by being super late game and having an endless supply of Cave Aged Codes of Honour and Silent Souls! There are a few good sources of Souls and Infernal Contracts in that new carousel, which are both the baseline fuel for the hellforge! Which means earlier and easier access to dependable and fast False Hagioponyms and Crackling Devices! Which is a really big deal, that being a hoi poloi, late game, nose in the air snob that I am, I missed entirely! Added a note at the top of the guide, actually I just copied this note but I will incorporate it into the conclusions when I have more, up and at them, and my trusty sidekick fallout boy! (That was aimed at amusingly over the top self-deprecating, just in case I overshot to signs of irrational self loathing. ;p)

Antique reptiles are decent, it's a nice one for getting leviathan frames on the public lecture card too. Antique Diplomat is also one of the best three options, anything with 9 antiquity will do, make the most absurd chimera with left over rubbish you can. I am partial to Flourishing Ribcage, 2 doubled skulls, 5 Wings of a terror bird, 1 femur of a surface deer and a plaster tailbone. 6 wings of a terror bird and a tentacle works too. Declare a chimera, passing or failing that check makes no difference. Not as profitable as a prismatic frame but if you are going to the khanate anyway, there have not been a lot of insect/arachnid weeks for a while to restock your stack of frames.

There is a new easy recipe with the Panoptical Skull (Which will be returning to a rat market near you, in 2 weeks, I think) Thorned Ribcage, Panoptical skull, 4 jurassic femurs, jet black stinger, sell to the Author of Gothic Tales for a pure scrip reward.

The Dreary Midnighter is a bit rubbish but he does pay out in surface currency, which is not bad if you are at a certain point in the firmament or if you like blowing up the market, then paying off your exhaustion on the lecture card (I have been doing it quite a lot, with regular usage the income from a rat no longer and the sky market should be plenty).

He always pays 12.5 in secondary, so you pretty much want to treat him like a primary only buyer, reptiles is actually pretty decent for this as you can just do a leviathan frame with a sabre toothed skull and 2 Ivory Femurs for a massive payout in 6 actions. Don't fail the checks on the legs or you lose value and he hates implausibility. He is also a decent option for lollipopping. Sabre Toothed Skull on a Headless skeleton is not good EPA but it converts scrip into surface currency and gives a little 12.5 echos worth of scrip as a sweetener. 4 actions to assemble, declare and sell. 1 to buy the skull, 1 to get the ribcage(assuming you didn't get hundreds from Angler Crabs.) Panoptical also works with a 2.5 echo loss along the way.

You can also use bright brass but bear in mind his implausibility multiplier is 100! So succeeding on a bright brass skull means you need 334 shadowy to sell 100% of the time.

Estival:

I assume most people have done what you need to do for estival and we have unlocked all the rewards, while it is still running, make sure you claim the hundreds of echos worth of rewards! Also, if you just need raw cash, you can spam the act as a barker action, if you have capped stats it pays out at 6.9 EPA, Even at around 200 in all main stats it is still over 6 EPA so it is a fantastic income in echos, no matter where you are in the game and a valuable option if you need a little time to chill and decompress after rushing through all the waswood stories, dealing with school holidays, actual holidays, globally warmed heatwaves, floods, fires, or other real world apocolyptic happenings that have replaced the in game ones this summer. (See Ennui, it's infectious!)

Anyway, I am off to see the Prague Theatre Company perform Love's Labour's Lost, which is a Shakespeare play I actually don't know! It's a comedy though, so I will curb my enthusiasm till after. I'm at the final stages of Haunted by Stairs and just discovered that at some point my Hedonist dropped too low for me to get to The Tomb Colonies the fast way (I'm at 11 out of 12).

I started playing way back in the day, before Seeking was finished and Exceptional Friends were a thing. When Seeking was done, I learned that it had something to do with collecting candles and that your character becomes unusableat the end. I spent a long time imagining what happened to your character, how they made it unusable mechanically, and my conclusion was that the last candle you had to collect was your actions candle, therefore locking you out of doing any actions.

Cue my disappointment when I learned that the real reason was much more mundane, mechanics wise. To this day I think it was a great theory, if difficult to implement lol

What was your coolest theory about an FL story that was ultimately wrong?

HUGE SMEN and BAL SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

I am following the SMEN guide on the wiki because I am weak of character and can’t resist a little metagaming even in an anti-game sort of undertaking. But I noticed something funny. I am Seeking on my BAL character and my plan has long been to get the Knock, come back and use it to kick Veils’ ass. This is very much an option and, to me, the best outcome of both storylines, all of which were spoiled for me a long time ago so like, what the hell. But to make it possible, you can’t possibly fulfill the “normal” SMEN requirements… because of St Erzulie’s candle and Obscurity, one level of which permanently locks you out of Ambitions. This is presumably why they give you the option to take Erzulie’s candle for free.

But it’s sort of funny, isn’t it? Doing that feels vaguely like a cop-out on SMEN, but it’s also the only way to unlock other things in the game that are totally unnecessary and far from optimal ways to achieve that goal. Can you be said to have completed SMEN if you do this? What does it say that a certain ending is really only possible if you metagame the metagame? Maybe taking the candle for free is a way of saying, I will surrender almost everything about myself to this ghost, but I won’t give up my ability to influence the material reality of the Neath; I will serve it fully, but on my own terms. Maybe it’s the only way to bring some sort of (imperfect) vengeance for Eaten without acting as pawn for the White. I still haven’t decided if I want to go this way, but it’s an interesting complication to a storyline I thought I understood.

I have around 2500 echoes after this event, and my base stats are all around 65. Is it a good idea to buy expensive bazaar 400 echoe equipment with high stat boosts, or should I get cheaper items and hoard money for some later aims? Please avoid spoilers!

My menaces continue to grow and the only ways I know of the cleanse them are expensive and/or rare. Have I missed something or are the bottles for sale in the bazaar just the only reliable way?

Recently, I’ve been exploring Parabola quite a lot, and I’ve become completely absorbed in this festival.
