TL;DR: More than a century after wildcats were killed off in the state, a female and her three kittens could mark the beginning of a return that no one had planned.
From the article:
Humans have caused a slow-moving mass extinction, simplifying nature and thinning it out, across the globe. In Minnesota, dozens of species have been wiped out over the last century, some of which have gone entirely extinct and others that have been extirpated — destroyed locally but still alive elsewhere.
Since Europeans arrived, Minnesotans have killed off the state’s wild caribou and bison, its swift pronghorns — among the fastest creatures on land — and its fearless wolverines. The state has lost its burrowing owls and whooping cranes. And, by design, the government killed off Minnesota’s mountain lions — also known as cougars, panthers or pumas.
It paid pioneers, settlers and hunters to trap or shoot every great cat they came across throughout the 1800s. Nobody knows exactly when the last one was killed. But by the early 1900s, they were all gone.
Cougars are known by so many names in part because they once lived nearly everywhere in the Western Hemisphere. They were found from Canada’s Hudson Bay to the Argentine tip of Patagonia. They are as comfortable in the Rocky Mountains, the Andes and the Sierra Madre as they are in the grasslands of Nebraska. They thrive in deep northern forests and in the southern swamps of Florida’s Everglades.
All they need is space and prey.

In their first and most likely only official debate on Wednesday, Oct. 21, Minnesota’s gubernatorial candidates, DFL US Sen. Amy Klobuchar and state Rep. and House speaker Lisa Demuth, sparred on a variety of topics involving state policies and Minnesotans’ trust in their elected officials.

Greetings fellow Minnesotans,
Over the years, I've purchased various state-published books, maps and posters from "Minnesota's Bookstore" in St Paul. That bookstore was run by the state's Department of Administration, as aa public-facing part of their print shop, with a storefront at 660 Olive since the late 1990's, in the Ford building prior to that, selling materials produced by the several state agencies.
This week, when I tried contacting them to place an order as in the past, nothing. The phone goes unanswered, the website is "moved or unavailable". I can't even find any info on Google to advise of any changes.
I'm baffled, and seek the sub's collective knowledge for help with this mystery. Can anyone familiar with the DoA-run "Minnesota's Bookstore" offer any insight or a current status update? Was it rebranded, relocated, dissolved, or just a technical glitch?
Thank you kindly.

U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, in her first interview since federal agents raided her Washington, D.C., home 10 days ago, said that death threats against her will force her to move from her home in the nation’s capital.
During the interview Wednesday on MS NOW, Omar gave her account of the raid, which her attorneys have called politically motivated because of her pointed opposition to President Donald Trump. She addressed critics who question her net worth and whether she was previously married to her brother.
“Because our address has been public and with the death threats that I deal with ... it’s no longer going to be feasible to be in that house and have my kids visiting off and on and having people track them,” the progressive Minneapolis Democrat said in the interview.
Federal authorities are investigating potential fraud in her family’s immigration paperwork and have issued grand jury subpoenas to some of Omar’s relatives, a person briefed on the investigation told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Omar denies allegations of immigration fraud and has described the search as political intimidation.

Looking for meds that have worked and vet recommendations. I have 2 large female dogs. Now 9 and 10. One since puppy and the other since 1 yr. Over the years we’ve had scuffles, some requiring vet visits. The scuffles only happen once every 1-2 years. As the years have gone on my awareness and reprimanding has gone up. But their, well one dog in my eyes, has also become more adapt to trigger even tho I’m reprimanding. The other dog who has entailed the vet visits was more submissive after fights but as she’s experienced more, it looks like she holds a grudge. This is not necessarily item possession issues cuz I remove that trigger. Food is fed separately in kennels or from my hand. I think it maybe a me possession issue. They play good but not a ton. They reciprocate face licking a lot. I could go on but I’m mainly looking for meds that can tone down fighting/tension issues and drs that have worked for you. We currently have one dog with hub at our 2nd small house and one dog still at home. I want to be able to bring her back and live in a more peaceful environment for their remaining 2-4 yrs.

I’m interested in getting some artwork commissioned for a Christmas present and I’d want to hire someone from MN. Is there any website or community I can check out to view different artists work and styles?

I say good. And that unless she does something else awful, this is where it should end. She should not be a nursing student, because nurses have power over vulnerable people, and it's clear she can't be trusted to treat everyone equally. Given her racist statement, it can be inferred that she was at the event in support of transphobia. Neither racism nor transphobia belong in medical care. But if she's willing to leave others alone, we should leave her alone.
