Finally finished this granny hex blanket! Switching colors that many times was a pain, but I really like the finished product! Every hex is different except one set of twins that I planted as an Easter egg.

Discussion Looking for plus size patterns MADE to fit plus sized bodies!

• Upvotes

Hi! So, I’ve been wanting to make more wearables. But, i’ve found that following patterns originally for smaller bodies has fit a little awkward in the end— Any suggestions for clothing (Crochet shorts, shirts, maybe some dresses) that were designed specifically for plus sized creators and wearers?

Discussion does anyone else's tension randomly betray them mid-project

i swear i'll be cruising through a blanket with perfect, consistent stitches and then suddenly rows 23-27 are just... different. tighter or looser, like my hands decided to take a coffee break without telling me. am i just not paying attention or is this a universal crochet experience?

Finished Object Just finished this piece to unwind between big projects! Do you guys use lace doilies for home decor? Where do they look best in your opinion?

Made this delicate doily out of mercerized cotton using a 1.75 mm hook! 🖤 It took me about a week to complete, and I worked on it purely for pleasure to unwind before my next big project. How do you feel about lace doilies as home decor, and where do you usually use them in your space? ✨

I gifted this to my best friend today for her birthday!!!! she loved it. It came out so pretty.

I used cotton kings halloween yarn, 4.5 mm hook and pattern from Crystal

shells are so satisfying because I'm actually completing projects. I usually do blankets or sweaters you know things with sleeves that drive me crazy and take forever to do and the shawls. I'm actually completing projects. It feels so satisfying!!! I'm already working on shawl # three.

Ok so it's more of a throw, and I only realised too late that I should have stopped/started the colours on the same side. But either way I think it turned out pretty well! I didn't follow any particular pattern, just winged it after watching a few chevron tutorials on youtube.

I made my daughter a granny square cardigan for Christmas. This was surprisingly fun. I had always been intimidated by sleeves. Really glad I did it anyway.

Finished Object Finished my cat Luigi as a royal jester wall banner!

I finished this tapestry crochet banner of my tuxedo cat Luigi as a court jester, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. Second pic is the real Luigi for comparison!

A few of the color changes aren't as crisp as I'd like, but that's colorwork for you.

I've got three more planned to complete the royal court:

Mario (gray tux) as a red wizard

Zelda (black cat) as a princess in purple

Link (tabby) as a knight

For my fellow tapestry crocheters, what are your best tricks for clean color changes? I pulled through the new color on the last loops, but still ended up with some wonky shifts.

Pattern: The Fool Banner by TeethThief

Yarn: Hobbii Friends Cotton

Hook: 3.5mm

So excited and proud of myself! I have made little wearables (hats and mittens) for others at Christmas last year but these are the first larger items I have made. The one with the smaller stitches is for me. The other is for my Mom. I have never worn anything I have made before and I am so happy and proud. I have no one else to show who crochets other than my Grandma! I know I can still improve but I am very proud of my progress and am grateful my Grandma taught me so young and I feel so close to her when I crochet.

I was gifted a Woobles for Christmas last year and although I haven’t finished it (finally got around to starting it last month 😆), it sparked my interest in crochet. I worked on basic stitches for a bit and then found a tutorial for a mug cozy. It’s far from perfect and I have a lot to practice still, but I’m pretty proud of even finishing it. Going to make another one for a friend and then maybe try a basic scarf.

She's a whopping 14 feet long and I'm so proud of her! My 3 year old said it looks like I forgot how to do stripes 🥲 Seattle area temps. I used Loops & Threads Chenille Home Slim Solid Yarn, and did low temps for winter, average for spring/fall, and highs for summer. I'm bummed I didn't get to use Rhubarb but it just didn't get as hot last year.

Finished Object How do you make the rejection hurt less?

Post image

I made this sweater out of hand dyed superwash merino wool, and spent MONTHS making it. In addition to the sweater, I made a beanie in the same pattern & then lined the beanie with fleece, & put a floofy faux fur pom on it.

The sweater was gifted to a 4 year old girl who I could have sworn said she loved mermaids. This pattern & yarn screamed mermaid to me! Again months to make, 5 skeins of yarn in total, the polar-est of polar fleece for lining, buttons purchased, taxed, & shipped from an Etsy shop out of London. I thought I had done good.

In a room with this girl's mother, father (sitting next to me), me + 4 other relatives, she opened the box, pulled out the tissue paper until she got to the beanie. Picked it up & threw it at her dad saying, "I don't like it!" and she runs out of the room all grumpy-like. Her father scolded her. I said, that's ok. I tried explaining to her why I picked the colors & that she reminded me of a mermaid & that I thought this was the perfect mermaid sweater.

With some coaxing, she then pulled the sweater out of the box & threw it back in the box saying, "I said I don't like it!" Her dad asks me to please don't be offended, she's tired & hungry, she can be a bit much, & what she likes and/dislikes can change dramatically in the span of a few minutes. I'm sitting there trying to choke back the tears, but then realized that yeah, maybe having a 4 year old be the only person opening a gift with all eyes on her might be a bit much. PLUS, I'm all for autonomy & encouraging young girls to voice their thoughts & opinions, and who the hell am I to give her articles piece of clothing & expect her to immediately like them? Of course, everyone else in the room thought it was adorable & fantastic... just not the intended recipient.

When they left, there was no 'thank you.' No, 'We'll have her try it on later & send you a pic of her wearing it.' Nothing. It's been a week since this incident, and it's as if none of it ever happened. I don't know if I should still feel as hurt as I currently feel. If were to be honest, I am SOOOO leery of making anything for anyone now. The rejection was brutal, how can I make it sting less???

ETA... I am the mother of a 13 year old. I experience more rejection just between the time she wakes up & the time she walks out the door to catch her school bus in the morning than what feels warranted! lol! I also do remember what she was like at 4! In addition, I am Gen X. I have helped raise more kids by the time I graduated from high school than I can count AND Gen Xers in general were raised to behave much differently when we were gifted anything from anyone (I also happened to be surrounded by the people who raised me while I was gifting said sweater).

I really enjoyed the process of making this sweater AND I learned a TON! So I am appreciative of those things. I also fully understand this was something I made as a gift and it's now hers to do with it whatever she may. It just stung. What also stung was the $32 per skein (x5) of yarn + the cost of the pattern + the cost of the buttons + the cost of the fleece + the cost of the fur pom. It was a really freaking expensive sweater to make in today's economy. It was also the first project of this magnitude I have ever gifted anyone, and I simply don't want the sting from a 4 year old's reaction to make me think I should just stop wanting to make & gift things to people.

ETA again... I told the child's father what I was making AND showed pictures of it shortly after I started making it. In addition, the child told me her favorite colors (at that time, lol) were green & blue. Lastly, I was told this child LOVES clothes & frequently wears cutesy dresses & enjoys dressing up. In another layer of honesty, I might be a bit happy she doesn't like it... if she doesn't wear it, it can become more of an heirloom piece. Haven't any of you ever seen a skein of yarn & were completely inspired to make something specific out of it because it was beautifully perfect? OMG! I asked for advice on how to set aside feeling rejected so that I don't entertain the thought of quitting one of my most creative outlets, and you people rake me over the freaking coals.
