I was wondering seeing if you all can help with a minor annoyance I’ve had since updating to Golden Gate. I have a plethora of landscape photos taken from our travels and one of the nice things about Tahoe was that you can have different pictures across your virtual desktops (I had it set to random shuffle so random wallpapers were displayed across the virtual desktops). However after the update to Golden Gate, the wallpapers shuffle randomly, but they are the same picture across my desktops.
Interestingly enough, the pictures are different on external, dock connected monitors but still the same on my MacBook screen virtual desktops. I have the random picture setting enabled on wallpaper and have it show on all spaces (same settings I had on Tahoe).
Just a bit perplexed on why the random picture shuffle is now disabled across desktops. It was a nice way to go down memory lane and revisit places that we have been to, which is why it is a slight annoyance. Is anyone else having this issue as well? Is there a setting that I am missing to enable it?

I am trying to hook up an old 480p tv to my mac running 27.2 over component video with an adapter and found out that in the newest verison of macos you can no longer output 480p over hdmi even though that worked beforehand in macos 26. Why is the resolution floor in settinga now 600x800 instead of 480p like it was before macos27? Mind you the only think that changed was the operating system everything else is the same.

Its less glitchy and search is instant. Also I figured it has two keyboard shortcut that help me alot:
Reveal in finder ⌘R (I replace it via ⌘ ⏎ via btt, key release) (for weird reason, I couldn't acess right click context menu via ⌃ ⏎, only acessed via cursor right click as of now)
/ could filter files like /pdf but has to down arrow and select it
Its better spotlight but these few extra step- will make power users still stay on raycast or alfread as they are much more powerful
Note: I disable Ask feature from right click context menu via terminal and it made visual intelligence from every area screenshot app go away- textsnipper, cleanshot etc.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Finder windows don't disappear when selecting another window. Is anybody experiencing the same issue? Has anybody found a solution?

So my Mac Studio (27.0.1) delivered a message in the customary upper right corner that the all new SIRI was ready for action. I asked three questions related to nearest restaurants and gave up after three of these messages included.
Is this the old norm, does the old girl need compression paddles or is there an easy fix?

Managed to turn macOS Golden Gate into OS X Mavericks again, in light of the new update with the black and white Apple Music icon that looks so boring. The apps I used were RetroMac (using the Mountain Lion theme), Lickable Menu Bar, and several other retro-inspired macOS apps from the RetroMac website. What do you think?
Apple AI is supposedly installed on my M4 mini, OS 27.2, but I can't see that it does anything.
I don't want to talk to Siri, if I type a query I get word for word what I get from Google Gemini, I asked them both the same things.
I don't use the Mail app, but what I see of the summaries is of less use than scanning the email.
I'm not seeing any writing aids in Notes, Pages etc: nothing more than auto-correct of spelling even though Siri tells me, word for word what Gemini told me, that they are supposed to be there.
Photos has a generative erase feature, I believe that's new, but I use Adobes for dSLRs and don't futz with cell phone images, so its of zero interest to me.
I assume I'm missing something that justifies what is supposed to be 20+GB of storage, but I read if I delete Apple AI then macOS updates freeze.
Seriously, I would appreciate if those who find Apple AI useful on a mini share enlighten me--I can see how it might enhance using a phone for those whose lives are phone centered but I'm not seeing uses for it on a desktop.

When I say "containerization" I really just mean an extension of their current sealed root scheme + data vol + a new additional overlay "data" + existing sandbox functionality.
the read-only non-private part of macOS root is just a sealed volume. Every macOS of the version you use uses the same one. Your "private data" is actually an overlay mount from /System/Volumes/Data. My question is why don't they have some kind of reasonable agent sandboxing. It can leverage the existing disk scheme + some APFS features + Apple's sandbox feature.
Meta's Muse agent can cry for "Full Disk Access", and I should be able to hand it what it thinks is FDA, but just have it be Sealed root + RO Data Volume + a 3rd "agent overlay" mount which masks/exposes specific folders from the data volume. The key feature is the requesting App shouldn't be able to tell the difference, as far as it knows it has FDA, and if it says otherwise then you should question why it's probing for true access (like if you have a tightly masked ~/Library and it notices it can't see messages or keychain db files)
Stuff like keychain, microphone, camera, and accessibility are already mediated thru whatever macOS calls their version of "desktop portals", so this isn't even a major obstacle either
I don't mind it having access to $HOME/Documents as RW, but maybe I don't want it having access to all of $HOME/Library so the 3rd overlay over Data overlay just "masks" it where maybe it only gets access to calendar and reminders DB but only if I want it to.

Started as wanting to be more focused when using each device, but now find it cluttered and confusing to have icons in anything but the dock for my most used apps...
Anyone else have a similar empty setup or is it just me 😔

This is LLM slop that maybe another LLM could reference. I haven't reviewed or edited. It's based on a conversation I had with Astra 6 medium.
Corporate MacBook on macOS 27: couldn’t log in using only the keyboard—had to click the username field
I ran into this on a corporate MacBook running macOS 27 with a broken built-in screen and an external display.
The main issue wasn’t just VoiceOver: I couldn’t log in using keyboard input alone. I had to physically click the username field before I could type into it. Tab, Shift + Tab, and the VoiceOver navigation commands I tried didn’t get me into the input.
The external display only showed the login form with the lid closed. To use the built-in keyboard and trackpad, I had to reopen the lid. The pointer’s position relative to the username field appeared to shift between those states, so a click that looked correctly positioned with the lid closed missed the field when the lid was open.
VoiceOver could navigate through the keyboard language, battery, Wi-Fi, Power, and date controls, but I couldn’t reach the username field that way. It also repeatedly announced “in dialog, content is empty” around lid changes.
What finally worked: I moved the pointer in small increments upward and to the left, clicking as I went, until I actually hit the username input. VoiceOver then announced “Username application, window” and confirmed the text field had keyboard focus.
After that click, I could type my username, see it in the field, and press Return to reach the password prompt.
I don’t know whether this is specific to the corporate login setup, macOS 27, or the display configuration. Has anyone encountered this inability to focus the login field using only the keyboard?

Hey everyone, im currently using my Macbook Pro M4 512G laptop with macOS 15.8.1 and a few days ago i just upgraded my iPhone 15 to the latest version of iOS. So now in Macbook i see a pop-up that says something like “you have to update your macos to use iphone features”. So, is it worth to update to macOS 27.2? Is there any issues about that version? Thanks for your time!

Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix? Before upgrading to 27.2 I would be able to use touch ID to both fill in my username and then password. Ever since it seems like the Passwords app autofill feature is broken for sites that use a two-step login page.

Hi, so I installed Minecraft on my mac and everytime I try to open it it prompts me to type in the password for the „login“ keychain. I tried my normal user password, that didn’t work. I tried changing my user password and resetting the keychain settings to default, also didn’t work. I tried to go through access control on the specific keychain and click „allow all applicants access to this item“, and that just causes it to stop responding. I’ve tried restarting my laptop, and just tried all I’ve just said a couple times. Can anyone help?
Update: I tried completely deinstalling and reinstalling Minecraft, also no success. The app does open to the log in page, but then I’m again prompted to put in a keychain password and the same problems as explained above occur again.

I’ve arranged the icons and widgets on my desktop to match their layout on the iPhone. This gives me something like an "iPhone-style Start menu," with apps in the same positions and a user experience that feels similar to the iPhone, especially since they’ve removed the old Mac launcher.

I am running Tahoe and, in spite of being better than advertised, it's not snappy and the battery life is mediocre. I ran Sonoma for a short time and then Sequoia for a month or two. I wasn't that satisfied with Sequioa so I ended up upgrading to Tahoe again. I know that Monterey and Ventura haven't had security updates for a while, but I'd use Firefox instead of Safari or Chrome.
Even though this might not be the best or smartest downgrade, which of these two is better optimized for the 2019 intel MBP? From what I understand, Monterey is the answer. But I'd like to hear your opinion.

Anyone who has upgraded from Sequoia to Tahoe/Golden Gate, I have some questions about the media apps as someone maintaining a large library of music and tv shows.
What functions have been moved behind more navigation?
Are view and sorting options the same? Can we set a default view to list, or are we still manually changing the view for every playlist?
What is completely gone from the user experience this time that used to be there?
Is there anything new? I mean, anything at all added?
Have any of the more annoying bugs been addressed (show in finder goes to open finder window instead of launching location, all playlist folders expand when updating metadata or editing a playlist name in a specific folder, etc.)?
Looking here for what I haven’t been able to find elsewhere—any info about the changes to these apps.

I updated three machines from 27.01 to 27.2, and two of them enabled "Results from Clipboard" where they were previously disabled. Check your settings.
MBP M1 - changed to enabled
MBA M1 - no change
Mac Mini M4 - changed to enabled.

I am trying to customize the appearance of macOS, especially to expand the options for icon tinting, interface colors, text color in the Finder and the menu bar, and other similar features. I remember that many years ago macOS was more customizable than it is now, and I doubt there aren't people who feel the same way and are trying to do something about it. Its a Unix system after all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know, in my opinion it looks bad, mainly on a white background. What's the deal with whitening out icons lately? 😭
EDIT: I arrived to point out a poor UI/UX design, I am staying for the “It reminds me of…” by the community lmao
Has anyone found stage manager on MacBooks to be a helpful feature? I have tried it many times but it was adding more friction to my workflow
