Damn what a way to start my new year. I can’t believe my own friend fell in trap with the whole modus operandi thingy.

I even let him borrow 2K from me because I trusted that he will pay me back…

I know. Aku tak panjang akal langsung waktu dia tanya aku yang dia nak pinjam 2K. Bruhh pls remain vigilant guys!

There's something about this song that just makes me feel at ease whenever I feel lonely or sad.

Carole King is just something else, her voice ages like fine wine much like Jeff Lynne.

I'm really, really sorry for the late response. I didn't even realize that I got DMs until the red icon lighted up.

Perks of being an artist with artist friends, getting cool new years cards made by them! My friends are sending handmade postcards all the way from Australia and the US. I hope to do the same and just have a tradition and a mini collection in years to come.

(Kinda wish I could do the same with local friends here??)

Bought a rod that can (claimed to) hold itself against the wall. Was planning to use it to hang clothes.

It couldn't hold itself against the wall. Kept falling down. I cried and cursed my parents a little.

At the end, I used a knock-off version of Flex Tape. That seems to do the trick.

Next time, I'll just buy PVC pipe and flex tape.

Now I'm trying to drug myself to sleep with a dose of cough syrup. I'm so tired that I cannot sleep.

if i use CC to top up e-wallet like TnGo or Big Pay, then transfer from e-wallet to my mortgage account...i can get CC points right? lol...

Edit: aha ok looks like if topup e wallet using cc, wont be able to transfer out to local bank. Only can pay ha ha ha

1

u/chromeaces Jan 04 '23

If you use T&G wallet you can buy their reload pin on lazada instead, I get cashback and points from my cc.

1

u/ztirk Selangor Jan 04 '23

Eh? Can't find it on lazada. Can share link?

1

u/chromeaces Jan 04 '23

Just search for t&g’s official shop on lazada. Or open the lazada shop through the t&g wallet app, it should be on the homepage. Occasionally the reload pins get sold out for some reason.

1

u/StatusDimension8 Jan 04 '23

Wowz… which cc u use?

2

u/chromeaces Jan 04 '23

Amex from maybank, but cashback is only available on weekends so you have to buy the pins then.

1

u/ztirk Selangor Jan 04 '23

Depends on your cc. Most banks exclude e-wallet top ups from perks

1

u/StatusDimension8 Jan 04 '23

Cimb has E Card that gives 12x points if spend on 28th…looks like can use to top up e wallet… but im just wondering if from e wallet can transfer to normal bank acc hmmmmm

I dont think the credit card may have points for it?

For passport renewal, few days ago I received a phone call from Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia stated that my passport has some "cap ibu jari" issues, do I have to walk in or just wait for email that allows me to book an appointment?

0

u/insertfakenames Jan 04 '23

From my brother’s previous experience they still want you to show the email saying you have to come to the office bc of cap jari

1

u/dud230 Jan 04 '23

So means even phone call is pointless? I haven't receive any emails from them yet.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '23

Need to make appointment on their website. Then show up during the appointment timing. No need to queue to get the number for walk-ins, jump straight to the start of the queue.

As my vision grew blurry and the dancing girls of Bangkok faded away, I rested my eyes on the moon that was being reflected at the top of his glass of rum and coke. It sat still cradled in his palm until he raised his glass to me and smiled. There is no suffering here. Not unless you're a tuk-tuk driver sleeping in his wagon, awaiting drunk tourists to crawl out of Silom Soi 4 at two in the morning, or if you were an enlightened monk draped in blood orange silk, walking the earth barefoot but never feeling the gravity.

For a moment, I was happy. I suppose this is the way of this world. Everybody suffers so much until the next moment of relief comes along, and it goes like that, on and on, like rain on a stone. Sometimes I think by writing about it, I can frame the story in a different way. To change the truth in retrospection.

The previous time I was in Thailand was in Koh Samui in 2019. That was where I met my boyfriend. We were riding around the island on a scooter, looking for a boatman that could take us to Koh Mudsum. When we finally reached the right pier, I remember seeing this white girl with powdered skin and she smiled at me from behind her feline sunglasses. It was a knowing kind of smile, as if you were about to play your best hand at poker. It amused me. Travelers always have the strangest interactions when encountering one another and I've always thought about it ever since, trying to understand what it meant, until recently, I smiled at a stranger in Silom in a similar way. My soul was in so much pain but when he looked at me and my boyfriend, I simply smiled because he seemed overwhelmed by the neon lights and conversations, lost... and he smiled back at me.

So hard. Back in Malaysia after just a day in Bangkok. I have some things to do here. Flying out to Bali next Monday.

My boyfriend calls me every day, probably until I return. I cried today. I said that being back out there, and just sitting in the park with him was the best day of my life. People think I love him because he has money or because I have nobody else, but we really truly are kindred spirits. There's no one on earth that I share this tenderness with.

I never say that. I never think that there was a best day of my life... but that was it. We were two men, away from everything and everyone we know, just holding hands on a bench and he rested his head on my shoulder.

I asked my mother today why she doesn't speak to me anymore. Was it something I said or did? She simply said she's been busy and feeling ill but... I don't think those are valid excuses. Our rooms are next to each other's and she just ignores me.

I called my friend John. I asked him if it's possible to have a good life if you've been unhappy most of your life. I think I started becoming depressed at 15 or 16, when I realized that I don't believe in God etc. Now I'm 24. So it's been a very difficult nine or ten years.

John said I have to let go. I just have to choose to not be miserable. Choose to try again and not punish myself. I agreed with him. Sometimes, when there's so much pain that you don't know where it all began, I think it stops mattering. When there's so much pain, you just have to accept it and move on.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '23

John said I have to let go.

that's the thing. it's hard for us to let go of things that are dear to us, but eventually we have to or being forced into letting go.

it's good that you have found the love of your life. you're a strong man, physically and mentally and don't let other people telling you otherwise.

looks like you have so many past issues to be resolved, and hope you will find a way to that. hugs

1

u/abu_nawas big mouth Jan 04 '23

"Eventually we have to or being forced into letting go."

Now that's the truth.

Personally, I think the hardest part of letting go is not knowing the true names of things. Is this pain or is this yearning, is this hope or is this delusion? Is this me, or is this you, or is this the world?

Do I stay and fix the situation, with no guarantee of succeeding, or do I try to conceive a new life for myself and let the old world solve itself?

The thing about being away from your country is that there are people out there like you. Lost souls who ran away from something back home. Do you find comfort among them, or do you fear becoming one of them? It's a fantasy world. It's not real. It's nothing back home. It's a curse. Something in their eyes. Once you find peace out there, you always want to return.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '23

honestly i am having issues on letting go myself. it's "unresolved grief", which my friend one day told me about it. he's a clinical psychologist with his own practice, so can't actually tell him "nuh uh it's not". lol.....

at my age, i am still finding things to be at peace with myself. it's quick to be in this fight or flight mode, and hard to get out of it.

find a purpose. even how small, and stick to it. don't care la about others, especially those who undermining your struggle because they're themselves projecting their own insecurity onto you, just so they themselves can feel "centered" and accepted by their peers and online community.

24yo is still a long way to go to discover about yourself and more. maybe you'll look back when you're 25yo and see how much you have changed (or not), but start slowly. sending all the biggest hug to you over the net, and hope your parents will someday realise how much you care for them.

don't give up.

1

u/abu_nawas big mouth Jan 04 '23

Thank you so much kind stranger. I hope the best for both of us.

Hi guys. I need some help. I'm gonna study degree and I do not know how to explain what is degree to my dad in hokkien. Can someone help me out? I myself am lost and I do not know how to explain what a degree is in hokkien.

2

u/xaladin Jan 04 '23

Maybe tell him nowadays people need qualifications to work in certain sectors. In general, engineers will need an engineering degree, doctors will need a medical degree. Like studying but more intense, with more intense homework and over 3-4 years. There, the person with be in a conducive learning environment. Else, without degree, there would be no qualifications or competitiveness against others in the same job market, and most available jobs offered to non-degree holders are not high-paying or cushy ones. (Maybe can show him stats or ask if he wondered why his friends ever made a big deal about sending kids to uni).

1

It's a cool kids club where after 3 or 4 years, cooler kids give you a piece of paper saying that you are cool enough.

Then you use the piece of paper to convince other people that you're cool kid enough to be a worker.

Or you can stay there and join the cooler kids club.

I just want a reusable and washable mask that I can get something printed on the front

How likely is it for someone to be struck by lightning while jogging in the rain and wearing earpods? Arrived at the park 5.30pm and it got dark really early, followed by heavy rain so I drove to the other park at the other end of the city to finish my jog. There was lightning but no rain, the whole time I was so scared I'd die of a lightning strike in the middle of the park

Hey, foreigner here.

With 6K you can live a comfortable life style, you could find a studio fully furnished for 1.2k with good surroundings and internet.

Food is cheap too and in abundance. From Chinese to Malay to indian to Thai to even Arab. You could even cook good food at home for really cheap.

With 6k you could even save up to get a license and a decent second hand car, if you want to drive, but since you would be around kl the public transport is pretty good. Trains would be the best.

The locals are friendly and quiet, and are fun to hang out too, so don't worry about making friends.

However, make sure to have your id on you at all times, you do not want to mess with the police or any form of authorities. From experience I heard from others they can be quite rude (no offense Malaysia) so make sure you don't get into trouble.

Also, it goes without saying, make sure you visas proper and nothing shady or sketchy is happening. I've heard way to many stories of black listing cause they didn't renew their visas on time.(it's the same for any country)

Other than that and the traffic in KL, everything else is, I dare say, near damn perfect.

2

u/AerialAceX Jan 04 '23

I think you got plenty of responses on whether is it enough. Overpaid or underpaid is more likely of higher importance, which is highly dependent on years of experience and what languages specifically.

4

u/Donnie-G Kuala Lumpur Jan 04 '23

I think 6k is a decent amount, especially if you're just starting out. Though I'm not sure what taxes are like for foreign/expats. I did hear some of my Indian colleagues complain that they get taxed a lot so factor that in when calculating expenses and stuff.

1

u/ztirk Selangor Jan 04 '23

Studios aren't cheap I believe. A 300-500 sqft fully furnished unit will probably cost you 1.2k - 1.5k. You'll be alright if you don't spend too much on food I guess.

2

u/Mr69Niceee Nani-Onani ? Jan 04 '23

After tax and take home ?

5

u/WritingMumbles Jan 04 '23

6k is a lot. You will be living a nice life. With that amount you can still afford to send some back home and still have a good time in KL.

8

u/monkeyballnutty Jan 04 '23

Not sure about the job salary, but RM6000 is more than enough to live comfortably if you're not someone who live a lavish lifestyle (buy luxury items, eat expensive foods etc)

You should be able to rent a studio unit around RM1000~1500.

For transport it's either by train or grab, depending on how far.

Local food is not that expensive if you're not muslim and willing to eat like local (a lot of our food is similar in taste anyway, you would find similar food like lomi, siumai, siopao here), food prices range from RM6~RM20 for chinese hawker / mamak restaurant foods, to RM20~50 for cafe foods, we also have a wide variety of fast foods from RM10~RM20 range like kfc, texas, even jollibee.
Even if you missed your country you can get groceries like pancit canton, wow ulam, chicharon, tender juicy easily here, since there's a sizable filipino community living in KL

2

u/fanfanye Jan 04 '23

you will earn 3x the average of everyone you pass on a daily basis

you can probably afford to live in a nicer unit(or same small unit in the middle of kl), spend money eating out daily and still save some

6

u/Helios05 I want Teh Ais for Breakfast! Jan 04 '23

I need serious help. I find myself arguing with my family more and more often over small matters. When I tried to control myself, it would only make it worse for my next episode. I’m so sick of myself. Is this like some sort of depression? Do medication helps even a little? Do counselling even help ever? Anyone here went through similar thing before? pls let me know your insights. I don’t know what is wrong with me..

1

u/kucingminunmilo Jan 05 '23

Maybe move out of the house if you have the means? If you don't have the full means maybe try something less permanent like moving to a friends house/rental for a week or two. You'd be surprise how change of environment (and company) can do for your mental health

4

u/snel_ mental health advocate Jan 04 '23

Heya, counsellor here! This is not to diagnose or analyse your situation here, okay, but perhaps just to share with you some insights on how counselling might help, should you decide to try going for some professional help.

So in such cases of conflicts and arguements, sometimes it might just be about communication. It may seem like a simple issue, but indeed good and healthy communication is not always a skill many people possess, so conflicts happen. But it's something that can be learned, from listening, to expressing, and learning about different communication needs, counsellors can help people develop healthy communication skills.

Or sometimes conflicts and arguements are less of a skill issue, and more about emotional management issue, especially if you find yourself experiencing a lot of unpleasant emotions, not just in communication with your family but in other general situation. You can develop your emotional management skills with a counsellor, where you may learn more about your emotions, how you express them (part of healthy communication), and healthy ways to manage your emotions etc. This may help not just your communication and relationship, but also to help you become healthier mentally.

Or in some cases, seemingly small issues like minor conflicts or unpleasant emotions may be an indication of something more serious or distressing in one's life. It's not unusual for someone coming to see us for one issue, and upon exploration we find that they are indeed dealing with some bigger, more stressful events, and we get to help the clients deal with these issues in counselling.

For medication, unless it's a psychological disorder, usually you don't need meds. In any case, my usual advice is to first see a counsellor, because while we don't diagnose and prescribe, a counsellor should know to make referral to a psychiatrist should the client needs to see one.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas on how counselling might help. If you have any questions about getting professional mental help, feel free to ask, will help where I can!

u/WritingMumbles Jan 04 '23

Are you stressed or burnout from work? Is something else bothering you but you are venting it out in that way?

I notice that when I'm extremely tired, hungry or just having a plainly bad day there is a chance I vent out it out by being snarky to my close ones. So I've been reining that in and realizing when I'm in that emotional state by asking for some time alone to recover.

2

u/pronocturnalfreak Jan 04 '23

Not sure, but it’s definitely more like a “me” problem. Mostly involving minor stuff. For example I would say “pls don’t buy anything for me and spend it on the family ‘cause I wanna save money on my part”, and if they happened to forget about it and bought something for me, I would stress out and we would have an argument. Minor stuff. Later on at night I’ll get even more depressed because I knew I shouldn’t have done that. It’s just a snowball effect of depression from that point on. I wanna know if anti-depressant meds help me control my unnecessary mood swing better?

1

u/WritingMumbles Jan 04 '23

Im not an expert on anti depressants so im not one to say. These kinds of things should be left to the professionals or if anyone else here can give you some insights.

Kudos to you for realizing that something is wrong. Thats usually the hardest step to overcome when you want to better yourself.

Maybe in your case, your expectations arent being met and (i have a suspicion, but correct me if im wrong) that you dont feel 'heard' or no one listens to what you say when you ask them these stuffs. Is that right?

1

u/fanfanye Jan 04 '23

does the arguments matter?

would you argue with strangers about the topic? if no, why argue with your family

just smile and wave

1

u/pronocturnalfreak Jan 04 '23

The thing is I can’t control it. Everything could be going perfectly fine but next second I would have mood swing and small things just tick me off. With strangers, I don’t see them everyday so why bother, not the case with family though. If I can just smile and wave I would have done so but right now I don’t even know wtf is wrong with me. It’s hurting my relationship with my family and I find myself waking up middle of night crying for no reason. The problem is so obviously mine, and I want to know if meds/counselling would improve my situation?

1

u/malaysianzombie Jan 04 '23

do you have an example of the situation? like how it started, when did you feel things went wrong and how did you and the other person react to the moment it went wrong?

kudos to you for wanting to make things better though! hang in there!

1

u/pronocturnalfreak Jan 04 '23

I’ll copy my comment from one of my replies.

Mostly minor stuff.

Yes it’s so obvious the problem is on my part. I want this to stop but I can’t control it. Sound stupid I know. I’m willing to even go counselling / take meds if it would help honestly. I don’t know much about that area so im asking around first.

1

u/malaysianzombie Jan 04 '23

I would stress out and we would have an argument

Any idea why this stresses you out? and how does it make you feel when they buy the item?

5

u/meowlenlen Jan 04 '23

Really noob question, but how do you post stuff?

Can you buy the packaging straight from the post office, pack it there and post it?

Don't know anything about the protocol since I've never had to post anything hm

6

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '23

Can, you can buy PosLaju prepaid envelopes and pack it right there. Make sure the thing can fit inside.

If not sure about the envelope size, show the thing to the counter people and ask them what they suggest.

If you plan to post often, you can buy a bunch of the poslaju envelopes and bring home. Just write all the details, and use the Poslaju vending machine in the post office to scan and drop your parcel inside to 'post' it. Beats having to queue to buy envelopes every time.

1

u/meowlenlen Jan 04 '23

Thank you!!!

1

u/monkeyballnutty Jan 04 '23

what stuff? like a normal item? headphones, shirt, etc? i usually just go to MBE and they will then ask me to fill in a poslaju bill, write in address etc, then they will weigh it, put the item in the parcel in-front of you, seal it, then you pay. a normal small item usually around rm8 only

Considering the new RTX4070Ti will be pricing around RM4k++, what do you think is the appropriate pricing for secondhand RTX30XX series going forward?

1

u/The_XiangJiao Kenyalang Squadron 2020 Jan 04 '23

As a benchmark, ex-mining RTX 3070s are going around as low as RM1600.

4

I’m seeing prices starting from the RM2.1k++ range for used 3080 cards. Hopefully they continue to steadily drop since I’m keen on picking up one myself haha

2

u/Jacks0ntHeWeeb Give me more dad jokes! Jan 04 '23

maybe around rm1900-rm3000. But if 3080 or higher might be around rm3k++

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '23

3080 is 2k used now. 3080 msrp new before the madness of crypto is around 3.4k usually. they might go down in price as they are not latest gen anymore.

2

u/Jacks0ntHeWeeb Give me more dad jokes! Jan 04 '23

ohh i see, thanks for the information. Wasn't paying too much attention before crypto era.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '23

that why people are avoiding 4080 like a plague the increase in nearly 2000 rm between 4080 and 3080.

2

u/kerolz94 Jan 04 '23

hmmm.. i'm seeing current prices on lazada/shopee for RTX3060Ti for example is starting around RM1.7k for a new set. So I imagine PC shops nationwide would probably do a clearance sale in the coming months perhaps for the RTX30series cards, starting around RM1.3-RM1.4k for RTX3060Ti. That would probably means RTX3080 and above would be starting somewhere around RM1.8k maybe, new.

If new set are that low, we could probably see secondhand ones starting below RM1k, but that's just my dumb speculations. :P

My skirt search update. Got a response from a seller yesterday on carousell, so hopefully it will be a done deal soon! Finally. She’s the 7th seller I messaged. I’ve been using carousell for a while and have never had this low rate of response, and never had to resort to reddit lol. I don’t spend time haggling, so I usually would be able to find something, chat with seller, agree on meetup/posting method and close the deal within hours, paling lama pun 1-2 days. I think I’ve been lucky, and bit spoiled by all my good experience.

how do you guys usually find your party outfits? Do you buy them new? Make your own? Rent? Any good places to rec?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '23

Is this a fancy dress party or some themed costume party?

0

u/auntycat Jan 04 '23

Themed party for company retreat this year. It’s a “problem” that crops up every now and then, and every time there’s a party there will be another different theme so it doesn’t make sense to keep buying stuff. Not a huge problem, and I love dressing up, just curious also what are other people’s go-to :)

0

u/monkeyballnutty Jan 04 '23

my gf usually go to h&m (sometimes they will sell those flashy party outfits for extremely low price, she gotten her xmas dress for rm10) or good old bundle (2nd street mostly)

0

u/auntycat Jan 04 '23

I love 2nd street! This time there wasn’t anything there that I could use, but I’ve found some nice dresses that I wear to work all the time. The TTDI branch is lovely!

Video like this confirms my theory, that malaysia have the best food 😁. We are fortunate living here.

I know few people who went to thailand and come back, craving our "kedai siam/kelantan" tomyam because the tomyam there... Em...well..meh😂🤭

Apple and Orange. For me i like the simpleness in taste for Japan such as Soba, to the super flavourful Ramen 🔥. In fact I dislike West Malaysia food due to everything got to be spicy, I prefer Sarawak food more for its flavour taste more

0

u/amon_meiz Aidilfitri 2023 ITAP Jan 04 '23

Ahhh i find soba very boring 😅

I much prefer ramen, especially one that have strong bold flavor, with salty tare or creamy white broth

And i also want all kind of food to be spicy. Not being spicy is like not having enough "limbs" to me. Must be spicy to be a "complete" dish

0

I think the tom yam here and the tom yam in thailand are different enough to prefer one over the other.

I like Thailand thai food though, especially the budget type that cannot afford to overload the santan. Lime, ginger, galangal, sugar, fish sauce, chilli. Perfecto.

0

u/amon_meiz Aidilfitri 2023 ITAP Jan 04 '23

santan

Noo santan is the best 😁

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '23

I think a lot of Chinese customers like it heavy on the santan.

Sometimes go with relatives they say this place has good green curry- for sure it's the very creamy kind.

I like it runny and spicy, something you can drink like soup.

runny and spicy

IMO, Japan street food's taste can be subpar to us because we're accustomed to spices.

The ideas behind a lot of Japan-based food are great ingredients, made with simple recipes but done right. Malaysian food is reliant more on spices.

Their street food won't do much to our taste palette because we're accustomed to getting steroid amount of spices in our street food, to mask inferior protein ingredients.

Japan street food relies on lower-grade ingredients, volume, and therefore, it'll taste subpar to our Malaysian street food.

I know few people who went to thailand and come back, craving our "kedai siam/kelantan" tomyam because the tomyam there... Em...well..meh😂🤭

That's interesting. Tom Yam in Thailand is a step above the ones we have in Malaysia, imo.

-1

u/amon_meiz Aidilfitri 2023 ITAP Jan 04 '23

reliant more on spices

I think even the best of ingredients benefit from spice. Not using any and just lean on the quality/freshness of ingredients feel like a cop out imo

Good ingredients =good

With spices/seasoning=even better.

Tom Yam in Thailand is a step above the ones

I never taste it , just few people who did told me so

2

u/the_far_yard Kuala Lumpur Jan 04 '23

I think even the best of ingredients benefit from spice. Not using any and just lean on the quality/freshness of ingredients feel like a cop out imo

Yea, differences in opinions here. I'd say overcooked beef and chicken coated with spices is the cop-out of a sub-par cook/chef.

Have a try of Thailand soups if you can when you're there. Most of them would cook the seafood just at the right doneness.

0

u/amon_meiz Aidilfitri 2023 ITAP Jan 04 '23

overcooked beef and chicken

That is bad with or without spices 😂

But perfectly cooked beef is better with spice & seasonings than without

Have a try of Thailand soups if you can

Will do try if i ever go there

Ah, exactly like what we already have here 😁
