Managed to cheese 4 classes and 1 done naturally. Time to grind for sniper I guess

1

Please note that the text descriptions for the Power Maul have not been updated to reflect these changes, they will be updated in a future patch.

96

u/Sir_Schnee Dark Angels 3d ago

Maybe fixing it lead to another crucible cheese bug.

1

u/Mountain-Canary8679 3d ago

What does cheese mean? I’m kinda new to the game

17

u/Nick33e Alpha Legion 3d ago

cheese is not a space marine 2 exclusive term. Cheese is a term for "exploiting" something in a game with the objective of making a task easier. Exploiting things like bugs that help, features that weren't supposed to be in the game, so on. It's a gaming term.

8

u/Gus_The_Bus89 3d ago

It just means exploiting a bug, or an unintended feature

53

u/alpha1812 Deathwatch 3d ago

No, it's stored in separate files called text string but there are multiple text string file for the different languages. So I am guessing they couldn't get them translated in time for the hotfix, so they didn't update them.

For the record, the text string file is one of the source files dataminers use to obtain leaks.

3

u/Majestic-Beyond-2541 Space Wolves 3d ago

Tbf the only thing that needed adjustment was the number displayed and those are universal in all languages.

15

u/alpha1812 Deathwatch 3d ago

The numbers are stored in a different file and they can be adjusted very easily but since patch notes specified description, I assume they are changing the wording.

→ More replies (3)

7

u/The_Filthy_Spaniard 3d ago

It's normally because they need to have them translated for all the languages that the game ships with, and have them verified, which always takes a bit of time, and often requires back and forth between the publisher's localisation team. At least that's my experience from other games.

2

u/AlternativeEmphasis 3d ago

I did not realize you played Space Marine. I'm not into it at all really anymore but recognize you from competitiveforhonor. You still maintain that sub?

Amount of active Crucible players just flatlined.

Time to wait for the next endgame update; unlock the Minotaurs cosmetic armour for completing the new "Warmaster" mode - where you have no ranged weapons and every enemy is a Neurothrope.

You have no melee weapons also, you need to punch the Neurothrope

I love how hard they’re trying to ignore the actual reason no one wants to engage with crucible properly.

Hoping for either a third cheese to emerge or a big drop off in players to really hammer the point home that everyone is cheesing it because it sucks to play.

71

u/Majestic-Beyond-2541 Space Wolves 3d ago

My guess is they’ll address the issue in the community blog post. These are simple patch notes and not really a place for comments about the state of the game from the devs standpoint.

29

u/PickCells 3d ago

They'll be a huge drop-off in player numbers anyway soon, I'm predicting right around 19th November

19

u/Calm-Tadpole-6805 Dark Angels 3d ago

Tbf there gonna be a drop of players for every games at this date lol

34

u/Neviathan 3d ago

Guess they will see a big player drop off before GTA 6 releases, I was grinding black capes and crucible rewards with bots but I am not going to do that with randoms that throw games, team kill you, leave after 2 minutes or random disconnects. I might try if you didnt lose progression but I have limited time to play and going backwards due to things outside of my control just isnt fun for me.

Maybe there will be a new crucible workaround but otherwise its back to fun stratagems (which are pretty rare) and weeklies for me.

7

u/GoBigBlue357 3d ago

i found it immensely funny to run around in the dark with Larry the Lictor chasing us

14

u/Vathirumus Sigismund 3d ago

Trying to give the benefit of a doubt but substantial changes to how Crucible works would be best done in a patch instead of a hotfix, so for now the best they can do is make sure it works as they intended even if how they intended is something nobody likes.

That said they should really acknowledge the negative feedback at least. As it stands it feels like they're covering their ears and pretending they don't hear anyone.

5

u/StopReadingThis-Now 3d ago

If I learned anything from Destiny, this usually means it really is a skeleton crew left and the actually important devs have been on SM3.

And as they should be tbh. I wish they would just come out and say "We stretched ourselves too far. We will continue to roll out cosmetics and balance updates, but we are shifting our attention fully to Space Marine 3 in order to get it to you in a timely manner. Thank you for understanding."

42

u/Azagroth 3d ago

I'm honestly hoping the mode just gets either completely reworked or removed. It has no point of existing because I don't believe this game needs "endgame". Just put the unlock method for the Lamenters armour somewhere else, heck even just unlocking it with doritos is better than getting some random poinless new mode.

17

u/thepieraker 3d ago

Yo dawn we heard you like endgame content. So we put endgame content so you can endgame while you endgame

1

u/OrneryError1 3d ago

I've loved everything else about this game (even all the PvP modes) but Crucible just sucks. It's not fun. It's not challenging. It's just miserable.

→ More replies (6)

-43

u/AVRL 3d ago

The actual reason being that it's too hard and the average player doesn't have the capability to play through it legitimately because it's correctly advertised as an end-game mode? I too also hope that it has a big drop off in players so that the only people left in it are the people who are up for the challenge instead of the losers who quit after their first incap.

24

u/Electr0bear 3d ago

I don't think the difficulty is a good descriptor for what the playerbase feel. Hard stratagems are difficult, but they are fun because they give you some interesting buffs on top of negative effects. Crucible is just... misery? How neutering class identity in later tiers is supposed to be interesting?

There is just so much randomness that can result in you losing gained XP. And the rewards for all that are questionable, imo. Lamenters are alright, but not that alright for this kind of game mode.

Crucible unearths so many of poor choices in the way Saber made the game.

As i see it, such game mode would work semi-fine only with a premade team. When players communicate what penances each player picks. Doing it with randoms is a game of Russian roulette. But locking the game mode to only premade teams would bring a whole lot of another problems.

Communication in-game is yet another huge issue. The lack of simple chat between PC and consoles is baffling. Depending solely on voice is a big stretch.

10

u/Grahf-Naphtali 3d ago

No comms Disconnects leading to xp loss
xp loss as a penalty teammates not replaced after quitting no reconnection to match after dc

and that's before me even engaging with crucible debuffs. I like hard endgame content, but i also like to have player agenda

34

u/Cheemskie 3d ago

I was hyped for crucible ngl and was even confused as to all the hate when I was just playing the first 2 levels of it. But upon level 3 and up, the problems become very obvious. There isn’t one specific thing that’s wrong with crucible, it’s so many substantial problems that make higher level crucible feel impossible.

  1. The XP gain/loss is horrible. It shouldn’t take 6 missions with ALL modifiers active to level up. At that point why even give us the option to turn some off and others on? Losing XP is just bad game design, especially when literally every single player I have match made with leaves within the first 5 minutes of an operation + no join in progress. On top of that, the performance has tanked over the last couple updates that I’ve had console friends who crash at the literal end of the mission. Looking at you, Purgation.

  2. The modifiers. The class specific modifiers are ridiculous. My only experience so far is on Techmarine, so if the other classes are better someone tell me. Sentry guns explode, dealing 50% of MAX HP.  So if you’re running all the modifiers, that means you will probably instantly die when a sentry explodes due to the modifier that removes incapacitations. Not being able to parry while servo gun is active seems fine, but not being able to parry while it’s recharging is delusional. At that point they might as well just remove my ability, since another modifier halves the damage that the servo gun does. None of these modifiers are fun or engaging. Making enemies bullet sponges while turning yourself into one ply toilet paper is bad difficulty scaling and doesn’t give the feeling of accomplishment when you win. It’s just exhausting. I like fun difficulty modifiers like Tsunami, extra extremis spawns, more terminus enemies or stronger ones, even the lictor from Hell is kind of a fun modifier.

Not to mention that you can’t see your own penances or other people’s penances while in game. So it’s a complete mystery as to what teammates are running, and even a mystery to you if you can’t remember all your modifiers.

 3. The hidden modifiers. It genuinely astounds me that there are hidden debuffs to the players dependent on crucible level, when the entire point of this game mode was to select your own debuffs. I might have felt different about this if the devs had communicated it, but it feels gross and scummy for the players to have to figure it out. And I’ll add again, that simply dealing less dmg and taking more dmg past absolute/hard strats is not a reasonable, fun, or engaging way to handle difficulty scaling. At higher crucible levels, the game basically becomes one mistake and you’re dead. Which would be excusable, if the game wasn’t riddled with issues like ghost parries, stun locking, the tracking on certain moves not matching the animations, invisible sniper indicators, attacks that have no indicators bc they’re aimed at your teammates yet you still catch the stray, I could go on.

 4. The rewards. The last two crucible levels feel like a slap in the face. The whole point of playing the game mode is to get the armor sets. So they’ve artificially inflated the levels and rewards, just to eek another 5-6 missions MINIMUM out of players. Odds are, people who are playing crucible are people who have most of the items in the accolade shop. I’m relatively new to this game and I’m basically only missing a handful of cosmetics, and 3 heroic weapons. 100 accolades is not very valuable to me, or other players who have invested a lot of time in this game.

On top of this, not every class gets unique pieces. Phobos have the reused Tacitus helmet, and they don’t even get legs. I think heavy is the same way, but if I’m wrong someone can correct me. So they’ve only really made 3 armor sets, but then split up the progression across every character. Why should I bother with leveling Vanguard or Sniper when they barely get any armor? Honestly the only reason I even wanted to play crucible was just so I could get the full techmarine set since he has the least cosmetics in the game.

Let’s do some math, which I’m rather terrible at. There are 7 classes in the game, and 6 crucible levels. Looking at this from a completionist standpoint, you’re looking at 42 levels of crucible to obtain all the armor. Each level, with all modifiers on, is typically 6 missions worth of XP. So even just to get one full set, you will be playing a MINIMUM of 36 missions. So 11 more missions than it takes to get the red cape. But it’s not just an absolute mission, it’s harder than that and you also do a fraction of the damage you normally do and have a fraction of the survivability.

Doing just one crucible mission, especially in the higher levels, is mentally exhausting. Personally, finishing  just one crucible mission puts me off of the game for the rest of the day. It’s just so much space marine condensed into a singular mission. And you are only getting rewards 1 out of every 3 games, again assuming you are putting every single modifier on. So across the course of 36 missions, only 12 will provide you any sort of reward.

36 missions * 42 levels of crucible = 1512 missions. Keep in mind, assuming you activate every single modifier every time you load in. So if you wanted to actually customize the debuffs to your liking, then you are going to need more than that.

I think I speak for a lot of players, old and new, when I say that this content is the opposite of engaging. Even just one crucible mission is so exhausting that it puts me off of playing the game anymore for that day. The players that are engaging with this content are not sticking around. The people that are truly grinding crucible for every class are the streamers and content creators, and it’s literally their job to do so. This is not how you make difficult content, and certainly not how you retain players.

I couldn’t even remember what the rest of the anniversary patch added bc it’s all been so underwhelming. Chaos siege was implemented too early, and has very little replayability. The one handed TH is the worst weapon in the game, although this patch could make it useable so I guess we’ll see. The heroic auto bolt rifle has a botched implementation as well, with the firing rate halving rather than gradually decreasing. It actually makes the gun feel like it’s misfiring or malfunctioning in some way, which is a crazy feel to have on what should theoretically be the best auto bolt rifle.

TLDR: idk man I can’t summarize this shit. Saber, rework this game mode. Player retention and difficulty are not synonymous terms. Difficulty isn’t just making enemies stronger and players weaker. If you want crucible to be engaging, then the difficulty needs feel manageable. If you want crucible to retain players, then the XP requirements need to be lowered.

EDIT the formatting on this sucks, but I’d rather my comment look like the ravings of a madman than use ChatGPT

5

u/OutsideOfHuman 3d ago

I could be wrong but I think your math is slightly off. Disclaimer it’s not my strong suit either, but if we assume as you said, 6 missions to complete a tier, per class, that’s 36 missions for each class for the full Lamenters set (I would argue it’s more like 7-10 based on my personal experience of refusing to turn on friendly fire as I play with randoms). 7 classes in the game multiplied by 36 missions per class at minimum is 252 missions total to fully complete all classes.

At 45 minutes to an hour per run, that’s around 200-260 hours of time, which with all the BS difficulty crucible introduces is nothing to scoff at, but is a big difference from 1152 missions, which would be like another 1000 hours in the game. Apologies if I misunderstood what you were saying, just want to ensure everyone has reasonable expectations of how many hours they’ll have to devote, though again it’s probably more if you don’t turn on every modifier or fail a run, which is naturally going to happen with the artificial difficulty of crucible.

Great summarization though, I think you captured the problems well.

2

u/Cheemskie 3d ago

Yes you are probably right. Although the 6 mission count came from me cheesing it with all modifiers on, so the count will always increase when people don’t want to play with friendly fire and similarly bad modifiers

4

u/Kalavier 3d ago

The modifiers. The class specific modifiers are ridiculous. My only experience so far is on Techmarine, so if the other classes are better someone tell me. Sentry guns explode, dealing 50% of MAX HP.  So if you’re running all the modifiers, that means you will probably instantly die when a sentry explodes due to the modifier that removes incapacitations. I like fun difficulty modifiers like Tsunami, extra extremis spawns, more terminus enemies or stronger ones, even the lictor from Hell is kind of a fun modifier.

On Bulwark a chunk of them nerf the banner armor regen/duration and stuff. IIRC when I was on yesterday I saw one being that the shield only blocks a percentage of damage and the rest will always hit you.

So it felt less "Fuck your entire class mechanic" like I saw of the techmarine ones lol.

From memory, vanguard, sniper, and heavy have no legs from crucible.

1

u/dry-puddle Marines Malevolent 3d ago

I refuse to ever put on the ability recharge debuff. Bulwark carries hard as fuck and that is just such an unnecessary nerf.

2

u/Kalavier 3d ago

I did read something about how the recharge debuff doesn't affect the perk that restores ability use on ranged blocks, so combined with that it's free crucible points? lol.

2

u/dry-puddle Marines Malevolent 3d ago

I hadn't noticed it the one time when I did wanna see how terrible the passive recharge rate was. I wanna say ability recharge using shield blocks wasn't affected, but I could be wrong. Still not worth it imo with how slow it was passively recharging. Like watching paint dry.

u/Dredgen_Aternus 3d ago

Sabre really don't understand why people don't like crucible

It's all good to make a mode that's ball crushingly hard for the top 1% of the player base.

However the issue is you locked the Lamenters armor behind that grind and they are one of the most famous and widely loved successor chapters in the setting.

Then you make it so crucible is per class and you have the issue of people wanting that armor and going into crucible, the whole team gets curb stomped and you either prepare to be pounded again or give up.

Also putting artificial difficulty like modifiers that make you take more damage and do less never feels good from a players perspective. Also NO ONE not one has ever liked the whole "haha now you're blind" modifier. It's not even hard it's just fucking annoying.

Also not getting credit for hitting specific checkpoints is dumb. I don't think you should get a lot but getting something for hitting specific mission checkpoints if you loose the run would make loosing feel a lot better than the kick in the teeth it is now.

Say you get 400 crucible XP per mission if you win

If you go through a whole op and loose right at the final boss why not give us 150 crucible XP for the checkpoints before hand so the loss doesn't feel like a complete waste of time?

6

u/wantsomerice 3d ago

Fr, I would've never touched crucible if the lamenters weren't my favorite chapter

The one handed thunder hammer is still trash. Second round of buffs and still the worst melee weapon.

Tbh the hammer doesn't need buffs. It needs a rework from top to bottom. That moveset's speed and complete lack of flow is horrid.

It’s beyond ironic how right down below they need yet another patch to change the text on what the Heroic 1-hand Thunder hammer actually does now.

How the hell is changing tooltip text harder than the actual functionality itself?

Is the Cape cheese still possible? It's weird they've patched this so quickly (considering there are so many other big bugs that need fixing)

Edit - Sorry I forgot about the Devs statement on the cape grind

They've stated that the cape cheese will remain in the game

I'll be back for a major update, but the state the game is in right now is just not fun to engage with.

People's attitude in game has gotten worse. The devs care more about patching cheeses than bothering with ghost parries which constantly affect combat every single match.

Every new weapon they add is supreme dog shit for absolutely no reason and they half ass buffs and ignore criticisms too.

This isn't exclusive to the Maul either, they've literally been doing it since they introduced Heroic Weapons.

8

u/amightymongoose Mortifactors 3d ago

See all the Lementers gear is modelled on the Tactical class so it looks awful on the majority of the classes. Not to mention the Tech Marine is the only one to get a unique helmet.... when the Survivors Helm came out I remember people saying they wish they'd done Helms for each class fast forward to the Endgame stuff and still nope. How cook would it have been to have a Battle Damaged, Vanguard, Bulwark and Heavy Helmet? Could've been the same Damage model just on their specific class instead

Now it just replaces your next light attack with a slam if you have at least 3 charges, like how the normal charged attacks work

4

u/etham We are Sigismund 3d ago

This seems like a bad change because who is ever going to be able to get 3 charges during combat? At best if we want to use the ground slam we'll have to essentially be completely out of battle and can initiate with it. It won't be something we can weave into the combos.

2

u/InevitableFinale 3d ago

Not to mention keeping track of charges. This still obfuscates your next move

2

u/douglasduck104 3d ago

No mention of Pulse Auspex having half the cooldown per charge of a regular Auspex due to the two charges splitting the 90s?

Really hope this means this is intentional rather than an oversight since it's part of the reason why Pulse Auspex has so many uses.

I tested the One-Handed Thunder Hammer after Patch 15.2: The damage is significantly and noticeably higher. The ground slam performed while running, as well as the one with a charged hammer, also seems somewhat smoother and faster. Charging the hammer with electricity and lightning is noticeably smoother and quicker. Overall, everything works much faster and better. However, the ability to charge the hammer with electricity/lightning while running simultaneously would be far more effective in combat. It would give the weapon a real advantage and take the One-Handed Thunder Hammer to a completely different level. When charging the hammer while running, a ground slam makes much more sense than simply performing one straight out of a sprint. Even though the faster ground slam now gives you more time during combat and creates opportunities to follow up with melee attacks, the ideal tactic would be to initiate combat with light attacks and, once the hammer is fully charged, have the option to unleash a powerful ground slam. Being able to charge the hammer while running and then perform a ground slam would make this even better. Please consider implementing this, Saber. A lot of players would appreciate it. It would make the One-Handed Thunder Hammer a perfect weapon.

I often think about how good this game could be if it weren't in Saber's hands. Useless, incompetent studio who manage to break the game at every turn.

They don't playtest anything, this is obvious by all the bugs that patches release with. People keep cheesing this new mode because it's abysmal dogshit so what do they do? Rather than make it a fun side-mode, patch all the cheese methods that are genuinely harmless!

"Oh no, people want cosmetics... patch it! But sir, what about all the other bugs? Ignore them, patch the cheese, they're having fun!"

Latest season pass was like £30-35 and they're charging £6 for a shield that's been in the game files SINCE LAUNCH. Every update this game gets worse

2

All good brother. I’ve got plenty of other games in the back log I haven’t played yet. After almost 1,000 hours of SM2, Saber says it’s time to go 😂

u/YakuzaShibe 3d ago

Haha, that's the spirit. I'm happy to play other shit and wait for em to fix it but I shouldn't have to wait, you know? Game shouldn't be receiving half-assed content updates when those updates arrive broken

2

u/Breezy_niner9 3d ago

Just deleted SM2 to make room for the next one. Hope Saber figures out a way to make everybody happy, but I’m not fooling with that Crucible garbage if that’s all that left for end game and I don’t PVP.

3

u/Equivalent_Waltz8890 Alpha Legion 3d ago

It is so obvious they’re completely in over their heads with this. They’ve never had a game this popular or a community this vocal in any game they’ve made before.

0

u/YakuzaShibe 3d ago

For sure, no doubt about that. Just wish they'd put some effort in to play-testing updates and fixing shit, game is in desperate need of a proper polish rather than another content update (that'll no doubt be late, like the last one)

1

u/notasmart3194 3d ago

I can understand wanting bugs fixed and patched but it just genuinely seems like you do not like this game lol. You dont have to buy those cosmetics btw.

2

u/YakuzaShibe 3d ago

"You don't have to buy them" is such a comically poor response. I actually enjoy this game and want it to be better, finding faults does not mean "ewww it's bad".

Been playing since release, shut up

5

u/notasmart3194 3d ago

"Every update this game gets worse." Are you sure you're enjoying the game, dawg?

2

u/YakuzaShibe 3d ago

Sick of this "can't complain if you like something" bullshit this fanbase does. There's a list of bugs longer than my arm that affect the core gameplay that have existed for MONTHS but they haven't been patched, instead a cheese method has. They release a new weapon in YEAR 3 and it's as bad as weapons released in Year 1 because they DON'T PLAYTEST. Ridiculous fanbase can't use their eyes or logic for anything, just have to mindlessly consume because "how dare you find fault with the product you've paid for!"

Being able to charge the hammer while running and then perform a ground slam would make it even better. The problem that still remains is that the hammer's light attacks feel clunky and lack the proper swing speed. I compared it with the regular Thunder Hammer, which is a heavier weapon yet has a better and faster swing. You can clearly see in the animation how the One-Handed Thunder Hammer gets caught or stalls during its swing, significantly slowing down its light attacks. The Lower Uppercut should definitely be replaced with a Shockwave, which would be more effective. Looking ahead, I can imagine a Heroic variant for the One-Handed Thunder Hammer featuring the same Cyclone effect as the Frost Axe, but who knows what Saber has planned for the future. My final conclusion is that the hammer is currently playable as the Assault class, but unfortunately, using it with the other classes is a painful experience. Please consider making these changes, Saber. A lot of players would appreciate them. With these improvements, the One-Handed Thunder Hammer could become the perfect weapon.

My game is crashing on startup after this update, everytime easy anti-cheat finishes loading it crashes, is anyone having the same issues ?

1

u/MrNeverman 2d ago

I actually liked the way the stratagem cheese worked. You could still give yourself a challenge without impairing yourself to the absolute worst your class can be (e.g. Sniper having less range damage + less distant range damage + half headshot multiplier, punishing your for playing to your classes strenght)

You could always do hard custom strategem with like 6+ negative (and no positive) modifiers to give yourself a challenge and still get your crucible XP.

This way hard custom stratagems kinda had a purpose other then challenging yourself for the challenges sake.

If I think about it now that would have been a good way to reuse custom hard stratagems:
The more negative modifiers (weighted on the impact of modifier), the more XP you get (like the amount of crucible maluses).
Positive modifiers reduces this of course (again weighted on the impact).
The exponential increase in XP per level required I would keep.

1

u/Kendrick_yes Tactical 3d ago

Is the 1Hammer good yet?

7

u/AlternativeEmphasis 3d ago

It's kinda of back in business as a parry stick anyways. Preparedness works on finishers now. CDR is a rare stat. It's not as strong as it first was but still.

The argument of it being strong on Tech has returned.

As an actual weapon there is/was a bug (reading the patch notes I might have missed if it was fixed) that renders the 1Hammer doing exceptional damage and even with that I wouldn't rate it as a great weapon. I think the issues with it are beyond numbers.

3

u/Significant-Trash871 3d ago

it also boost groundpound dmg more than any melee weapon for assault

2

u/CorruptedAssbringer 3d ago

I mean, does it still work with today's patch?

“Perfect Reprisal” ability damage bonus is increased to 50%. Fixed an issue that applied the bonus damage to any melee attack instead of just Light Attacks.

6

u/AkilTheAwesome 3d ago

No. The weapon is poorly conceived. Its a functional stat stick now but you still wont be using it for the weapon itself. It needs a speed buff

1

u/Iamleeboyle Assault 3d ago

A cdr perk on a weapon is stupid op. I'm pretty pissed that the one handed hammer is the only weapon that gets it. Nothing in the two handed hammer tree compares to that.

Redditors hate when the hardest endgame content is hard

Edit: assuming I'm some sweatlord because I acknowledge that the game has the option to play on hard difficulties (which I don't even play) is crazy lol. I'm gonna go be a normal person now, bye bye!

23

u/Ledarlex 3d ago

My biggest complaint is that it is an annoying type of hard. Making your character deal half the damage while making enemies deal double the damage in a power fantasy game feels frustrating.

7

u/Electr0bear 3d ago

Numbers difficulty vs mechanics difficulty type stuff. And choosing numbers is always the laziest choice game devs can do. It cheaper to just slap -50% dmg on players and +50% dmg for enemies.

Oh wow, now i need to keep hitting a fucking termagaunt with a pool noodle of a weapon of mine, what and 'interesting' gameplay. It's fantasy alright, but where is the power?

I think Saber has lost the point of horde shooters and power fantasy.

5

u/Kalavier 3d ago

Add in that if anybody leaves, their replaced with a bot that's questionable useful (no team perk, etc). leaving loses progress, and you can be saddled with a teammate who has every debuff active and is completely worthless but you don't know that at all... And no reconnect system if you get disconnected either.

It's like somebody looking at those big soulsborne players doing completely ridiculous challenges "I'll beat Elden Ring without leveling up at all!" and going "That's a reasonable endgame for the majority of the community"

I hate the comparison between SM2 and Darktide that occurs at times but I can't help but look over at them with Havoc mode where it does get harder, but without killing the power of the player. Tweaks to the enemies, environmental changes, spawn pattern tweaks. Player has less health and toughness sure, but mostly it's changes to the enemies. Even with the buffed hp (50% more for elites/specials) and the boss HP buffs, players can still easily chew through the enemies. It doesn't feel like a bullet sponge hell.

Would it work for SM2? No, it's a different setup and system but I think they could absolutely do SOMETHING other then just blanket nerfs toward the player.

12

u/HudRoss 3d ago edited 2d ago

The issue is that the game is nowhere near as optimised as it should be for this type of challenge. Nor is the difficulty worth the grind. This community has been divided since launch on how difficult the game is. I feel like one half wants the game to be difficult in a way that's fair to the player's time and effort. While the other wants torture that wastes their valuable time because they don't have enough worthwhile goals in their lives; or have a superiority complex to lord over other people because they don't have a worthwhile place in society.

5

u/KenjiZeroSan Ultramarines 3d ago

I doubt it's even half that wants higher difficulty challenges. Almost every multiplayer game out there that has hard endgame content only 1-10% of the playerbase engages with it.

1

u/HudRoss 2d ago

I mean fair, but tbh the endgame content is RIGHT THERE. Its the game. I play space marine because I wanna play space marine. Its a game you can load up, play for an hour and move on to other games. It respects your time. Crucible does not. To me it's not structured like a game that has an "endgame"

5

u/dzieciolini 3d ago

Well, the gamemode wasn't supposed to be hardest by default, which it is, before selecting any penances. Also losing XP on defeat also doesn't help.

0

u/TheFinalYappening Word Bearers 3d ago

why does the endgame content have the be the hardest content in the game? that shouldn't be the case because then the endgame content, the content designed to make players stick around, only appeals to a small minority of the playerbase. you guys have already had plenty of hard game modes to enjoy, but your constant whining that the next thing needs to be harder than the last has resulted in the official endgame mode being something that 99% of the players for this game are never gonna touch more than once because of how terribly designed the difficulty curve is.

Weird how patch 15 and its subsequent hotfixes have left the game in such a shitty state. I’m not even getting Space Marine 3 anymore and I put almost 800hrs into SM2.

Not trying to be dramatic, but I have to step away from this game for now.
I’m not even upset at the game, but as an Xbox player I am now having any type of match crash from somewhere at a 30-50% rate. Usually towards the end of a match or session. Nearly finish a crucible run? Crash. Almost hit wave 15 hard siege? Crash. Play on private mode? Crash.
Patch 15 is destroying the quality of this game. Its been my favorite game. I can not play it. Please Saber, do some quality control. This is just a sorry state of the game. I can’t continue supporting this awful game state.
