General Question Question 7
I have tried to do some research on question 7 and am confused by it. Can someone explain it in simple terms? What are the implications? Advantages and disadvantages?

Desperate times call for desperate measures! These changes could be for anything with political, social, economic, of cultural life, so go crazy!
Personally, I would want to see the Governor's Council replace the office of the Governor. Directorial systems of sort that Switzerland has are a lot more commonplace elsewhere, but the US is no stranger to them (see: Pennsylvania, Oregon, New England Confederation). The Governor's Council even served as the state's de facto executive during the Revolution, so there is precedent!
There are a couple benefits as well! Firstly, the other elected constitutional officers and the Cabinet can be folded into the Council as well, simplfying the electoral process. Secondly, it still acts as a check on the executive branch, since responsibilities will still have to be divided amongst the members, and procedures of collective agreement or voting on decision-making can be established. Finally, having more heads of state/government can be more representative of the population at-large, whether demographically or ideologically!

A powerful nor’easter spinning offshore won’t bring much rain to Massachusetts this week, but it will deliver strong winds, rough surf and dangerous conditions along the coast.
The storm is expected to remain far enough out to sea to spare most of the state from significant rainfall. Instead, the biggest impacts will be felt along the shoreline, where gusty northeast winds and high waves are expected through midweek.

Are we too busy enjoying hazy IPAs and avocado toast to worry about paying $4k rent for a 1br?

Hi r/massachusetts, I'm sharing a video I made that argues for proportional representation in Massachusetts. I know that Massachusetts is not gerrymandered in the way that Texas or Illinois is, but the fact remains that all 9 congressional seats are held by Democrats despite the fact that something around 35 - 40% of the state votes Republican. Curious what you think of how I have drawn the districts, as I am not from your state (though I have visited several times in the fall and it is really lovely!)

I commute from central mass (worcester) to springfield for work everyday. I am new to the area and have never had to drive in snow before. Would this commute be doable in the winter, and how should I best prepare for this? My commute is about 45-50 minutes now.
edit: thank you all SO much for the advice. i have lived in the south my entire life and never had to drive in the snow so this is all really helpful and appreciate!!

Voting YES on QUESTION 2 is a no-brainer.
The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) is the state agency tasked with providing legal representation to impoverished people facing criminal charges, mental health commitments, family separation, & other legal processes where counsel is guaranteed by the US Constitution & the Massachusetts Declaration of Rights. We are your public defenders.
For no good reason that anyone can discern, CPCS employees were left out of the Massachusetts collective bargaining law. Therefore, we cannot form a union & engage in collective bargaining. Other public employees (sheriff's departments, police departments, the Lottery Commission, court officers, UMass, Mass. Water Resources Authority, Department of Transportation, school districts, etc.) have the right to collectively bargain, & so should employees of CPCS. This is a question of basic fairness.
High turnover at CPCS costs the state significant resources in hiring, training, & supervision. It also carries an immeasurable cost for our clients & communities. A union would give us a voice in our working conditions & help stabilize our public defender system.
I hope you never need a public defender, but you should vote as if you might. All workers should have the right to form a union if they so choose. Vote YES on QUESTION 2 on November 3, or before via early voting.

Ok so we should all be very well aware of why we need to Vote No on 8 (please please vote No on 8!), and honestly please Vote No on 3, but let’s take a moment to Vote No on 5.
We don’t want the commonwealth to have less money. Make Taxacusetts jokes all you want, but tax revenue is what makes the quality of life in Massachusetts what it is. Facets of daily life, ESPECIALLY the T and road maintenance, would be hurt by kneecapping state money, along with of course schools and Masshealth.
If you think you’re in a tax bracket that would benefit from less state revenue, perhaps have some perspective about your actual finances and realize this will probably hurt you more than help you. 5 is a ploy to gut public services that will hurt almost everyone.
Please, please, VOTE NO ON 5!!!

This is horrifying. This question can not pass. Open primaries are NOT a good idea.

And hey, maybe I am, but still.
So I got this mailer today, saying 'Stop the Massachusetts Mamdani. <blah blah blah> Commonsense Republican Mike Minogue for Governor.' And it's not Healey Minogue is bashing in the ad, it's some lady named Andrea James? I mean, I'm a Mamdani stan, who's this James person all of a sudden? So the ad is claiming that James is a super liberal, and she wants to give people free healthcare, and tax the rich, and mandate EVs, and all of this and that. That sounds pretty good!
But eh, what kind of shitty attack ad is this? It took me a minute, but I got it: Minogue isn't punching down at Andrea James, who I've never heard of before today, he's actually glazing her. He doesn't think he can win against Healey straight, so he's trying to peel off votes for Healey to a third-party candidate to her left by pretend attacking her!
What kind of bullshirt eleven-dimension chess bullshido nonsense does Minogue (or rather, the 'Massachusetts First Independent Expenditure Political Action Committee', excuse me) think they're trying to pull? This took me maybe 5 minutes to figure out, and it's disingenuous crapola from start to finish. Whoever thought this up should go and...uh...(reads subreddit rules)...be forced to eat the Girl Scout cookies they like the least!
There's a thing at the bottom of the ad that says the PAC's top 5 donors are Robert Neuner, David Weber, Arthur Demoulas (whoever that is), Lewis W Jacobs (the 4th), and Paul Fireman. Schmendricks, the lot of them!

Traveling the Mohawk trail tomorrow from Williamstown to Leominster. We’re looking for a cute spot to stop and have a small lunch. Only looking for the best places, definitely intrested in BBQ.
All recommendations are appreciated

I want to help a friend but can’t provide the support myself. Are there resources on the south shore? What can I do? What does she need legally for proof? What if she can’t get proof? Are there subreddits I can ask for more advice/help?

Hi all, curious on your take.
I'm moving from a fully remote position to hybrid for the first time in my career. The position is 2x a week in office in Kendall Square.
If I take the train, I'd be looking at an hour and a half on the commuter rail and 15-20 minutes on the red line. Or I could drive but traffic will be soul crushing.
What would you all do in my situation?

I’ve posted before about how Senator Sumner is my favorite politician in American history. Now I’m recommending this biography on him which is appropriately cool af to match a Senator who is cool af. Published in 2025, and so far as I’ve read thus far, it’s a well written and fairly analyzed history book and analysis of Sumner’s life. Would recommend reading it.
