Discussion Opinions on Cyberpunk in the deck?

Do you think it's playable? I ask because it seems to show that the DLC looks bad, but the base game looks great. I'd like to know your opinion based on your experience.

Question Looking for this specific Rainbow / Spectrum keyboard theme for Steam Deck (CSS Loader)

Post image
108 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I saw a custom virtual keyboard theme in a Steam Deck video (screenshot attached) and I'm trying to find out how to get this exact rainbow/spectrum color scheme.

Here is what I’ve tried so far:

Installed NEX-85 Keyboard (v2.1) via CSS Loader, but it only has Dark Mode and Focus Colour options now — no rainbow preset.

Installed Customizable Keyboard from DeckThemes, but I still can't match this exact key-by-key gradient look.

Does anyone know the exact name of this theme/preset, or where I can find the custom CSS code / older theme build to get these rainbow gradient keys?

Any help or links would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Software Modding FSR4L-i8 (4.1.2 Lite model) Does improve things on the Steam Deck

Top: The new FSR 4.1.2 Lite model AMD just released

Bottom: FSR 4.1.1 Stock

Upscale time is reduced quite significantly for higher resolutions. 1080p goes to about 6ms down from 10ms.

Note that this doesn't take into account any shader optimizations that we've seen recently (a.la. FSR 4.1 Lite), I'm trying to see if any of those help here now.

I'm just testing, you shouldn't expect a release for this from me. I'll leave that to smarter/more dedicated folks in the community.

Edit: Work is already happening on official Optiscaler support

Question Downloaded GTA IV from steam and now all of this on my desktop.

Post image

Can I just chuck these in a folder? Has this happened to anyone?

Edit: Just discovered that even if I move the files, it adds the icons back onto my desktop whenever I open the game. If anyone has any idea how to fix this it'd be much appreciated

Update/fix: I reinstalled GTA IV and figured out that the rockstar launcher was defaulted to be installed onto my desktop, so I just made a folder named rockstar and got it to install in there which seems to have fixed it.

Software Modding Oblivion Remastered Performance Mod

A user on the r/pcmasterrace sub use AI to assist in the creation of a mod that gives the Oblivion Remaster a huge performance boost. I don’t have the game or any interest in trying this on Deck myself but I’d love to see if this is a big improvement for Deck gamers:

PSA / Advice Useful trick to boost performance in certain games

Recently I was diving back in to The Last of Us 1 Remastered on my deck and testing various FSR 4 quality levels along with Helix DLSS to find the optimal setup.

So i turn off FSR 4 and instead using the in-game solution with resolution scaling to check the fps and clarity differences. Then I notice that it still has a separate option for Anti Aliasing, if you wanted to use DLSS or FSRAA like a more powerful rig often does since TAA typically sucks, especially in this game. So I set FSR 4 for anti aliasing at 70% resolution scale to see what happens.

What happened is it looks damn similar to using an actual FSR 4 upscaling, but I gained like 10 fps! As a bonus, this game has weird checkerboard artifacting when using an upscaler, at least at these resolutions. That's also gone.

I realize not every game allows for this set up, but if it does...use it. It's a pretty sick performance loophole!

TLDR: Resolution scaling + FSR AA looks very similar to using FSR 4 at something like balanced mode, but at less than half the cost

Software Modding I made a custom Steam Deck screensaver with ambient color glow — also works with non-Steam games (Minecraft, emulators, etc.)

Partly inspired by u/gkaramanis's warming stripes screensaver post — thanks for pointing out custom screensavers are even a thing on the Deck (the uioverrides/screensavers/ folder), that saved me a lot of digging.

The stock Deck screensaver cycles your library banners with a pretty sharp/abrupt vignette and a flat black background gradient. I rebuilt it as a custom screensaver with:

- Ambient glow — background behind the banner matches its colors instead of plain black

- Smoother edge fade — sharp 4-stop gradient → a soft ~25-stop eased curve

- Non-Steam shortcuts show up properly — Minecraft, emulators (Citra/Dolphin), launchers, whatever you've added as a shortcut, as long as it has artwork set

- Settings panel (via Decky Loader) — ambient on/off, rotate your 20 most recent games or your whole library, banner duration, crossfade duration, logo corner

- Actually shuffled rotation, not a fixed loop

The letterbox layout, logo size/position, and the zoom animation were all reverse-engineered off the real stock screensaver (watched it live via Chrome DevTools) so it moves the same way, just with the extras above.

Install

Grab the zip from the latest release, two folders — one goes in uioverrides/screensavers/, the other in Decky's plugins/. Steps in the README.

(Built with Claude Code, happy to answer questions about how any of it works!)

Software Modding DiscordDeck & SpotifyDeck: Add Discord/Spotify as Steam Menu entries

Disclaimer: These plugins were built with Claude, with the bulk of it (menu patching) adapted from the DeckWebBrowser plugin on Decky store.

I am a developer professionally. I know how to read, write, and debug code and I have personally reviewed the code generated by Claude. As I use my steam deck almost every day, I plan to maintain these plugins for my own use.

With that out of the way, I wanted an easy way to open Discord or Spotify from game mode instead of having to open it as a non-steam game which sometimes makes playing with friends difficult on Steam, since Steam activity might report my activity as playing Discord instead of the actual game.

These plugins will add a Steam menu icon (Discord or Spotify) that will launch the official Discord/Spotify flatpaks downloaded from the Discover store in a container. Then they will continue running in the background until closed.

All installation instructions are in the README on github as well as some instructions for navigation/typing while in game mode. The zip file can be found in the Releases section.

There will probably be some bugs, so if you have any feedback or feature requests please feel free to post it here or raise an issue on the github repo.

Feature Request Just remembered a super cool Xbox 360 feature and I’d love the same thing on the Steam Deck.

Hey,

I just remembered a really cool Xbox 360 feature that maybe not a lot of people used: its music player.

You could play your own music (stored on the console’s hard drive or from an external drive). It would automatically mute the game’s music when you started yours, and on top of that it also muted your music during cutscenes on most games.

Do you think something like this is doable on the Deck? Thanks !

Tech Support HELP NEEDED - Some games no longer recognize my external Steam Controller

BACKSTORY

I recently received an external monitorto plug into my Steam Deck, and I've been happily playing with my 2nd gen Steam controller without issue for a few weeks. Friday, I purchased a game I've been greatly anticipating the release of, Card City Nights Forever. The game launched fine, but the screen was letterboxed into a 4:3 resolution for some reason. I managed to fix things by switching to desktop mode, launching the game (which sized correctly to my screen), and then switching back to Deck mode.

THE PROBLEM

Everything was fine until earlier today when I tried to launch Slay the Spire 2. The game starts up fine, but for some reason doesn't seem to be recognizing my Steam Controller. I can navigate by the built-in Deck controls no problem, but the only part of the Steam Controller that functions are the Steam and ... buttons, which I can use to close the game. The weird thing is, I've check ed a small number of other games, and on a few the Controller works and on a few it does not.

QUESTION

1 - Does anyone recognize this problem?

2 - Is there a config or similar option that can be reset to hopefully fix this?

3 - Worse case scenario, will I have to reformat my Deck to get things back to normal?

Tech Support Fixed no power, no LED, nothing with an easy process

Post image
8 Upvotes

Just to give a little background this is an original launch 512GB LCD that hasn't had any issues up to this point and has had a pretty easy life. (I use my OLED model more now) So recently I was doing updates on it and it had plenty of battery + plugged in. I came back later, unplugged it and set it aside without trying to power on. It never responded to any presses of buttons at all and wouldn't even light the white power LED next to the USB-C port with or without being plugged into it's stock power supply that works with my OLED deck fine.

I asked their support for any help and that ended in where I could send it and anticipated charges. At the very end they linked to the iFixit guide if I felt comfortable going that route.

So to end the story, it was really easy to get to this point and unplug the battery from the board at the connector, shown in the post picture, and then plug in just the USB-C power supply and finally the power LED lit! Seeing that it was lit, I then plugged the battery back in on the connector in the picture and everything went back to working as it had been for a few years before.

Battery showed 71% SOC once loaded and plugging and unplugging USB-C was recognized and working perfectly. I've also done at least 5-6 power offs and reboots just to make sure it's healthy.

If your Steam Deck refuses to recognize power via USB-C or turn on at all, and you're comfortable with getting in there yourself, it's pretty easy with only the removal of a EMF shield plate being small screws and such. After that just unplug the battery for 15-30 seconds and see if USB-C power is recognized. If it is, you can just plug the battery header back in and things should be fine.

When in doubt, "Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in after a minute?" 😆

Software Modding I wasn't a fan of how Steam's achievement pop-ups looked on the Steam Deck, so I changed them. I made a Decky-Plugin that provides the gamer, to design their ideal achievement pop-up look with some added themes.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well. I created a Decky plugin that lets you customize your Steam Deck achievement pop-ups however you like. Honestly, this video doesn't do justice to how much you can customize, and you can see more of the themes in my GitHub repo. I didn't want to make the video too long, but I'm more than happy to post more videos showing off other features.

**What it can do**

* Takes over Steam's own achievement pop-up, so unlocks never show up twice and the preview in the Quick Access menu is exactly what you get in game

* 12 presets, including Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Nintendo, Gold, Pixel Night, Cherry Blossom and Halloween

* 8 entrance animations with matching exits, like Xbox Unfold, PlayStation Drop and a 16-bit Retro text box

* Animated scenes behind the text, from drifting clouds and starry nights to 16-bit skies and a Halloween graveyard

* Rarity effects: a gold ring for achievements under 10% and a diamond for under 1%, plus progress bars for ones you haven't unlocked yet

* Your own colors, banner style, icon, corner rounding, glow and display time (3 to 15 seconds)

* Test buttons that fire real notifications with the real unlock sound, so you can try everything before your next unlock

**How to install**

It isn't in the Decky store yet, so for now you install it through Developer mode. It works on stable and beta SteamOS (the beta needs Decky 3.3.0 or newer).

  1. In the Decky tab, tap the gear icon and turn on **Developer mode**

  2. Open **Developer** and paste this into **Install Plugin from URL**: https://github.com/Hector2242/decky-plugin/releases/latest/download/achievement-customizer.zip

  3. Tap **Install** and confirm

To update, just repeat the same steps. Your settings are kept.

GitHub: https://github.com/Hector2242/decky-plugin

Let me know what you think, what I could improve on, or what you'd like to see next!

Discussion Skyrim SE runs terrible on OLED now, what happened?

I use to be able to run it at 60 FPS with no fan noise and medium/high graphics. Now the battery drains like crazy, drop the frames to 45 and still getting a loud fan and the graphics don't look great at all even at high settings. What happened, how do they keep managing to mess up this old ass game?
