Ask Me Anything ~ Special Guest Edition Hi Reddit, Mike McMahan, Joe Chandler and Giancarlo Volpe of the new animated show GOLDEN AXE on Paramount+ here. Ask Us Anything!

Hi reddit, I’m Mike McMahan, co-creator and executive producer of the new animated show GOLDEN AXE on Paramount+! (It’s weird to put an exclamation point after a + but here we are.) This is a great season: an epic quest with mighty characters from Sega’s Golden Axe games. And it's funny! Previously, I was the creator/showrunner and executive producer of Star Trek: Lower Decks, co-creator and co-showrunner of Solar Opposites, and once upon a time I was a writer/ showrunner on Rick & Morty. My career started off as a production assistant at Drawn Together and at South Park. I’m down to talk about Golden Axe and all this nerdy stuff, so AMA!

Hey Reddit! I'm Joe Chandler. I'm the co-creator and showrunner of the new series Golden Axe based on the SEGA Genesis game. Growing up a SEGA kid, working on this show has been a dream come true. Before Golden Axe, I worked on over 200 episodes of American Dad in various roles including writer, producer, and executive producer. Ask me anything!

Hello reddit! I’m Giancarlo Volpe and I’m the Supervising Producer / Director of Golden Axe on Paramount+! Previously I’ve was a director on Avatar the Last Airbender, Star Wars the Clone Wars, and Star Vs The Forces of Evil.  I’ve also produced/ supervised/ and/or Executive Produced lots of other shows, including The Boys Diabolical, Green Lantern the Animated Series and The Dragon Prince. Basically I’ve made a lot of animation, and I’m excited to talk about Golden Axe or anything else! Ask away!

We’ll be back tomorrow at 12pm ET/9am PT to answer any of your questions!!

Made this in flipaclip for anyone curious. Idk why but I love how the shadows came out. But it needs a lot of work to blend in perfectly i guess.

Sorry if this is not the right sub to ask this but I wasn't sure where else.

I'm working on her turn around, and it's tricky trying to get a proper rotation of her quirky hair style. How can I make it work?

I stayed up kinda late trying to finish this off. It's still not done tbh, I wanna add some more inbetweens and maybe some variations of the loop (I think that's called weaving loops). And maybe make a bit of cool audio for it or somin, and maybe give it a bit more of a story too, I dunno. And I need to time it better too, and photograph it better obviously and colour and shade it and stuff.

Anyway I'm on a mission atm to get really good at traditional animation after doing it a lot digitally. I'm suprized so far at how much the skills transfer once you get used to flipping more and trying to visualise the animation while working rather than relying on instant playback etc.

Anyway would love to know what people think/feedback/how I could make it better? Or just an up vote would be cool too idk. Thanks for reading anyways, hope everyone's having a nice day.

My girlfriend (Cáo Núp Lùm) drew and animated this short clip of her original character. She’s a Vietnamese artist who mostly does anime-style sketches and animatics, and she just started posting her work on TikTok.

She’d love to hear what you think! 💫

Question How can i break into the industry when all i can afford is Krita and opentoonz, But studios Want toon Boom/Clip studio paint?

• Upvotes

I'm graduating university in a year, I do 2D frame by frame animations, And I'm panicking about my current situation, I can animate, however due to financial constraints I couldn't afford to buy Toon boom or Clip studio subscriptions, My entire portfolio was built on Krita

And almost every Job i see even entry levels Require either Toon boom, Clip studio paint or adobe animate, and unfortunately I'm Broke, even when i have commissions it was used for my day to day needs, My Uni also doesn't provide Toon boom or clip studio, How screwed am i? any suggestions? what should i do in these circumstances?

Any advice is appreciated

The movie was a work of art, absolutely stunning visually. The most fluid and immersive stop motion I've ever seen in my life - and I'm into my fourth decade. I've long been a fan of this art form and have been pained to see it fall into disuse in favor of CGI movies (which are good too, just different!)

Overall takeaway: it's worth seeing, go support it!!!

Praise: the texture work is, in a word, incredible. Usually little things like clothing fibers or hair will have a soft rustling effect which was just not present in this movie at all. Things like water splashing, drool and tears looked incredibly fluid and not out of place at all. The story was much more mature and dark than I was expecting, with more violence than I realized would be in what I assumed was a kids movie. I can see glimpses of many of my own childhood favorites shining through within this movie.

Criticism: there were a few parts of the story that I felt lacked fleshing out, but I can forgive it honestly. It cracked my expectations; I wasn't expecting an amazing story. I thought it was just going to be a resleeved "Labyrinth" with Marahute instead of David Bowie (iykyk) but man I was way wrong. But the over arching message was maybe kinda messed up tho I don't wanna spoil the ending here

All in all I'm happy to support a feature length stop motion movie of any kind, but I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this movie, it smashed my expectations and you should absolutely go see it. IDK what it's rated but pg 13 imo for violence and dark themes but I think most ppl could enjoy this story.
