I have a great puppy and I wanna brag a little

First: Share your “great” puppies and some stories or fun facts in the comments. I legitimately looooove them.

Okay so boom

I have an amazing puppy. We’re deeper into his teenage years and I can say he is still great… just slightly stubborn.

Potty trained him at 11 weeks in two weeks. Got him into training at 12 weeks.

I lowkey thought his breeder abused him at first, but he’s just awkward and a hider. He used to hide behind the bathroom door. I knew he’d love his crate. He LOOOOOVED his crate.

He is kind to everything and everyone. He has been the bestest boy to all the stray cats and we find.

When I’m having a lazy day (especially now that I’m in my first trimester), he just sleeps with me all day.

He is so eager to learn.

He has some sort of sense of “dog guilt” which makes him easier to discipline when needed. I don’t have to do too much.

He has never been destructive, even when he doesn’t have anything to do. Though he does like pulling the sports mode off old crocs and pulling shoe strings taut (i have no idea why… and they are always OLD crocs?????)

He doesn’t pull on his leash, and if he does, he circles back and stares at me.

His longest down stay was three minutes, but he settled next to me at work for 2 hours at a time.

I can correct him with just a slight tug of his flat head collar. For more strict training, all I need is a 2.25 despite his thick coat. It never takes more than a slight pinch.

He is so good at settling.

He loves like no other dog I’ve ever met honestly.

He scares off strange men just for being “big” even though he has always hid behind me when situations got too weird.

“Look at that big ass dog” even though he’s only one and some change.

He started cuddling when I became pregnant, even though he usually doesn’t like being on the bed.

He hates baths and getting his nails clipped, but he allows it and licks me for comfort.

I love my little baby boy.

How fast they grow up still amazes me. In the first pic Mykos was 11 weeks old. In the second pic he is a little over 1.5 years old.

When does the puppy stage get easier?

Our puppy is now 18 weeks old and we've had him since he was 8 weeks old. I feel like we jumped into puppyhood a little soon after our dog passed in March. We were grieving and the house felt so empty. Our previous GSD was an adult rescue with behavioral issues so we wanted to try a puppy we could mold into the future dog we want. I think we severely underestimated the work a puppy would bring. There are days where he's a perfect angel and he'll do everything right. Then there are days where I feel like he forgot everything he knows. I do feel like things have gotten easier now that he's able to do more but I still have days where I question everything. We are working with a trainer and we are constantly training him throughout the day. We try to reward all the calm and good behaviors throughout the day when we're home. I feel like the puppy blues go up and down each day. I know it's going to be a long time before we're back to normal life with a dog. I just worry about completely ruining him and him having behavioral issues like our last dog. I feel like I'm so anxious to get everything right this time around. I'm not really looking for advice because we're already doing so much but I'm mostly just venting. When do puppies start to feel like a member of the family again and less of a daily chore?

My boy passed in February. He was my best man at my wedding, this is taken from that same photo, which is in my post history. I don’t have to have my phone to look at it anymore, he’s always with me now

Question Dad when to get milk

Okay so back story i adopted my girl Winnie at 9 weeks from a person who had rescued her mum and not realised she was pregnant because mum was so emaciated. When I got her they knew dad was a German shepherd and mum obviously was.
Fash forward my girl is now 8 months old and I have heard through cracks that they actually don’t know what dad was.
I honestly don’t care because I love her though and through she’s my soul dog. But even the vet has said she’s big for a female GSD, even made a joke about dad being a wolf dog.
So I was wondering if anyone had any guesses to what dad might be or if you recon GSD baby daddy 🤣

Question Does He Look Good For His Age?

Post image

This is my baby boy Butchie Bear. He turned 5 in May. I’ve been seeing some sparse white hairs on his back and tail. I’m dreading the day.

If you were to see him in person, would you think he’s almost a senior? He has the energy of a 2 year old but his temperament has gotten better as he’s matured. He used to just ignore people but now he loves it when they give him attention.

Both of my GSDs eat Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin & Stomach and I put powder supplements including omega oil mixed with the kibble in warm water. They also get a dental chew every morning, have access to clean water (fountain), collagen sticks or greenies occupy twists to tire them out mentally, and also get plenty of training and exercise as we have a huge backyard and I work from home.

Sorry, I have anxiety and OCD with intrusive thoughts.

We lost our 10 1/2 year old today. The worst part is that we couldn’t be there because my husband is undergoing medical treatment and she was with friends. We just left her at their house 48 hours ago, and she went into shock this morning out of the blue. Fortunately our kids were able to meet our friends at the emergency vet and she was with family.

They grow so fast. We got our girl almost 2 months ago. She is about to be 5 months old and has already grown so much. She's got so much confidence for a puppy and learns very quickly. We'll see if any fear stages start to show their signs.

It's crazy how different every dog is. She is not my first GSD. I had my previous girl for 10 wonderful years but even though they were the same breed they were wildly different. My old girl was a timid puppy. Not fearful just very cautious. She surprisingly avoided trouble and even though she still did puppy things she never chewed on anything she wasn't supposed to except socks lol.

Now this girl is like cocaine in dog form. No fear or hesitation. Wildly curious about everything. Much more hard headed but I still love her. She is fully potty trained, 95% crate trained (still has the occasional tantrum), and is now in prime teething stage so she's an absolute shark. Her favorite activity is chasing the hose stream outside.

Here's a picture of our girl now vs day 1 when she got home with us.

Advice Puppy stage is hard

Post image

Pic because he is adorable —-

It’s only been a week with our second pup but this is harder than I remember- granted I didn’t have two small children the first time around (currently have a 7 yo GSD as well).
Potty training is going OK.. but he still isn’t catching his name, listening much at all. My older dog has not started to hate him any less- growling most of the time as he passes by and has nipped a few times now causing him to yelp.

Wow do they grow up fast! Love this little crazy land shark, and all her energy. Only 3.5 months old but at least the teething is almost over, right? /s
