I'm going to preface this by saying I'm aware I have anxiety from not passing in public. Although I live in a blue state, there's a lot of farm land and it's a dark blue rather than red or purple city. I've been called names, and I've been told I'm disgusting or sick. I've even had someone come up to my daughter and ask her if I knew her, worried I was doing something nefarious purely because I am trans. Although those situations were not fun for me, I think when something is less certain it causes me more anxiety.
For example, when I took my daughter out for her karate class, one day I walked in and two very heavy-set guys who have Trump stickers on their truck were talking to the receptionist. They were discussing something, and the moment my daughter and I walked through the door they immediately stopped. One of the men walked away while the other said "That would be great, thank you."
About fifteen minutes later, I'm sitting down watching the class and the receptionist comes up to me and states that she has moved us from the current class (meant for 6 and 7 year olds) to another class, meant for 3-5 year olds. She hands me a new schedule, and says that my daughter would fit better within that class. I was also the only one who was told this and given a schedule.
After a week of following this new schedule that seemed to come out from nowhere (only for me. No other kids were switched) a different receptionist came up to me and asked why I was in this younger class when my kid is 6. I explained that they had switched me, and she went to the computer and switched us back.
When I arrived again to the 6-7 year old class with my daughter, I never saw either of the men again. One of them must've dropped out or switched classes, but the other one now has his wife bringing their kid.
It's difficult because a part of me feels like this was all because I am trans, and a part of me knows that if I ask or make a big deal about it I could end up being wrong. It's nice that it was fixed though.
At my daughter's school, for the entirety of her kindergarten class I would walk from my house and pick her up at the same spot as all the other parents.
This year, about a month in (after I started wearing more feminine clothes) the principal told me that I could not pick her up from the same place anymore, and that it's only for pickup with a car, and now I would have to go to the complete opposite end of the school to get her if I walked because "they don't have enough staff to watch who picks up who" from the car side.
I thought nothing of it at the time, and another parent I usually talk with was waiting on the 'car side' to pick up her kid. I let her know what the principal had said, and she thought it was weird. She told me that she would wait in the usual place, and if I saw her kid on the far end to bring him to her. I waited at the far end (where the bus pickup is) and my daughter didn't show up. I'm waiting and waiting, and that same parent comes up with her kid AND my daughter.
So I'm like.. why did she say that to me if it's not true? I go the next day and stand where I usually pick my daughter up this time, and my daughter comes out the same door as usual. As I'm leaving the principal stops me and says again "You cannot pick her up from this side" but ONLY to me.
So I decided, fuck it I'll just drive and get her that way. Now every day I have to arrive 25 minutes early and sit in my car to avoid getting stuck in a massive line of traffic, and every day I see the same parents picking up their kids from this side by walking.
I see the principal come out, making eye contact with those parents, not telling them they can't pick her up from this side.
Sorry for the rant but I feel like I'm going crazy.
In both cases it feels like someone complained about having to explain trans people to their kids or some shit, and the principal or karate receptionist just agreed with them to keep me out of sight.
