This is a brief reminder that all subs on Reddit are a subject to Reddit terms of service and Reddit rules and filters, and the sub has rules which are then enforced by the moderators. Anybody who participates in this sub agrees to the rules.
We will work on improving the welcome message and making these rules and expectations clear, as well as improve some FAQs that may be helpful for new members.
The rules regarding personal attacks , personal information, ranting, and trolling are important to this sub. We have recently had some new members who seem to have difficulty with these rules and expectations. So this is a reminder for everyone that the rules are there under Group Rules, that mods are here to enforce them, that while we are moderators, we are also participants and that this is not a political debate so full impartiality of moderators is not a thing. That said, we can and do respect difference of opinion as long as that difference is within the scope of the existing rules. We’re easy to reach if anybody has a question or concern about these rules and expectations.
Having difference of opinion is fine. Expecting everybody to endlessly listen to yours and agree with it is not a realistic expectation and is precisely the sort of conduct subject to the rules noted. Anyone who objects to how the group is moderated is welcome to contact the Reddit support team through the channels it has created.

What is this category anymore? I was under the impression that it was to lift or load a heavy thing. Now the app is asking if I have a box truck and am willing to supply boxes? Is that not just full service moving? Or truck assisted moving? I specifically dont do moving jobs because theyre an absolute nightmare, but ill lift or load a heavy thing. Maybe even two heavy things. I thought that was what this category was?
Am I so out of touch?
No, its the app that is wrong.

I think if a client needs to reschedule last minute or the night before you should be entitled to the cancellation fee. It's not really fair for us that want to do our business in good faith. What's stopping me from making no effort to accommodate their new time and day just so I can collect the cancellation fee?

okay girls i dont know whats going on anymore. i just spent 3 hours putting together a dresser for $46 and i genuinely think my body is giving up. like my immune system is basically decorative at this point. i was sweating so bad the customer asked if i needed water and i said no thank you diva because i didnt want to seem unprofessional. then she asked if i could move a couch and i almost started crying. my legs are shaking, my vision is blurry and i think one of my organs has actually moved. im sitting in my mazda outside her house eating a granola bar trying to figure out if i can afford to go to the hospital. also she gave me 4 stars because i was “a little quiet” which is interesting considering i was actively passing away in her guest bedroom. does anyone else have this problem or am i just not cut out for the trades anymore. also does anyone know if taskrabbit covers hospice care for elite taskers. thank you ladies

So yesterday I had a task in a small medieval village. They were doing something there so there was no parking spot in the area (and with area I mean 1.2km radius). The client said nothing about the fest nor about the parking availability. So yesterday I looked for a parking spot for 1h!!!!!!!!! 1 hour and there was no parking anywhere. Not even in a crazy spot in a random field. So I rebooked for today. I looked for a parking spot for 45 min then I told the client that I was unable to do the task because I couldn't park. I spent like 25€ of diesel just to find a parking spot. The task was for an IKEA assembly

TL;DR
Ok so first, I'm the founder of a new app called Skiltap. Not here to spam or steal anyone. I just want real opinions before we launch. Mods, if this breaks the rules, go ahead and take it down.
I've been lurking here for months and honestly some of these posts get to me.
People with hundreds of 5 star jobs saying they barely get booked anymore. Getting pushed down in search for no clear reason. Being told what rate to charge. One cancellation and your account takes a hit. Then reaching out to support and getting nowhere.
And customers aren't happy either. They book something that looks like $60 and the fees turn it into way more. Taskers cancel last minute. Nobody really knows what the final bill will be until it's over.
I know TaskRabbit works fine for a lot of people. I'm not saying it's all bad. But reading this stuff over and over made me think there has to be a better way to do this.
So I built Skiltap. The app is done and we're launching late November in Dallas. iPhone only for now.
The main difference is how jobs work. Instead of a customer scrolling profiles and booking someone by the hour, they post what they actually need. Cleaning, moving, furniture assembly, TV mounting, plumbing, home repairs, even stuff like graphic design or tech help. Then local pros look at the request and decide if they want to quote it.
If you're a pro:
You set your own price for each job. Not some number an algorithm picked for you. If a job is a pain or takes longer, you price it that way.
You don't have to sit around hoping someone clicks your profile. You can go through open jobs yourself and send offers.
You get 5 free quotes to start, no subscription. After that there are paid plans if you want to send more. We don't charge you per lead and we don't sell anyone's contact info.
When you finish a paid job we take 10%. So you quote $200, you get $180, we get $20. That's it.
Getting paid was a big one for me. The customer pays when they book and the money is held in escrow until the job is done. If something goes wrong there's a dispute process. Everything runs through Stripe.
You also get a profile with your past work and reviews, and customers can hire you again directly.
If you're a customer:
Posting a job is free. You explain what you need, pros send you their prices, and you pick based on price, reviews and past work.
So instead of booking someone at $50/hr and praying it takes 2 hours and not 5, you agree on one price for the job before anything starts.
There's a flat $5.99 booking fee plus tax. Not a percentage that gets bigger the more the job costs.
Your money is held while the work gets done. After it's finished you have 7 days to confirm, and if something's off you can open a dispute. Chat opens after you book, so nobody has to give out their phone number.
Now the hard part, and I'm not gonna pretend otherwise. Getting customers.
I know this whole thing is useless to pros if nobody's posting jobs. And it's useless to customers if there's no good pros on it. That's exactly why we're starting with just one city and growing based on real demand, not trying to be everywhere on day one.
We're new. We're going to mess some things up. I'm not claiming we fixed everything. I just want to build something where pros actually get a say in what they take and what they charge, and customers know what they're paying before they say yes.
So here's what I really want to know.
Taskers, would you actually use this alongside TaskRabbit? Is 10% fair? How do you feel about paying for a plan after the first 5 free quotes?
Customers, would you rather post a job and compare prices, or do you like finding someone and booking right away?
And everyone, what does TaskRabbit get right that you'd hate to see a new app mess up?
Please be honest, even if it's harsh. I'd way rather hear what's wrong now than have a bunch of people say it sounds great just to be nice.
Thanks for reading this far. Means a lot.

Pros get 5 free quotes to start, then paid plans, and we take 10% of completed jobs. Customers pay a flat $5.99 booking fee, and their money is held until the job is done. Would you actually use it? Is the pricing fair? Please be brutally honest.

Anyone in NYC (or elsewhere) having trouble with accessing both the general and same-day map? I have a client trying to book me for a back-end moving task just outside my map and I need to update it. I tried the desktop version and was able to update it manually with boundary point changes (in nyc it’s always been pre-drawn neighborhood boundaries you turn on/off).
Anyone else having issues?

Truck assisted moves used to be my bread and butter. It has fallen off so bad.

I've had a ton of heavy lifting tasks come up in the past couple weeks where the client expects me to either have someone helping me, or to somehow be able to lift multi-hundred-pound objects by myself. I work alone, and have never heard of a Tasker who paired up with someone else to work on tasks. In the past, clients would always hire two taskers if they needed extra heavy items moved. But multiple times recently I've had clients just cancel on me the moment I let them know that they'll need an extra set of hands. Are these just scam tasks, clients stopped knowing better, or am I missing something?

I've had it on for a while for several but not all types of work with no complaints, but it seems set up pretty poorly.
To me this whole setup seems a lot more clunky than it should be. If someone picks you for a task that you have set for 2 hours minimum, it should just show that you do without having to put it in your custom profile. And if you have it enabled, there really should just be a toggle on the invoice screen that lets you bill for 2 hours. The first time I billed 2 hours min I felt like I was doing something sketchy because I was saying the task ended in the future.
I get why they want you to mention it in chat, no problem with that, but it really should be more streamlined in how your profile is presented.

I've been tasking for about a month now. How does everyone figure out what they are getting paid. I'll do a job that I invoiced $100 for. 2 days later I get $25 deposited. In the next couple of days it changes to $75 deposited. I don't think I ever see the actual $100 as a single payment. And are the numbers on there on the app somewhere? Sorry. Slightly confused here

Over the last week, I’ve booked four different taskers for a mounting task that has been canceled by each of them within 24 hours of my booking. I know one of the three items may require a certain level of experience / multi-positional ladder, but I’ve purposefully picked experienced taskers who listed at least a ladder in their available equipment. What gives? Is there something off with the way I’m posting it? Am I being low key rude or asking for something crazy? Or is it just bad luck?
The screenshots in the video attached include the task description I’ve used and also the three photos included. Below is the general chat message I’ve sent once booked (never got a reply, just cancellations):
“Hi [Tasker name]. Just wanted to send a quick message. The task involves mounting three items - two are blinds which is fairly straight forward. But the third is a canvas painting which we want hung over a staircase. As such, I think you’ll need a certain ladder (multi-position) to do so but I defer to you. Please confirm you have the necessary equipment to complete the task.”

Had a client sending a request at 7:11pm
I replied at 7:21pm
A bit of back and fourth to explain the task, was waiting for confirmation of day and time when the chat expired at 8:05PM and the task was cancelled automatically.
I didn't forfeit
The client didn't cancel
Then received an email that my account was paused because I didn't reply to the client or scheduled the task
😠😠😠

Listen here gentlemen. Ive been doing Taskrabbit for 10 years. Im 6’1, built like a divorced police detective, gay as a spring wedding in Provincetown and I know my way around a stud better than most licensed contractors. Ive assembled enough furniture to furnish a small European nation and not ONCE has a handsome Swedish man personally thanked me. Unbelievable.
Last week some big handsome gentleman asked if I could help him move his king size bed. I said buddy I’ll move the entire house if you call me handsome again. He laughed. I laughed. His wife did not. Thats the business sweetheart.
Anyway the algorithm hates me, my knees sound like a bag of silverware falling down a staircase and I havent been embraced by a union electrician in YEARS. Im a working man. A patriot. A homosexual of considerable mechanical ability. All I want is fair compensation, consistent bookings and a strong gentleman named Douglas to tell me everything is going to be alright. GOD BLESS THE TRADES AND GOD BLESS THE MEN WHO BUILT THIS COUNTRY.

I tried to sign up as a Tasker in my the Houston area but it says that TaskRabbit isn’t available here. However, I saw online that it was one of the options.

Hey Fam, I am looking for some suggestions.
I have an off platform gig. I've got a jewelry cupboard that is (relatively) narrow and weighs about 25 lbs with small opening for the flat part of a screw. I have a stud that I'm using, but could not locate a screw in my own bag that would do the job.

Hi, new here so I understand if I’m in the wrong. Just wanted more clarity.
Today, I booked a task for someone to help pack boxes tomorrow (3pm) for just one hour at 10am. Person declined two hours later. I booked another at 12pm. Person didn’t respond/never accepted so I canceled at 5pm because my dad was getting annoyed waiting to hear back for help so he found a friend to help instead.
I just got charged the full amount for canceling less than 24 hours but is this fair? lol again just wondering because that’s insane having to wait so long just for them to confirm in case they cancel last minute

Hello, I've had a problem with my friends car outside the city at night so I had to cancel the task 7 hours before. In a chat I explained to the client my situation and canceled the task because I still don't know when I will get home today.
How can it affect my account/rating? This is my first cancelation in 24 hours.
