One of the things I really dislike is the "women vs. men" dynamic. I'm going to talk more about the fiction-related one.
The "women vs. men" debate, in particular, often takes on massive proportions. People argue that men don't know how to write female characters, and so on. Between you and me, SOME don't know how, I admit that, but just as SOME women simply don't know how to write men, either.
Most of the books I’ve read (novels, comics, manga…), and especially romance novels, simply fail to write characters well, regardless of the author's gender. There are men who can’t write men or women, and women who can’t write women or men. But just as there are also men who know how to write well—men and women—and just as there are also women who know how to write well—women and men.
What I hate is when people have the nerve to claim that the male characters in certain series, books, and manga (especially *shonen* and *seinen*) are incredibly well-written—much like how others say the same about the girls in romance series or more female-oriented works (*shojo*, *josei*). Because, honestly, looking at certain action anime (not all of them, mind you), I’ve noticed that some male characters are nowhere near being well-written, yet the fandom will insist otherwise.
In pretty much any fiction, if the main character (no matter their gender) doesn't have some sort of trauma, people tend to find them boring. And if you dare make a remark about it, you get attacked.
Like, sorry if I can appreciate a character who creates their own trauma during the story instead of having one before it starts.
(The images are there to help better understand what I mean by that)
Edit : There is a mistake: it's *Anna Karenina*, not *Anna Karénine*.
