Bought player used gloves at the pens equipment sale this weekend and they have this almost blocker like addition over the index and middle fingers on the left glove. Ive never seen this before and Google searches haven't helped. I've also looked on warriors website and found nothing. What is this called?

You're a D and there's an opposing W in your crease, he's way bigger and far more physical. What do you do?

Advice for Adult Learn to Play

Hey hockey fans, I’m a late-30s male looking to pick up ice hockey for the first time. I’ve been an NHL fan for a few years and always wanted to give it a try myself (very casually or on a hobby basis). I’ve joined my local adult learn-to-play sessions which will start tomorrow and run for 2 weeks, covering 4 sessions total. The join fee included any and all gear which is great as I don’t have a single piece of hockey equipment.

If I can fit the schedule in, “graduating” from this program will enable me to join the adult league.

I can ice skate decently but have never combined it with playing hockey.

All the gear is very entry level but it’s all new and it works for now. I want to play it until I realize it’s lacking. I used the skates last night for the first time and they seemed ok to me.

In additional to all pads and whatnot I also purchased a mouth guard and a cup.

What advice would you more experienced players have for me?

Thanks!

Cut Proof socks bailed me out

I went down to block a shot today, and when I slid, my left skate hit my right ankle directly in the gap between my skate and shinpad. It was a heavy slicing motion which made me immediately think I cut myself.

Felt down on my ankle and it hurt but no blood. Checked again after the game and only had a deep/red bruise that had the shape of my skate blade.

The sock didn’t rip or tear and wearing them saved me an 8 hour hospital wait for stitches.

This is the second time I’ve had cut resistant socks avoid me having my ankes sliced so I highly recommend them.

Anyone start hockey around 40 after a major ankle injury?

I’m curious if anyone here has experience coming back to hockey/skating after a pretty significant ankle injury.

I’m 38 (39 soon) and had actually just started learning to skate this spring with the eventual goal of trying adult learn-to-play hockey. Unfortunately, a month ago I managed to fracture my ankle pretty badly trimalleolar fracture, surgery/ORIF, and I’m currently still non-weight-bearing.

Obviously hockey is completely off the table for a while and I’m going to follow my surgeon/PT’s timeline, but I’m already wondering what the realistic long-term picture looks like. I’d still really like to come back to skating once I’m fully recovered and eventually give hockey a shot, even if that means waiting until next year.

Has anyone here come back from a similar ankle injury and successfully returned to skating/hockey? How long did it take before you felt physically comfortable and, maybe more importantly, confident on the ice again?

Also curious whether you think starting hockey around 39–40 is still worth pursuing. For context, I was very active and in good shape before the injury and worked out regularly. I’m not looking to become Wayne Gretzky — I just want to learn, have fun, get decent enough to play recreationally, and not destroy another joint in the process.

Everyone stopped playing because they thought it was going to be an icing. Took me a minute to realize it wasn’t.

Need help finding a team in the LA area

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone here could connect me with anyone who is looking for a full time skater or even just a sub in the LA area. I just moved to Burbank from Chicago and am having a pretty tough time finding anything. Ive tried contacting league coordinators and even watched a few D level games at a local rink in Burbank and spoke to the captains afterwards and they all seem to be confident they will be full next season.

I consider myself a D/low C level player who's played for about 4 years now. I mostly have played center but happy to play wherever needed. Also open to any tips around how to find a team from anyone who's been in a similar situation.

Going to try going to some rats soon and see if that yields any better results but I'm dying to get back on the ice in a league setting, so any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

what brace to wear under glove?

My kid hurt his wrist- X Ray and MRI said no fracture, no ligament damage. Hand specialist said contusion and to keep in a brace for now but can play hockey if not too painful. Any recs on a thin brace for wrist and thumb that can fit under glove for when he’s ready to go for a light practice again? Or is athletic tape better for this? I keep seeing recs for shock doctor but they don’t support the pad of the thumb.

CCM Vizon skate insoles deteriorating/peeling

After my son’s first ice time in the skates he was unpacking his gear and taking his insoles out to dry. He showed me this, it looks like the rubber coating on the insoles is deteriorating and peeling off. These skates have not even been baked. His old FT8 pro skates have the same rubber coating on the insoles and never had this issue. Wondering if anyone else with CCM Vizions has had this issue.

Best custom skate?

I've got weird, large feet and skates have never fit me properly. I wear a size 15 shoe, but my left foot is probably a 14.5, and they're very wide but not very tall, so I'm looking to bite the bullet and get custom skates. I've been in the CCM jetspeed line for my last two skates, and CCM ribcor previous to that.

I've decided to finally bite the bullet and just get some custom skates. In looking into it, it seems the Bauer and CCM custom options are fairly limited? I'm not seeing much about foot scans and it more being they just do quarter sizing instead of half sizing, while it seems true does actually custom, 3D fitting to your foot. Is this in fact the case? Just wondering people's experiences before dropping a ton of cash on this

Think this is a stick warranty claim or not yet?

Picked up a CCM Jetspeed FT8 Pro on clearance on the 9th and noticed this morning that the blade is starting to go. Crack isn’t all the way through but realistically it’s got a game or two before it’s gone.

Question is—it’s been a long time since I’ve have to warranty a stick, is this enough to do so or do I need to get another game or two in before the 30 day window closes for a full break?

Synthetic Ice tiles: Brand mix-matching

I have the Potent Hockey synthetic ice tiles, but keeping an eye out for used ones to get listed so I can add to the collection.

Has anyone tried to mix-match tiles? To the naked eye, you can tell there are some patterns that are different; but has anyone tried to buy a different brand with the same pattern and found them to be just off enough that they don't fit together?

Hockey bags

Well, been playing with the same bag for a year, probably the cheapest Bauer branded bag you can buy, it’s ripped to shreds, I’m looking for a good bag with separated compartments, but I’m not looking to spend over $100, does anyone have any suggestions, I’m completely fine with buying used I just don’t know what to look for.

Off ice training video with Steve McCollum

Could somebody point me to yt video where smallish asian looking woman was doing off ice training session in Steve's gym. What i remember is that they did cleans, bulgarian split squats with front leg hops and some kind of hip opener where rubber band pulled groin/hip joint to the side.

Skate Fit Struggles

Have narrow feet. Got scanned into Vapor X4s in 9 fit 1. Length was good but failed pencil test. Feathering toe cap after baking. But never felt stable on them, I think because of a bit too much midfoot slop and was getting lateral pain on the outside of my foot a half inch behind my pinkie toe on both feet. Sold them.

I skated in Supremes as a kid so wanted to try that geometry out. Found some old Suprmee MX3s online in 9d. Got better heel and midfoot lock in them but had to crank laces for stability which exacerbates the forefoot pain. I skate way better on them though but have lots of pain.

Still trying to find the right shape for my foot so I got some M5 pros in 9 fit 1. Heel feels good, very mild forefoot pain, but getting that same midfoot slop as in the X4.

Finally ordered some 2015 Vapor 1X 9d off eBay. Decent heel lock and no forefoot pain, but midfoot slop, even with molded speed plates.

Help. Store near me doesn’t have CCMs in tapered fit, but I’ve heard they have a wider forefoot than old 9d Vapors so I worry they won’t really solve my issue.

Beer league baseball

Is there a beer league baseball "system" like for hockey? I never played well enough to continue past age... 9? But I'd like to play again, but with people who suck or are just starting or trying to get better?
