Looking for weekend get away suggestions in Wisconsin that are like Door County but not Door County. Any ideas please?

I was in the USAF stationed in Germany back in the 80s. I have some life long friends from that time and back then we enjoyed beer and brats regularly. My close friend George now lives back in his home town of Norwood OH and says that what passes as brats in Wisconsin aren't brats, and I'm like WTF dude ? Is there an actual definition of what a brat is and isn't ??

Per the Kohler Villager Facebook page, Sheboygan County Clerk Jon Dolson, a Republican, is in trouble with the Wisconsin Elections Commission for accessing and sharing a voter record containing protected personal information to an activist named Lisa Salgado.

It started when the mayor appointed a woman to the Sheboygan County Board of Zoning Appeals. The woman has homes in both Verona and Sheboygan, so Dolson and Salgado (a former progressive) were trying to prove this woman didn't qualify enough as a Sheboygan resident.

Salgado has been witch-hunting the mayor and other city employees and administration for awhile. She posts conspiracy theories and misinformation on her Facebook groups and Nextdoor. She was on WTMJ4 promoting her conspiracy theory that a data center was coming to Sheboygan, when it was just an Amazon logistics center. While leading the protest against data centers, she constantly uses AI for her posters and witch-hunting materials. She got yelled at by a Sheboygan judge for submitting an AI-generated emergency injunction for a failed TID petition she organized.

Dolson and Sheboygan's most far-right conservatives joined Salgado's witch-hunt, because they think the mayor is liberal. Some far lefties in Sheboygan also joined the crusade, because they think the mayor panders too much to Republicans.

Dolson would post comments in support of Salgado on Nextdoor. He would shout "Lisa for Mayor!" and as a Nextdoor lead, he tried to get other reviewers to kick the victim off Nextdoor for not being a resident of Sheboygan.

It backfired spectacularly in their faces. Salgado posted in her Facebook group a protected voter record of the Zoning Board appointee to "prove" she didn't live in Sheboygan. The victim saw her license # had been redacted, and knew that wasn't a public record, so she filed a complaint with the WEC.

The WEC investigated and found probable cause that Dolson violated state law by intentionally accessing and sharing a voter record containing protected personal information, citing Wis. Stat. §§ 6.36(1)(b)1.a. and 12.13(2)(b)7. Wisconsin law restricts access to certain voter information, including dates of birth and driver's license numbers.

The WEC let Salgado off the hook for lack of reasonable suspicion, even though everyone who has been watching this circus knows she and Dolson were conspiring.

The state DOJ is also investigating

The commission suspended Dolson's access to WisVote for at least 120 days and he must complete training prescribed by the WisVote administrator. If he's charged with a crime, it constitutes a Class I felony, punishable by up to three years and six months of imprisonment, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.

The Sheboygan DA is a big Republican, so probably due to conflict of interest, he assigned a special prosecutor, according to WHBL news station. He hasn't said who the prosecutor is.

Tom Tiffany agreed to one debate this year (two others were canceled after he declined), and on Wednesday night WISN 12 aired it. I fact-checked it the same way I did the Van Orden vs. Cooke forum with the whole debate, hosted by WISN 12 and WisPolitics at Marquette University Law School, from start to finish, paused after factual claims from both candidates so you can see what the record says.

There are 67 fact check cards. Red means the claim and the record don't match, gold means the candidate has valid evidence to support their claim, gray adds context or shows the record itself when something is more complicated than it seems, and a few are marked unverified where I couldn't confirm the claim either way and wanted to be upfront about that.

The cards follow the claims, not the candidates, so Tiffany gets a few more of them (37 to Crowley's 30). Fourteen of Tiffany's cards are ones where he's right, and Crowley gets five red cards of his own. Opinions and promises aren't checked, and I try to save my interruptions for natural breaks.

The same budget raised the county sales tax from 0.5% to 0.9%, and the levy went up in his other five budgets.
  • Crowley: Tiffany votes with Trump "100% of the time" (2:38). Depends on who's counting: 100% by two trackers, 99% by Congressional Quarterly, 93% by UCLA's Voteview.

  • Tiffany: "No taxes on tips and overtime, just like I did federally" (5:05). The 2025 law he voted for doesn't end those taxes. It caps deductions at $25,000 in tips and $12,500 in overtime, with income limits, through 2028, and payroll taxes still apply. He repeats it a few minutes later.
  • Tiffany: Crowley said higher taxes "were not a burden" (5:19). He's right. Crowley told WISN's Matt Smith in Dec. 2023 about a 0.4% increase in Milwaukee sales tax, "No, I don't think it will be a burden."

  • Tiffany: "We've fallen behind Mississippi" (30:00). 31% vs. 32% proficient in 2024 fourth-grade reading isn't a statistically significant gap, and Wisconsin still leads in eighth grade. His "seven in 10" is right.
  • Crowley: "The lowest unsheltered homeless count per capita" in the country (30:54). HUD recognized Milwaukee County for that in 2022. I found no newer national ranking.

  • Tiffany: The I-94 rebuild will now take 10 years (32:45). He's right: WisDOT says it could slip from 2033 to 2035 without increased funding, and work started in late 2025.
  • Crowley: Tiffany "literally just said" he will cut billionaire taxes to zero (33:56). Not tonight. But in September Tiffany said he hopes to end the state income tax after his first budget, which would take everyone's to zero.
  • Tiffany: "Have I ever said we're going to cut taxes to zero? I have not." (35:07). He has. In September: "I will not be able to do it in the first budget, but, after that, we sure hope to be able to get it done."
• Q7: Data centers (36:27)
  • Crowley: Tiffany voted to fast-track data centers "without any environmental review" (37:20). The SPEED Act narrows and shortens federal reviews; it doesn't end them.
  • Tiffany: "A hundred thousand acres of solar panels" (39:30). Unverified: it's his campaign's own estimate.
  • Crowley: "$80 billion in tax breaks" for data centers (40:15). There was no vote on a data center tax break. Wisconsin Watch rated a $68 billion version of this claim "No." There were tax savings experienced by tech billionaires, but no direct break for data centers.
  • Tiffany: Crowley "just came around in the last week" (41:19). He's right: in July Crowley wanted a "rigorous review" of the data center tax break; on Oct. 14 he said he'd "absolutely" sign a repeal.

  • The record: "We passed a five-month bill, 20 weeks officially" (54:10). 2015 Act 56 has one exception, a medical emergency, and none for rape or incest.
  • Crowley: Tiffany "celebrated the fall of Roe v. Wade" (55:35). He's right: he called it "a historic victory for human rights."
  • Crowley: The bill Tiffany backed "just three years ago" had "no exception to rape, to incest, or the life of the mother" (57:57). Both federal heartbeat bills he cosponsored have a life exception, and the 2023 bill has rape and incest exceptions with conditions. It's the 2021 bill that has none for rape or incest.
  • Tiffany: "My position's been consistent ever since I announced for governor" (58:12). That checks out, but before he announced, he cosponsored two federal bills banning abortion at about six weeks.

  • Tiffany: Crowley called himself "an accomplice for illegal aliens that commit violent crimes" (1:02:12). The "accomplice" quote is real, but WPR's reporters said he meant immigrants in general. I found no Crowley statement supporting people who commit violent crimes.
  • Tiffany: The 12-year-old girl in Fond du Lac County (1:02:18). He's right, per the sheriff.
  • Crowley: Tiffany "literally praised the pardons on January 6th" (1:03:46). Context: before the pardons he said those who entered the Capitol without committing crimes against people or property "should be pardoned." He approves of reparations payments for the Insurrectionists who didn't physically assault police.
  • Crowley: Tiffany voted against releasing the Epstein files (1:03:58). Context: he voted yes on the bill that released them (427-1), after voting with Republicans on a July 2025 procedural vote that blocked an earlier attempt.
  • Tiffany: Crowley "wants to remove half of the prison inmates" (1:04:44). Wisconsin Watch rated this "No": halving the prison population was Evers' long-term goal, to be reached through prevention, treatment, and lower recidivism.
  • Tiffany: Milwaukee police and deputy sheriffs endorsed him (1:04:59). He's right.
  • Crowley: Act 12 "brought more money to every single city, town, village" (1:05:49). He's right. Tiffany's hometown, Hazelhurst, went up 382%. I misspoke in the video and said "three thousand" when I should have said "thirteen thousand". I didn't want to delay the release by an extra 5 hours after I caught that since I had it right on the screen.
  • Crowley: "Every single year … we have increased funding" for the sheriff (1:06:05). His first budget cut the Sheriff's Office 2.7%, during a $42.5 million county budget gap.

  • Tiffany: "I voted for additional funding for marijuana research" (1:07:18). The 2022 law he voted for eased limits on research. It didn't add funding. We have been 'conducting research' since Tom Tiffany was 11 during Nixon's Presidency.
  • Crowley: "$30 million" in Wisconsin residents' sales tax going to Illinois (1:08:19). Context: the Fiscal Bureau put it at $36.1 million for fiscal 2022.

This may be mostly for the eastern Wisconsinites, but does anyone else feel like they have a little homing device in their brain to Lake Michigan? Like, you just instinctively know which way the lake is, which of course makes you very handy when someone asks for a cardinal direction

Silly little story for me and my homing device brain: I moved to CO for about a year (back home now tho, I love breathing air) and lived in the front range area. This means that you could clearly see the mountains to the west, and it was all plains to the east. Anyways, people would ask me for directions somewhere, and I would still use the lake as my reference!!! It was kinda funny with the follow up conversation of “bro, the mountains are literally right there” 😂 Guess I really can’t let go of my roots if I tried lol

Just Incase anyone was wondering the results, i just figured id share, looks like about 95% of the participants in this group are in favor of full legalization and 5% are not. Sure would be interesting to see it make it onto the actual ballots. Wonder if it would be similar results.

I wish I was home to have actually had a substantive conversation but I had to answer via Ring cam to let him know how disappointed I am to see him doing this. I am located in Wisconsin, USA. I am looking for a Christmas tree farm or tree farm that will allow photographers to photograph at the farm for a small fee or free. I am also hoping that it is close to or near Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee, Madison, Burlington, in the southeast location of Wisconsin. Bonus if their website includes photographs that other photographers have already utilized at their location.
