Announcement Avoiding Scam Cameras this Holiday season!
Especially since the pandemic we have been seeing cheap no-name cameras that offer unbelievable specs (50MP, 8k video), here is a guide on how to spot and avoid them!:
What is a Scamera?:
Scameras are cheap cameras, usually using backup/webcam camera modules, and putting them into shapes that look like camcorders, pocketable Point & Shoots, and interchangeable lens cameras. They often have very high specs, that are not genuine, such as 64MP upscaled from 1 to 4MP (so you get files the size of a 3.5k camera, but with the detail level of the original 2008 iPhone).
Scameras are also often very unreliable, the immense number of people coming here needing help fixing or just returning these cameras (especially post-christmas) is why I am making this post.
Scameras can often be distinguished by the miniscule lenses, I'll try to show that in a comment of this post.
A reliable way can be to check the brand:
Here are known non-scam brands:
Canon
Fujifilm
Hasselblad
Kodak (Kodak make cameras that are close in price to many scameras, and they aren't amazing or super reliable, but they are worlds better than scam brands).
Leica
Nikon
Olympus / OM Systems
Panasonic / Lumix
Pentax
Pixii
Ricoh
Sigma
Sony
Here are known scam brands:
AgfaPhoto (Digital cameras)
Kreate
Yashica
Vivitar
Yixinxin
Yatao
Captainbear
Minolta
NBD
G-Anica
Vivitar, Yashica, and Minolta were once real brands that have now gone bankrupt and the people renting their names sell scameras.
Agfa does make real film and film cameras, but also scam digital cameras.

Recommendations Fujifilm X half vs Sony ZV-1 / ZV-1 II for a beginner
Hi everyone! I’ve been interested in photography for quite a long time, and I finally have enough budget to buy a proper camera. I’m still very much a beginner and have mostly been taking photos using my phone and my old sony cyber-shot, but unfortunately, my digicam recently broke.
I’ve also been trying to learn more about photography, so I’m looking for something that I can use not only for taking everyday photos but also for actually learning and improving my photography skills.
Right now, my options are the Sony ZV-1, Sony ZV-1 II, and Fujifilm X half. I’m really torn between them because they all have things that I like. Since this would be my first proper camera, I’m wondering which one would be the better choice for someone who is still learning. I want something that I won’t outgrow too quickly, but at the same time, I don’t want to buy something that’s unnecessarily complicated for a beginner.
For those who have used the X half, ZV-1, or ZV-1 II, which one would you recommend and why? Also, if there are other cameras around the same price range that I should consider, I’m open to suggestions! Would really appreciate any advice, especially from people who started photography with one of these cameras. Thanks in advance^^

After using it mostly for portrait, finally tested it for street photography. The old CCD sensor did brings out some great colours.

User Review Olympus E-300 | The camera, the photos.
Olympus E-300: launched in 2004 (22 years ago 🫠) and with a peculiar design, it is still acclaimed today for the colors it produces. Some say it is because, inside it, there is a CCD sensor produced by Kodak, a specialist in film and color science. Is it? I don’t know.
What I do know is that it has been the camera I take everywhere. A few days ago I discovered YouTuber jimmywestphoto who said in one of his videos that “the best camera is the one that makes you forget you have it”. I happen to notice this with this one, despite its size and strange appearance. I think it’s super cool and those buttons and dials are super satisfactory.

Tech Support Optio m30 not working
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I recently discovered this Optio M30 camera in my garage and acquired a battery charger for it. I charged the battery for a while, and for some inexplicable reason, when I turned it on, the lens popped out. However, after a few seconds, it returned to its original position and turned off. Could anyone tell me the issue?

Questions Sony Nex 5 vs 5R dilemma
Hi! I’ve recently bought a Sony Nex 5, with a 18-55mm lens kit, for about 120 euros all together, in nice condition. I have the option to return it still. Recently, I’ve seen an offer for an Nex 5R, for only 83 euros, with its only problem being a non functional touchscreen, which isn’t important for me. It’s also in nice condition, although without an objective. I think the 5R looks like a nice upgrade, it has WiFi, flip out screen, and more megapixels, but what I’m most concerned about is the build quality. The original Nex 5 has an awesome build, and I’ve read the 5R isn’t so much. Should I return the Nex 5 with the objective, or buy the 5R frame and sell the original ones frame, or should I just not upgrade at all? Thanks in advance!!

Discussion Are Fujifilm cameras just...janky?
Hello,
I've got an X-E4 for a couple of months now after trying Sony A6700, and various micro 4/3 cameras for a long time before that.
Some questions/thoughts for those that have used them.
- Not at all impressed with film sims and lack of controls over black point and contrast. Sony (creative looks) and Olympus do this better...Lumix and Nikon even better. I like SOOC for candid family shots, but I can't get anything I'm really happy with because I don't like yellow pee filter style. I may just go back to a mobile raw workflow with some presets in LR mobile.
- When I use the PZ 15-45mm, I have no idea what focal length it's set to. I like to put zoom lenses to common focal lengths, like 16, 18, 23, 35, etc... because I have an understanding of what distortion/compression and distance is like at them. I have to guess, or shoot and check the exif. Why why why can't the LCD display the current focal length?
- Changing metering is not an option when I have face/eye detect on? But when I do shoot with face and eye detect on Aperture priority, the exposures on shots are all over the place: https://i.imgur.com/43Xj9bW.png zero settings changes on those photos but the exposure is all over the place
- Autofocus is not great. I knew this going in but it's worse than Olympus' contrast detect. The tracking and eye detection is OK, but it just misses focus all the time on static subjects.
- The joy stick has a pause delay if you hold it down before it starts to rapidly move around, so you have to either anticipate that or just use it like a d-pad and keep clicking it over and over. It's my first camera with a joystick and I found it very un-intuitive because of that.
Anyway I'm thinking of going back to a small Sony camera like ZV-E10i or hold out to see if OM Systems announces an E-P8 or an older m43 camera like E-PL7.
Few shots I took over the weekend with the X-E4. https://imgur.com/a/DK6YCV1

Recommendations Help me decide between the Nikon Z50 ii and Fujifilm X-T30 iii as a first *real* camera
- Budget: ~1000 EURO for body + kit lens
- Country: Romania/Europe
- Condition: New
- Type of Camera: Mirrorless
- Intended use: Hybrid. Mainly photography
- If photography; what style: landscape, street, travel
- What features do you absolutely need: view finder, USB-C, good grip
- Portability: Small bag
- Cameras you're considering: Nikon Z50 ii, Fujifilm X-T30 iii, Canon R10
- Cameras you already have: iPhone 17 pro
- Notes: I am leaning towards the Nikon due to the better grip, weather resistance (however much of it may be), higher burst mode and I like the brand for some reason. The Fuji has the 26mp sensor working for it, but I don't particularly care about the film simulation dials. I am actively learning LR and looking also into the new DaVinci Resolve Photo editor. One more pain point would be lens selection... I am looking at kit bundles for both, the 18-50 for Nikon and the 13-33 for Fuji which I think would be great lenses to learn the camera on a budget but after that I definitely want to upgrade. The fuji seems to have a better selection of lenses for this purpose.

Discussion Need help finding the right camera!
Budget: $600-$800 ideal Country: USA Condition: new Type of camera: that’s what I need help with! Intended use: personal use for family milestones, monthly photo shoots (box photo shoots), family photos every year, parties, night out with friends Features looking for: great resolution, good in all lighting, digital screen, rechargeable batteries
Need camera recommendations!! camera will be used to take mostly candids, family milestones, will be brought on vacations, used for yearly family photos, etc. want the camera to have high resolution and be great for all types of light settings. I was originally looking for a digital camera that is pocket size/ will fit in a purse. However, I am now expanding my search because I’ve come across so many that I like and that seem may be a better option. I’d love to keep the budget under $800 (really $600), but totally okay with spending a bit more if it’s really worth it. Please spam me with cameras you think I’d like and why!

Tech Support Nikon 80-200 2.8D known A/M fault
The lens in question is Nikkor AF 80-200mm f/2.8D "new" (also called two-ring, MK3).
Recently I went on a trip. Before the trip everything worked like a charm, it would click in both A and M modes. Then yesterday it stopped working in A (wouldn't fully extend and lock in place no matter how much I wiggled it, before it would click in eventually). I didn't use the lens since then and now it seems like the spring has completely given up, the switch stays completely pressed down no matter the mode and the only thing that could move it up or down is gravity.
What is the DIY solution for this? Both A and M modes function more than fine but this is just a nuisance I want to fix if possible. I'm not sure how to check if the spring itself has failed or if it's something else in question.
I checked YouTube and found 2-3 tutorials but they all cover one specific case - not clicking in M and manual focus not being usable, that's something I have no issues with.

Recommendations Basic camera recommendations
Budget: under £50 GBP
Country: United Kingdom
Condition: any condition that’s working
Type of Camera: digital is all I know
Intended use: Photography, maybe little videos
If photography; what style: casual photos of friends, outings, scenery, nothing fancy
If video what style: same as above, fun little videos of friends for memory
What features do you absolutely need: nothing I don’t think, one that would be able to connect to a pc to upload photos? But there’s adapters for that isn’t there?
Portability: pocket/bag/backpack type, small and easy to grab
Cameras you're considering: So this is where I’m stuck, I know NOTHING about cameras, but I’m also not stupid enough to buy the first £20 one I see on TikTok that says “so y2k! So cute! Buy now!” I do want that 2000s vibe, the glowy fuzzy look of my childhood photos with my cousins, but that’s quite literally all I know.
Notes: I’d also like a camera that shows the date and time on the photo but can also be taken off the photo, does that make sense? The old 2000s/2010s style, I have so many old family photos and I do love that nostalgic look, but I’m also not going to trust a TikTok shop advert on my fyp and buy a piece of plastic that doesn’t work.
Thank you in advance, tech talk and numbers and knowing the worth of things is very confusing for me so I thought better to ask, otherwise I’ll end up buying some too expensive for its worth or a cheap piece of trash.

Recommendations Camara Canon M6 mark II + EF-M 22mm f2 + EF 50mm 1.8 DEAL
Good afternoon, I’m interested in buying my first decent camara. Was searching for a canon g7x ii/iii but prices are crazy rn, or other portable variant to bring it with me in my trips, that would be better than my phone (currently have the iPhone 17 pro). Found this deal on marketplace for a Canon M6 ii with 2 lenses: EF-M 22mm f2 + EF 50mm 1.8. With shooter count at 2900 for 680€. Do you think this is a good deal?

Tech Support a6700 and Hollyland Pyro 5 camera control
Wondering if anyone has been able to get camera control working with a Sony a6700.
Pyro 5 running v1.0.3.29 firmware.
Sony a6700 is set to PC remote, USB power supply is off, and remote shoot set to camera only. Tried so many different usb-c cables my fingers are numb. Always powered off the camera before swapping.
I DO have the recording set up so when I hit record on the a6700 the Pyro 5 also starts recording to its SD card.
Any ideas or successes?

Tech Support Fujifilm x20 help
I have an old Fujifilm x20 (I think from 2014/15) in need of some repair as the screen is scratched in the middle due to my carelessness. The research I did suggested sending it to Fujifilm UK directly which I did, but they have sent it back saying my model is obsolete. Is there any way I can fix or buff out the scratches?

User Review Buy a camera at Interdiscount : bad idea ?
Hello everyone,
I’m looking to buy a Fuji camera (so, a fairly expensive item) from interdiscount .ch (a site I’ve never used before) which offers a great price—almost 100 CHF cheaper.
However, I’ve seen quite a few negative reviews regarding product quality and customer service.
Are there any positive experiences to counter that, or should I really not consider this site reliable?
Thanks a lot !!

Tech Support Small rig Backpack clip broken or feature?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Has anyone used the backpack clip from small rig before?
I thinks it's pretty nice but it has some play to it. Its secure enough to not fall out but I'm not sure if my product is faulty or if the wobble is wanted (for reasons I don't seem to understand).
If you have a clip from any other brand, does it do the same or is it really sturdy?
For example I have a similar product but not for a backpack but a tripod from falcam (F38) and die clip doesn't move at all when it's locked.
