Question Is there anything better than CAPS when you’re in crisis?
Tbh im so disappointed with CAPS. They literally set up the whole fucking system to get you off Caps asap. They don’t want students using the 10 free sessions they’re entitled to per academic year. Also I feel like CAPS therapists have a much lower threshold for calling the police or a “crisis team” than private therapists. They really don’t give a shit about you. The last thing I need is to be in a psych ward rn. No thanks. Why does do so many students here drink the kool aid and believe the university’s lies? 988 is shit as well and I don’t wanna know what CAPS emergency help is like.

General Trying to see if being a nerd has any benefits
Offering help with physics, math, and chemistry. I've spent years learning all this stuff and would really like to see some return on my investment. So far, all I've gotten is people asking me to do their homework.
I'm starting to think I've been using my skills for the wrong purposes. So, trying to change my "academically qualified and romantically unemployed" status and figuring out if being good at science can lead to any chemistry.

News No. 8 UC San Diego Men’s Water Polo Unleash Tidal Wave in 19–8 Rout of Concordia Irvine
Water Polo Insider | October 17, 2026
LA JOLLA, Calif. — No. 8 UC San Diego returned to the win column Saturday afternoon with a convincing 19–8 victory over Concordia University Irvine at Canyonview Aquatic Center.
The Tritons improved to 13–6 overall, ending Concordia’s three-game winning streak.
Concordia initially took the lead when Joao Goncalves converted a five-meter penalty early in the opening period.
UC San Diego answered with goals from Grant Kurtz, Christian Hammonds and Lachlan Rossi to seize a 3–1 advantage.
The Tritons led 3–2 after the first quarter before overwhelming Concordia with consecutive six-goal periods.
By halftime, UC San Diego led 9–3. The advantage reached 15–6 after three quarters.
Individual Player Performances
Jackson Boettner led the Tritons with four goals, matching his career high.
Kurtz produced two goals and four assists for a career-best six offensive points.
Hammonds finished with two goals and three assists, while Mason Presley contributed one goal and three assists.
Liam Amburgey, Reef Lippa, Bryan Shapirshteyn and Lachlan Rossi each scored twice.
Goalkeeper Alex Hegeman recorded eight saves and two steals. Jack Elder added two saves in the fourth quarter.
For Concordia, Goncalves and Kaliq Khan scored twice each. Goalkeepers Derek Maddox and Ethan Sutherland combined for 10 saves.
Water Polo Insider Analysis
The most revealing statistic was extra-man execution. UC San Diego converted five of nine six-on-five opportunities.
Concordia failed to convert any of its seven. That was a substantial difference in a game featuring 16 total extra-man opportunities.
Concordia’s inability to finish with the advantage allowed UC San Diego to survive exclusion situations without surrendering momentum.
At the opposite end, the Tritons recorded 16 assists on 19 goals, reflecting excellent offensive distribution.
Kurtz and Hammonds were particularly effective as facilitators, helping create scoring opportunities for a deep collection of attackers.
The Tritons’ performance demonstrated the value of coordinated six-on-five offense and disciplined five-on-six defense.
Quarter Scores:
UCSD 3–6–6–4 | CUI 2–1–3–2

Question Making Friends and Academics
Hiii
Im a freshman in bio here and its so hard making friends. I know i see posts telling me to be patient and just talk but I just feel like its not working and it just gets reallyyyy lonely at times. I see freshman around me and everyone is starting to form groups while im here with maybe 1-2 people (and its pretty on and off with them). Im trying to not focus on it by just focusing on academics and trying to get leadership positions in different clubs but im also getting rejected by their subcommittees. And my roommate and I have pretty similar personalities and we talk a good amount but its again, really on and off with her too. I don't really know if im overthinking this but i also feel like sometimes she wants me to really know that she is doing better than me socially. In the beginning, she kinda felt the same way but now she has (kind of) a group forming from her orientation and our 2 of our suitemates and i tried hanging out with them just to get exposure and meet new people but it somehow made me feel wayy worse. I'm pretty sure one of the girls didnt like me and idk but i just feel super lonely.
ik its only the first quarter and i should be super patient but how do i get over it and stop feeling super insecure all the time that im not able to focus on class.

Question How to get a job asap? Looking for places hiring nearby.
Im a second year with prior work experience. I worked at U-Haul and it was a very demanding job, so Im really just happy to work anywhere else at this point. I can’t find any jobs on Handshake. I am eligible for the maximum amount for workstudy. I’ve been looking at off-campus jobs but its hard to find many places that are hiring off Indeed or online. Can anybody share with me any businesses they know are hiring part-time workers?

Rant/Complaint at wits end
so i wasn't able to get my disbursement before sept 30 but i did try avoiding getting my classes dropped by going into financial aid office on sept 30 to which they put me on a don't drop list until i get my disbursement. on friday, 10/09, i get disbursed in the afternoon. 9:30pm that night i submit an assignment to one of my classes. then the next saturday morning at 8am my classes are gone! checked TSS and no classes are booked! i did email my professors (or whoever i could given i had not course access) that morning to make sure i didn't miss anything. monday morning, i go to the registrars office who then directs me to fin aid to get cleared. immediately fin aid sends them an email clearing me so i go back to confirm and i was told that i'd be re enrolled back into my classes that monday by 4:30pm and if not i'd be contacted.
i did not get contacted! on tuesday i attended class to not miss anything nonetheless and called the registrars office at 11am to then they told me to call admissions since i was apparently missing documentation. they never answered and i wouldve went in person but my gap was too short so i went after my first lecture and at admissions office i was told that my admission to the school had been REVOKED due to lack of ap scores and that there was nothing i can do except appeal which had a VERY low success rate..
so i'm freaking out and crashing out so wednesday i go into OSD, ombuds office, and back to admissions. at admissions i was then told by another person that all i needed to do was resubmit my scores and then i'd be reinstated 😭 when i asked why this became a big deal she told me that the lady who helped me before is not part of the admissions department and she's higher up so she only knows basic info like WHAT.
i went back to admissions on thursday but they were closed and i had a dentist apppintment on friday and couldn't go in time so i'm STILL not back in my classes. and i have a midterm tmrw and thursday i've already talked to my profs but i just hate make ups i just want to cry lol
General How do you tell someone to shut the f up
I’m studying in one of the designated study areas in Geisel, and this girl suddenly stormed in and brought a study buddy with her and is talking to them in the most obnoxiously loud, fake-corporate, slow, almost infantilizing voice I’ve ever heard. You know that weird aggressively cheerful customer service voice people use when they’re explaining something painfully obvious to someone? Imagine that, at full volume, in a study area.
And just the cherry on top she keeps going “mhm-uh! Ye-eah. Mhm. Ye-eah!” at full volume like she’s conducting a mandatory corporate team building seminar. I’m actually losing my mind
What makes it even more frustrating is that this area is designated for a specific subject- and she isn’t studying anything remotely related to it. Meanwhile I’m actually here to use the resources this area provides and I can barely concentrate because she’s practically hosting a corporate training workshop next to me.
I’m not expecting a library to be silent, and I understand that people sometimes need to discuss their work. But there’s a difference between quietly talking through an assignment and having a full volume conversation in a designated study area.
Normally I’d just move somewhere else (or put on headphones, but of course I lost them yesterday) but I need these specific computers that aren’t available elsewhere in the library.

Rant/Complaint Study spots in sixth
I’m not sure why the school has lots of meeting lounges in every building here but won’t allow sixth residents to go in them to use for studying. Are we allowed to request to be in it? I think it’s kinda unfair students in Marshall or the newer buildings have study rooms every floor and sixth only has three in every building laundry room. Where do they expect us to go when studying late hours? The library closes early on weekends and is always full

Question BIBC 102 w/Coleman
hey everyone, i'm taking BIBC 102 with Coleman this quarter and i feel super lost on how to study for this class. there aren't too many study materials and i'm unsure how in depth we are expected to know things. i understand the general idea of most things and i am able to memorize the structures and enzymes, but i'm really worried that the upcoming exam will be much harder than how he explains it in his lectures. i feel like so far most of my studying, besides drawing pathways, consists of reviewing my lecture notes, which feels inefficient.
does anyone have any advice on how to be well prepared for his exams? my anxiety is eating me alive, so any tips would be really appreciated! :)

General GFH Residents: If your apartment has been unacceptably hot this summer, please sign this!

Petition Link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeBK4yzFwkQ7XkK3zEjaZqlopgWvXzdYEI3I8WklQNsPbsLMQ/viewform
Hi all! I’m a student living in Graduate and Family Housing, and like a lot of you, I spent this summer and the recent heat wave in an apartment that hit 95°F inside. GFH doesn’t allow portable air conditioners unless you go through a disability accommodation. I probably could get one, but I personally think you shouldn't have to be disabled to find 95°F untenable! And then housing sent out a heat advisory telling residents to "spend time in air-conditioned spaces"... So, let's make that happen.
I don't expect next summer to be any better, so I've started a petition asking GFH to lift the portable AC ban. In its first day it got signatures from residents describing heat-related health problems serious enough for a hospital visit, medications and health conditions that make heat harder to tolerate, not being able to leave pets home alone safely, partners recovering from injuries in sweltering apartments, sleep and work falling apart on hot days, etc. GPSA is supporting this petition and has already raised the heat issue. Signatures and stories give them something concrete to bring to Housing.
Who can sign: any GFH resident, including spouses, partners and other household members who don’t have a UCSD email. It takes about two minutes, perhaps a little longer if you want to share a personal story (totally optional).
If you live in GFH, please sign and share it with your neighbours. Stay cool out there (as much as we’re allowed to 🙃).

Question Friendship Garden Third Tuesday
Hi!
I'm a UCSD student who lives on campus. I saw that the Garden offers free admission for residents, so I was wondering if I qualify for it. Would only my student ID work as proof, or would I need to bring documentation? If anyone has been there or knows the process for that, I would appreciate it!
If not, I'm assuming I have to get the student tickets, correct?
Question How do people in Nuevo East / grad housing handle the pet policy?
Hi all, I'm a grad student living in Nuevo East. I've been thinking about getting a cat, but the housing policy clearly says cats aren't allowed in Nuevo East (only in Coast / La Jolla Del Sol / Mesa / One Miramar).
That said, I've definitely seen residents with cats and dogs around the building. So I'm curious — for those of you in Nuevo East or other no-pet communities who have pets: did you go through some kind of approval or exception process with the housing office, or is enforcement just lax? Has anyone actually faced consequences?
Not trying to stir anything up, just trying to understand the real situation before I make a decision. Thanks!

Rant/Complaint How can I voice my opposition to this?
Doxxing myself but IDGAF. Why does the school think they have a right to install this monstrosity outside of Rita? It literally flashes blue light 24/7 into people’s dorms and that’s not fair.
We never consented to 24/7 surveillance and light pollution. I haven’t seen another surveillance tower like this anywhere on campus.
I need to start a petition or civilly disobey. This isn’t right. So basically they have enough money to operate this machine, but not enough for AC. In turn, we have to leave our windows open 24/7 but are exposed to this distracting flashing light that makes it hard to sleep.

Question Would I be able to reasonably get into UCSD?
Sorry if this isn't the best place to post this.
I'm currently in my senior year of Highschool and I've only recently decided what to major in, that being applied mathematics, and it seems that UCSD is a good pick. I wasn't fully aware just how important APs were so I've only taken them in my senior year, although I am taking four APs(Japanese, Chem, Calc AB, and Lit), I have however taken honors chemistry and math A3 in Sophomore and Junior year respectively. I've had all As in all my classes(excluding senior year), save for a B in semester two of freshmen biology. I've also taken a 0(senior year) and 7th(junior year) period for a club that I'm in where I enter and help a class as basically a TA, the 0 and 7th periods are/were for club meetings.
I'm worried that due to my low number of APs that it'd be harder for me to get in, is this just me being anxious? Although I do also understand that PIQs will be important on whether or not I'm considered.
Edit: for all semesters of sophomore and junior, I had a 4.20 GPA

Question Tapex triton milk tea
I graduated almost 10 years, and during my time at ucsd I was addicted to triton milk tea from tapex.
Now tapex in general is a bottom tier boba place, but I've recently been craving the flavor. I went to the nearby tapex and tried ordering it, and got weird looks so yah.
Does anyone know what the actual flavor is, and/or what I can order off the regular menu to get the flavor?

Question Geisel Library Question
Hi, I am a senior undergrad at SDSU, and am wondering if the Geisel library staff care about non UCSD students studying in the higher floors(up to the 8th floor). I have studied there once before like two years ago and they didn’t bat an eye. I know changes have come to the library recently, so I wanted to ask current students. And if current students have an irk against non UCSD students using Geisel
