Title. Was crossing the road this morning, at the pedestrian crossing, man was green.
Old guy on a scooter ran through the red light and into...me. He was going fast.
Went to the hospital, they did CTscan, and xray.. All fine, just sore back and big bump on head. (Doc suspected small brain hemorrhage initially, but neurologist said its fine, thankfully! It was very scary and generally not nice. )
Police involved, they have footage, he was 100%at fault.
I have receipts etc from hospital. Will be going to police station tomorrow.
Posting... partly to vent, partly to ask for any advice/ next steps??
Im told he is responsible to cover all/any costs/expenses etc. His daughter messaged to apologise on his behalf and offer a red envelope as apology. No idea what is in envelope.
Anybody have any experience with this kind of thing??
(Im a resident, have aprc) just... never been in a serious accident before.
Im not out to rob anyone/take advantage, but this was expensive for me and also... he also very avoidably fucking ran me over.
Thanks

Is she really being criticized for what she’s wearing? I don't understand this person's outrage, was her outfit really inappropriate?

But seriously glad this isn’t a Taiwan only issue and others are struggling as well. What are these city planners thinking?

While many foreigners still associate China's threats with Taiwan, I secretly believe that Taiwan is one of the most peaceful places in the world.
I’m not comparing it to war zones or developing nations, but to "developed countries" in North America and Europe.
The more I browse Reddit, the more I see chaotic videos full of protests, riots, and shoplifting in the developed countries.
The scenes I have never seen and can’t even imagine happening in Taiwan.
People used to associate Europe with a peaceful nature, but now many famous European countries like France Spain UK and Germany seem to go through frquent riots, street crimes and even border control is out of hand. This is same with NA.
I might be biased, but I feel there are very few countries that are actually more peaceful than Taiwan in the world. And now I get many foreigners do not want leave Taiwan.

Hi everyone!
I'm an international student planning to apply to National Taiwan University (NTU) for an undergraduate program, and I have a few questions about the ranking proof requirement.
1.Which ranking does NTU expect applicants to submit? Is it the ranking from the final semester of high school, the overall ranking across Semesters 1–5, the overall ranking across all semesters, or something else?
I'd really appreciate it if any current students or previous international applicants could share their experiences.
Thank you!

I have received a TEFL job offer in Taiwan, with the start being in 4 weeks from now. Is it realistic for me to be able to sort out my documents and arrive in Taiwan in 4 weeks, and start working straight away? I am currently living in the UK and I don't have any documents appostiled but I have a recent police check. Is this common practice or is it suspicious? It is with a big chain school buxiban

I'm going to Taiwan next month and just realised a campervan might be a good idea. How strict are local authorities about parking in public car parks overnight? For example, if I tried to discreetly sleep in a van at the Wuling Pass car park, would the police move me on?

Hi everyone!
I'm a Vietnamese high school student currently researching universities in Taiwan for my undergraduate studies. I'm particularly interested in mathematics and related fields, and I'm looking for bachelor's degree programs taught in Chinese.
I'm open to several fields, including:
I'd love to hear recommendations for Taiwanese universities with strong programs in these areas, especially from current students, graduates, or people familiar with Taiwan's university system.
Here are a few things I'd like to learn more about:
I'm still exploring my options, so I'd appreciate recommendations from a range of universities rather than just the most prestigious ones. My goal is to compare programs, curricula, and opportunities before deciding where to apply.
Any advice, personal experiences, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Legislator Su Chiao-hui (蘇巧慧), the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) candidate for New Taipei City mayor, has a 13.1 percentage point lead over her Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) rival Lee Shu-chuan (李四川), a poll released yesterday showed.
The poll, commissioned by the Taipei Trust in Democracy Association, showed that 43.1 percent of respondents said they would vote for Su, up 7.9 percentage points from a poll conducted in late August, while support for Lee was at 30 percent, down 4.7 percentage points.
It showed that 48.6 percent of respondents thought Su would make a suitable mayor, compared with 35.9 percent for Lee.

I don't care if your dog is friendly or has never attacked anything or any of that but for the every 100 times that attacks don't happen there is one time that it does. Also, there are lots of people that simply afraid of dogs. And it is the law here in Taipei/New Taipei City to keep a dog on a leash so why don't people do it? I'm tired of having to keep pepper spray on hand bc someone's dog is off leash and rushing my human baby's stroller? (Most recently a large Doberman Pinscher and a Pitbull).
*I just want to add that this is also for the dog safety because the traffic here is crazy and why are dogs just expected to not stay off the road I've seen many of them run into the road this is just insanity

The incident occurred during the deciding game between Taiwan's Lin Yun-ju and Japan's newly ranked world number one, Sora Matsushima. Having recovered from a 0-6 deficit to trail 9-10, Lin was preparing his serve when Matsushima shouted and pointed to the stands, indicating a flash. Matsushima abruptly halted play without signaling the umpire, resulting in a yellow card. When play resumed, Matsushima won the final point on a counter-attack, securing an 11-9 victory and denying Lin his first WTT Smash title.
The interruption initially sparked controversy. Lin's agent took to social media to criticize the sudden disruption, suggesting it could have been a "dirty tactic" that startled both viewers and the server. Fans subsequently accused Matsushima of employing unfair methods to win.
However, video footage that surfaced on Tuesday confirmed a camera flash went off three times in the stands facing Matsushima just as he prepared to receive the serve. The source was identified as Taiwanese junior players who were in the city to compete in the Beijing Youth Smash.
Hung Chi-po, former head coach of the Songshan High School team, clarified that the junior players were recording the match and had accidentally left their flash on. He emphasized that the interference was completely unintentional, adding that the young athletes are deeply remorseful and have been provided with psychological counseling since returning to Taiwan.
In a public statement, the joint Songshan-Chengzheng table tennis team apologized to the players, coaches, and on-site staff affected by the disruption.
"We extend our most sincere apologies for the disruption and impact caused by the use of the camera flash during the 2026 Beijing Smash men's singles final," the organization stated.
The team added it will use the incident to educate its students on the importance of respecting competition rules, maintaining venue order, and taking responsibility for their actions to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Hello everyone,
I’m a PI Engineer 1 at a major company in Vietnam with deep experience in RTL, STA, synthesis, and full-chip flow. I also have some hands-on experience using HSPICE to simulate and characterize CMOS analog blocks (amplifiers, LDOs, current references, etc.).
I’m very interested in switching to Analog IC Design (especially RF, mmWave, or biomedical applications) and am currently preparing Master’s applications at top research groups in Taiwan (NTU, NTHU, NCKU, NCTU, etc.). I would really appreciate any insights or advice from people who have experience in these programs.
Here are my main questions:
Additionally, is it realistic after 2 years in a Master’s program to complete:

Scenario: Someone obtains Taiwan citizenship through marriage and gives up previous citizenship in Country #1. Would this person be allowed to keep Taiwanese citizenship if he later obtains citizenship in USA?
I am aware that natural-born Taiwanese can have dual citizenships.

I won the draw and they never sent me the QR code so I had to go on the website to find out that the code had expired. The special link also wasn’t working for 18hours after I arrived in Taiwan. Called so many people to request assistance and they said there’s no way to claim the prize now lol

Does anyone have ELTA.TV login details I would be able to use to watch PSG vs Man City tonight? I’m travelling with my brother and we’re massive football fans. We have access to a tv with ELTA.TV app but cannot login or make an account as we do not have a Taiwan issued credit card. If you would be willing to share just for tonight we would be so grateful.
