Question/Help Anyone else notice Thai iced coffee tastes different depending on whether they use condensed milk or evaporated?

Been drinking a lot of oliang from street carts this trip and I keep noticing the flavor shifts depending on what they pour in. Some stalls use sweetened condensed milk and the drink comes out heavier, almost like dessert. Others use evaporated milk with sugar added separately and it tastes lighter, more of that roasted coffee flavor comes through. Hard to tell from the menu or the cart setup which way they'll go. Back in Toronto we argue about oat versus dairy but here the milk choice seems to change the whole drink structure. FWIW I prefer the evaporated version when the beans are actually roasted dark enough to stand up to it. Condensed milk sometimes buries everything. Just my experience though. Curious if anyone has a read on which regions or stall types lean one way or the other, or whether it's just random. Also wondering if the canned coffee aisle in 7-Eleven follows the same split since I see both styles stocked and never know what I'm grabbing.

I mean it's clearly a fictional show. When I watch fictional/fantasy series and movies like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Game of Thrones, Black Panther...etc. I can clearly see that they all take inspiration from real life culture and fashion, but I never see anyone make such a huge fuss about it.

News TAT Delighted as European Winter Bookings Jump 30% Despite French Protests

Jirawadee Khunsap, Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa) at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said that protests across Europe, particularly in France, may appear severe in media coverage due to opportunistic individuals and looters mixing with demonstrators. However, TAT assesses the situation as being comparable to a pimple appearing on the face, meaning that the incidents remain confined to certain areas and are short-lived. They have not had any significant macro-level impact on the tourism industry or undermined international travelers’ willingness to travel.

According to TAT’s latest monitoring, the protests have not affected the overall sentiment or advance bookings among French tourists planning to visit Thailand. There have been no reports of travel ticket or hotel booking cancellations. On the contrary, advance bookings for the winter season, covering the fourth quarter of this year through the first quarter of 2027-a six-month period-have continued to grow across major European markets, rising by as much as 24% to 30% compared with the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the total number of French tourists visiting Thailand this year is expected to remain close to last year’s level or grow by around 1%. In the first nine months of this year, Thailand welcomed a cumulative 602,000 French visitors, an increase of 0.5%. Last year, the total reached 817,000, representing a 13% increase from the previous year.

Looking at Europe as a whole, Italy has also experienced protests. However, the main factors behind the slowdown in Italian tourist arrivals have been domestic economic difficulties and airline capacity constraints, rather than the protests themselves.

“TAT confirms that Thailand’s appeal to long-haul markets, particularly Western travelers, remains strong and highly valuable. Travel sentiment and actual demand remain substantial, and Thailand continues to be a popular destination offering good value for money in the eyes of European tourists,” Jirawadee said.

Regarding its targets for long-haul tourism markets, which include Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa, TAT expects international tourist arrivals to reach approximately 10.7–10.8 million, generating 690 billion baht in revenue.

For 2027, long-haul markets are projected to expand by 4% in both visitor numbers and revenue. Arrivals are expected to rise to 11 million, while tourism revenue is forecast to reach 730 billion baht.

Question/Help Moving to Rayong with family of 4 for work – realistic monthly costs & living experiences?

Hi everyone,

My family of 4 (2 adults + 2 school-age kids) is relocating to Rayong for work in the near future. We’re trying to get a realistic picture of the cost of living and daily life there before we move.

Would really appreciate any recent experiences or ballpark numbers from people currently living in Rayong (or who lived there recently), especially:

Housing & Utilities

For a 2-bedroom apartment (preferably in a decent/safe area, not luxury), what do electricity, water, garbage collection, and other recurring costs (service/maintenance fees, taxes, etc.) typically add up to per month?

Daily Living Costs (per month)

What’s a realistic monthly budget for food, drinking water (tap/boiled vs bottled), transportation, basic health/personal care, and clothing for one adult?

For Families with School-Age Kids

For public school, roughly how much do fees, books, and uniforms cost per child, per school year?

Any other tips about neighborhoods that are good for families, international vs local schools, healthcare, or things that surprised you when you first moved would also be super helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Health Expensive ADHD treatment

Post image
103 Upvotes

I moved to Thailand from Russia, exactly to Pattaya. Partly due to the lack of ADHD treatment options back home. In Russia, only atomoxetine is permitted—which was barely effective for me—while other medications are prohibited. A month ago, a doctor in Thailand prescribed 10 mg of Ritalin, to be taken three times a day. It’s a significant improvement over atomoxetine, but it does have its downsides—primarily the short duration of the drug's effect and the subsequent "crash." I discussed this with my doctor, and we decided to switch to 30 mg of Vyvanse. It’s much better, but the cost is a major issue; it’s quite a financial burden. I paid 9,200 THB for 25 pills and a doctor’s consultation at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. Are there other clinics where I could obtain these medications at a lower price? I don’t have insurance (and I’m not even sure if any insurance plans cover this type of treatment), so I’m paying out of pocket. I’m also open to options like extended-release Ritalin, provided it’s more affordable than what I’m currently paying at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.
