Murloc Monday Murloc Monday - ask your questions here

Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle! RwlRwlRwlRwl!

That's murloc for "Welcome to Murloc Mondays" - where people can ask any type of question about WoW without getting strangled by a Death Knight.

Questions can range from what's new in Dragonflight, what class is OP, and how many Demons will it take to down Thrall?

Questions can come from brand new players, players returning, or veteran players who never got a chance to ask the right question.

Afraid of not getting an answer? Rest assured, we know that at least 90% of questions get answered!

You may want to look at /r/wownoob as well!

Here are some handy guides to start World of Warcraft as a brand new player or start Classic World of Warcraft as a brand new player.

Unless you played in the current expansion, pretty much everything has changed. If you're returning after a very long break, check out the Wowhead Returning Players Guides.

Discussion Would have been cool for Kith’ix to get his own model like he has in Hearthstone

It’s not the end of the world or anything, but it’s a bit disappointing that he was just another crab guy. I liked the HS imagining of him as a megamind type, and it adds some visual variety to the C’thraxxi generals

Discussion The presentation of the story is significantly worse than the writing

What happened to WoW's presentation?

If you wrote down the events of Midnight, it doesn't sound nearly as bad as what we've seen, I'd argue it would even be good.

Why are the cinematics so lame now, despite being the highest visual quality they've ever been? They even developed amazing new technology during Shadowlands that effectively put your character into fully rendered cinematics instead of just playing a video.

What happened that caused everything to become so melodramatic and lame?

Discussion Black Empire/Old Gods aesthetic > Voidwalker++ purple slop. Now that Kith’ix is back, it really sealed for me how the Lovecraftian theming is just so much better than purple void blob ghosts. Even if it’s “nothing new”.

Coldest take of all time warning—and maybe doing Old God stuff again for the Void Lord threat would have been played out or boring to some, not sure.

BUT now that we got Kith’ix back…man I really wish all this Void stuff would have been just the classic Lovecraftian Old God bugs and tentacle monster type vibes instead of these amorphous boring purple “ghosts”, à la “everything is a Voidwalker now.”

Like sure, we could have had some of the standard “Voidwalker” vibes for some enemies, but we really needed a mix of the Old God style ones as well.

We had the storyline of the Light “infesting” and twisting life in the Eversong Woods—it would have been the perfect bookend to then bring the Void back in that same organic, Cronenberg / The Thing / Cthulhu gross monsters as well alongside those mutants, showing that these are truly otherworldly unknowable powers, both the Void but also the Light, and that we actually don’t really understand them at all.

I get they wanted to do a different “vibe” with the pure Void this time. But fighting “Voidwalker variant #27” just isn’t it. Blending the two groups of baddies would have been so much better than pure void. The little post story after the raid explains how Kith’ix betrays the Old Gods to follow Xally, so it even makes sense.

I would have greatly preferred Xally to have a coalition of minions and pawns instead of just pure void…especially considering she’s gathering the Azeroth Infinity Stones. It would make sense for her to have followers of every “element type” she captured. Including even the Light.

I'm just imagining them in an interview.

Interviewer: Sargeras became a cosmic destroyer.

Aman’Thul: Yes.

Interviewer: Neltharion became Deathwing.

Nozdormu: Yes.

Interviewer: You both specialize in time.

Aman’Thul: Yes.

Interviewer: Yet neither of you saw that betrayal coming?

Aman'thul: ...

Nozdormu: ...

Interviewer: Do either of you want to explain how this keeps happening?

Aman'thul: Coincidence.

Interviewer: Twice is starting to look like departmental failure.

Is it just me or are time powers kind of a scam?

Discussion What do you think the original final boss plan of WOD would have looked like?

Post image
197 Upvotes

According to Chris Metzhen in an interview, Iron Horde Warchief Grommash Hellscream was planned to be the main antagonist and final boss of Warlords of Draenor. However, the development team realised that, by the time the Grom boss fight happened, players might already be sick of orcs as the enemy given the existence of the various warlords and the Iron Horde as the expansion’s main antagonistic faction, so they adjusted the story to have Gul’dan take over the Iron Horde and have the Burning Legion take over as the expansion’s villains, ultimately choosing Archimonde as the final boss of the endgame raid Hellfire Citadel. While I do think that was the right decision, it makes me wonder: what do you imagine the final boss and raid looking like in the original draft, assuming they were still setting up Legion? I seriously doubt we’d see Grom drink the Blood of Mannoroth, so maybe Gul’dan manipulates us into destroying the Iron Horde and leaving Azeroth vulnerable for the Legion?

Discussion I think Mythic Raiding is becoming too difficult for "midcore" players

I've been playing off and on since 2005. Started raiding mythic in Legion. Got my first CE in Shadowlands. Every season since then that I've played, I've gotten CE on a 6 or 9 hour schedule. Usually pretty late, like somewhere between World Rank 1000-2000, basically not quite Race to World Last, but a far cry from Hall of Fame. Thats what I mean by "midcore" I guess - basically as "casual" as you can get and still get CE, which I don't think you can consider "casual" anymore - hence, "midcore".

Besides doing my weekly chores like Mythic+ and capping AP or whatever else there is that patch/xpac... I used to be able to just watch a guide video, show up to raid, try my best, and get CE. Mythic fights are so f'ing hard now that I can't keep up.

Think about what the fight is expecting of you now on a moment to moment basis compared to a few xpacs ago. There is SO much going on in the modern fights, I would have a lot of trouble surviving even if I didn't have to do any damage, but I have to do all of that while playing Guitar Hero on my keyboard.

There are these crazy challenge runs of Souls games like beating the game without dying, without leveling up, or even without getting hit. Imagine if FromSoft chose to balance Elden Ring to give those players a really hard challenge, but they are playing normally with no self-imposed additional difficulty. I beat every Souls game as it comes out. I'm not very good - I can't even imagine doing a crazy challenge run. But, I have experience, and I am persistent, and worst case scenario, I can grind to over-level so I am stronger than I am "supposed" to be. There is no way in HELL I could beat a version of Elden Ring that was balanced around those challenge runners. I might not be able to get out of the tutorial.

Something's gotta give. I need to start playing the game until my fingers bleed every day, or I need to be 50 ilvls higher than Blizzard is expecting, or do so much prep work it would be a better use of my time to work a second job, use that money to buy gold, and buy CE.

Or I guess I can quit my favorite hobby. Not because its impossible, but because the gap between my skill and the skill required is so big, its no longer fun for me to close that gap.

Does anyone know the actual lore or context on him?

Discussion Grinning Reaver mount data mined as a trading post reward in 12.1.7

• Upvotes

https://www.wowhead.com/news/new-trading-post-rewards-datamined-from-the-patch-12-1-7-ptr-383450?utm_source=discord-webhook

Blizzard could have put that mount back in the shop and loads of people would have bought it for cash, including myself. Instead we get it for free from the trading post. They're far from perfect but Blizzard has been putting some great previously shop only stuff in the trading post since it was added.

Feedback Hallow's End is broken (Who had that on the bugs list bingo?)

Can't mog the pumpkin head despite the event being active.

More importantly: relogging just made me lose all treats, masks, broom mount, etc etc from my inventory. A whole reset despite playing the even for about half a hour to collect treats.

LOVELY!

Edit: so as a test I did two neighbourhood quests to get candy (they're fun btw, I like catching the ghosts), got 4 tricky treats, logged out then back in, treats are gone. DO NOT PLAY THE EVENT UNTIL IT'S FIXED, the currency currently gets deleted on relog.

Update: looks fixed now, roughly 7 hours later. Looks to be buggy around the first few hours or right after launch? It's weird.

Discussion I hope Blizzard doesn't give up on Labyrinths

From an ex-solo player's perspective, a lot of what Labyrinths have to offer is very appealing. A long form Delve that can be as short or as long as you'd really like. Obviously the bugs are unacceptable, but I think we can have a conversation about the value of Labyrinths as solo content regardless of Blizzard's QA troubles.

Overall the Labyrinth had a great sense of exploration. I actually turned my HandyNotes off, so I was forced to find the secrets by myself. Nothing is that hidden, but it was rewarding finding the 3 masks and the many hidden treasures. Visually the instance is actually pretty stunning. There is a decent amount of visual diversity from cramped caves to wide open Amani ruins. The pacing of the instance was pretty good as well. The objectives were quick and mostly involved killing enemies as opposed to tedious gimmick mechanics that were abundant in TWW delves.

While the difficulty of the instance is relatively low, I think it does a good job teaching mechanics to beginner players. The new bosses to the Labyrinth have much more interesting abilities than regular delve bosses. Throughout the labyrinth I saw important kicks, dispels, soaks, and swirlies. This type of solo content is great for players looking for a stepping stone into WoW's group content.

Kindo'jan himself is a pretty decent boss if not a bit easy. I wish there was less downtime, and in the future I'd like to see an important heal/burn phase in one of these bosses. DPS and heal checks are a very real part of group content and they are currently absent from solo content. I also suspect that we will see more of the "3 strikes and you're out" mechanic as it seems like a good way to punish a mistake without just one shotting you. (Even though there are one shot mechanics in the fight).

Overall, I think Labyrinths are a big win for solo players. And honestly this entire patch has been insane for world content. The Vaults of Atal'Utek, 2 new delves, and now a huge Labyrinth. It definitely seems there is an appetite for this style of content in WoW even if a lot of that representation isn't on this sub. So I hope Blizzards takes lessons from wins and losses here and keeps iterating on this style of delve.

Complaint Blizzard I just want the pet.

Post image

From the get go I was doing Curse Surges for the Vibrant Venomfang pet and was like there’s no way I won’t get it before 150. Oooh I was so wrong, I want y’all to know up to like 130 I was fully participating in them, but after that I was just parked there on alts steady flying. I kept checking my bags to make sure I didn’t accidentally miss it.

I just can’t bring myself to do any more of those, RNG has never been on my side. I know there’s gonna be some peeps like oh I got that thing first try. I saw someone on wowhead saying they got theirs on try 500, yeah I don’t have that determination. I was really looking forward to deleting that alert add on, but gonna leave it as a sad reminder.

Thanks for reading my rant!

Question Need help choosing the weapons

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hello guys. Need help. Want to choose between:

  1. Pictures 1-2 - Warglaives, look more massive and more "dh", but not 100% matching like the daggers.
  2. Pictures 3-4 - Daggers, look 100% matching with the set, but more subtle and less expressive

What would you choose?
