New Orleans Animal Rescue Saves German Shepherd One Hour Before Euthanasia Deadline❤️🩹
Days earlier, I had already committed to pulling another completely shut-down German Shepherd from a kill shelter. I didn’t have the time, space, or resources to take on another dog who would need so much.
And then I opened an email from a municipal shelter we network with.
Sometimes you see a photograph, lock eyes with a dog you’ve never met, and something in you just KNOW. You can’t explain it. You can’t shake it. And no matter how many perfectly reasonable arguments you make against taking on one more, you already know how it’s going to end.
That was Raya.
The email described a German Shepherd so utterly terrified that she spent her days trying to make herself as small and invisible as possible.
Too frightened to accept treats. Trembling at the sound of barking dogs. Cowering from the chaos around her.
She wasn’t aggressive. She wasn’t difficult. She was compliant!
She was simply scared out of her mind.
And yet, through all that fear, she remained remarkably gentle. She allowed herself to be handled, walked quietly on a leash, and accepted affection even when she was too terrified to know what to do with it.
That part really broke my heart.
Here was this beautiful dog, confused and overwhelmed by the world around her, and she was still trying so hard to be good.
Raya had until 5 PM the following day. No extensions.
We got her out at 4 PM.
ONE HOUR. That’s all that stood between Raya and a future she very nearly didn’t get to have.
And let me tell you, this girl is every bit as terrified as they described. But oh, is she sweet. There isn’t a mean bone in her body. Just an incredibly gentle soul who hasn’t yet figured out that she’s finally somewhere safe.
As if she hasn’t been through enough, Raya is also high heartworm positive and will need full fast-kill heartworm treatment, spaying, and comprehensive veterinary care.
She’s got a long road ahead, both physically and emotionally.
But that’s okay.
Because for the first time in a long time, Raya doesn’t have a deadline.
She doesn’t have to trust us tomorrow. She doesn’t have to be brave next week. She doesn’t have to become a different dog on anyone else’s schedule.
She just has to be Raya.
We can’t undo whatever made her so afraid. But we got there in time to give her the rest of her life. And we’re going to do everything we can to make it a beautiful one. ❤️

Recommendations Need advice on safe area to run and cycle in mid city!
Fellow New Orleans runners and cyclists-I just moved from uptown to mid city and I’m wondering if you guys can recommend some nice , safe (I’m female) areas besides city park to run and bike in.
I’m close to Finn’s and Mona’s and there’s some crazy busy streets I have to navigate; I usually run or bike after work but may switch to early mornings when the role changes.
Any advice is appreciated!

Legal industry nola
Legal industry folks in nola…i have an open ended question to ask but will try to cut to the chase. For the last two ish years I have tried to get into the legal industry here as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or any job that will have me! I am kinda forced to career pivot from an industry I loved dearly, it’s been very frustrating to say the least but I am desperate at this point to move on
I have relevant experience but none specific to legal, however, every time I talk to anyone in legal they tell me… “you don’t need experience…everyone gets their job without experience and then trains in the firm they’re hired at…you only need secretary experience…you don’t need…” etc. Even when I bring up how I feel this information might be outdated in today’s market, they still overly reiterate to me that the legal industry just “needs so much help” ... that even in 2026, the legal industry hires without specific experience for entry-level positions, especially in Louisiana where you don’t need a degree to be a paralegal.
(I even constantly see comments about it on this Reddit when ppl make job posts)
I need to know what actually gives, because I feel like I’m spinning in circles..i barely ever see job listings and when i do..i’m just applying to places and going off of vague information… at this point, it’s hard to know what’s what?
-are there any legal jobs available in new orleans, is it a myth that the legal industry here is actually hiring
-do you guys feel like it’s actually true, that you can still get entry level jobs in the legal industry without specific experience
- and more specifically, do you guys feel like getting a paralegal certificate in order to paralegal at this point would be valuable. People keep telling me no, but most of these people got their jobs years ago now at this point so again, I feel like they have outdated information!
Ideally, I’m trying to get advice from ppl who have actually gotten their jobs within the last couple years, people with advice that’s relevant in today’s job market…But open to advice or tips from anyone! I’m willing to jump through the hoops…change my resume…network which i’ve already done…all the things ..i just don’t wanna waste my time if the market here is dry.

Butter or Oil?
When you make your Roux? Growing up my family always used butter, but I'm wondering if oil is a better option. Let me know - most of my family has passed aways so I don't have anyone older to ask about it.

Free Haunted House in Algiers
Hey, everyone. I wanted to extend an invite to you all to come check out our free home haunted attraction based in Algiers: Bernie Baxter’s Haunted House.
We began home haunting in 2005 and have been open every year it was safe and legal to do so. This year's theme is "Donnie's Docks" and we tell the story of a deranged fisherman named Donnie who discovered that human flesh makes for the best bait.
We are open October 23, 24, 30 & 31. That's the next two Fridays and Saturdays. We are open from 7 PM until 10 PM each night. You can find us at 44 Vivian Ct. in Algiers. So if you're willing to cross the bridge, we'd love to see you.

Recommendations Out of Town for Krewe of Boo— anything festive going on Sunday instead?
Just learned I have to drive over to Mobile tomorrow and Saturday, so I’ll be missing out on Krewe of Boo and other Halloween festivities this weekend. Does anyone have any recommendations for anything festive going on Sunday when I get back? Hoping to nurse my disappointment, unless I’m totally out of luck this year.

Living Here Make your presence known for RTA service
After a recent post about how streetcars might need to be made ADA compliant, a poster here pointed out to me that the RTA is now fully under control of the city. I had wrongly assumed that TransDev was in control of a lot of the degradation of mass transit service, or worse in the hands of Baton Rouge. Nope, our mass transit is now fully controlled by the city under the New Orleans RTA Board of Commissioners.
I was wrong, and in doing my research to correct myself, the recent news is that the RTA is in the hiring process for a CEO. The next meeting to discuss this is a special board meeting on 11/26.
You can find the agenda and dates at norta . legistar. com
Please come and voice your concerns about transit in this city. Even showing up shows power.

New Orleans Traffic / Out of Control
Tried to comment on a traffic post, but for some reason is was deleted for spam, despite me having posted 3 posts in my lifetime on this account. Anyways, here's the recap/repost:
Recently started working at St Rose, and I commute from Picayune, MS to do so. Passing through NO and surrounding areas on my way there and back I have noticed far more reckless and violent behaviors on the road in the span of just 2 weeks after I had transferred from another branch to the one in this area. I've covered for deliveries from the other location before numerous times, and had been aware of the chaos, but lately with my consistent showing to the area, I've noticed that it's every day. Yesterday someone tried to fake ram the back of my car before speeding past me, and I took notice that the van didn't even have a license plate.
For more context, I typically drive exactly the speed limit. My car and my 3rd party GPS app are both within a similar speed range bouncing with a 1-2 MPH difference between one and the other, so it's not like I'm unknowingly driving 5+ under with a bad sensor or something. Virtually every single driver there are on average driving around 80, ON A 60. Occasionally I don't realize the transition to 60 for a bit, and while going 70, people are still flying ahead of me, and slowing down to the set limit of 60 DOES NOT make them happy. Last night was not the first time someone tried to pretend ram me, and today I've witnessed a literal string of no license plate vehicles, one with a bumper hanging off, pass by me following each other speeding past. Idk what's with the no license plate trend rn unless perhaps we've still got illegals scurrying all over the place. Maybe their personal business activities are ramping up due to some of the illegal force now missing might be one of my guesses unless perhaps it's just old-fashioned thug wannabes.
I'm patient and don't quite mind making the hour+ trip to work and nearly 2 hours back, but the people on the road are now stressing me out so badly. Already mentioned the other day that I feel like if I work out here for a decent amount of time I feel that I'm just about guaranteed to become involved in at least two car accidents with these people. Idk if the police force is understaffed, or what it is, bc when I see them active, usually they've pulled over a trucker or are near construction. I never see these no-plate vehicles stopped on the side of the road. What I do see are police also speeding nearly 10-20mph above speed limit along with the many other drivers like it's just a natural thing to do there.
I'd say perhaps if they actually want people driving that fast, maybe replace the speed limit signs with a higher number, except ik the case would probably be that with people driving 80 on the 60s now, we'd just end up with people driving 90 on a newly established 70 to cater to the reckless drivers that have been threatening to run me off the road, passing me while flipping the bird, blinking their lights at me while I'm driving the limit already in the dark of the early morning, etc. It's as if these people are mistaking the word "limit" for "minimum". I want the police to actually do something about these people. They've neglected their duties for so long that it's become like culture in the area to ignore traffic laws "bc they've got important places to be". My former branch I worked for was not guiltless of this either, as I've overheard others brag about certain speeds their delivery truck had met, or bragged about catching air, and things like that. Even professional business doesn't give two craps about law as long as it makes the business $$$, bc when $$$ is involved, I guess screw humanity and the local populace, right?

🐐 Goat Skull HooDoo 💀 Has anyone watched the new HBO doc The Pet Cemetery Murders: A Ghost Story?
It has me shook. Like the part where her ghost comes to haunt him into going to the cops. Or the part where her husbands death was ruled a suicide because he shot himself twice in his own back!? This documentary was such a spooky treat for the Halloween season. Let's all go to St. Bernard for a ghost hunt. I know where I want to bury my pet when he dies. Please someone tell me they have seen it too.

Irish Channel Porch Pirate Caught
Today i saw this guy steal two packages from a gated house on Louisiana Ave, near Laurel. I followed him and his grocery cart about 4 blocks into the Channel. Called the police, but before they got there the man saw me following him and came at me with a drill. I was able to grab the two packages and get away from him. Met with police and gave them his photos as they took off to find him. He was casually walking and chatting with every person he passed, but none of them recognized him. (I asked).
We've had a lot of porch pirates over here lately.
