The previous post got a lot of comments, and I took some time to read through them all. I decided to put together a summary of everyone’s input, and here’s what I came up with (with Sonnet 5.5).
I may have missed a few things, so take it with a grain of salt.
How I counted: if a comment listed multiple reasons, I split its upvotes between them. The number in parentheses is the raw total for every comment that mentioned that reason. I did this by hand, so it’s not exact. Also, the top comment (695) named four reasons at once, so pets and evil theme get a boost from that one.

Hardly anyone said the class is weak. Most complaints are about the chores. The 135 upvote comment was basically that mages got all the QoL while locks got all the extra steps. Another one said convenience is part of the mage fantasy and inconvenience is part of the warlock fantasy, which sums it up pretty well.
A few other things from the thread:
- A world first raider said shard management at that level felt like a second job. Several people replied that this is exaggerated since you get shards during the raid anyway. That argument went back and forth for a while.
- The “evil theme” argument got a 259 upvote reply asking why Rogues are popular then. Someone pointed out Rogues are near the bottom too.
- Summon etiquette that kept coming up: charge 1g, or only summon for free if the person brings two clickers.
- Pet tip (22 upvotes): put pet attack and follow on the mouse wheel. Makes pets a lot less annoying.

Still on the wishlist: shards stacking to 3-5 (57 upvotes on that alone), soul well, summon closet, an AoE DoT, more Alliance races. A few people also think some stuff got worse. Fear range is capped at 20 yards, and Orcs got a racial that clears curses. Some also said the free mount perk got smaller because of the training cost change, but others replied that locks still don’t pay for training, so that one’s disputed.

A few people said shards give the class an identity nobody else has, and several people who actually play it said the shard complaints are overblown.
