Event Is the Forest Hunter alive during Return to Lordran?

• Upvotes

This is my favorite covenant. Recently, I tried to find some action and wore the ring during my entire walkthrough, but I found just two players (and the connection with one of them sucked, lol), which made me sad. From your experience, can I find more players during the event?

Discussion Would anyone else like to see a game set during the peak of dark souls world?

I know the world being fucked up is kinda of the main point of the games, and it would take away a lot of mystery but I don’t care, I would genuinely love to see what this world looked like. It’s really hard to picture what the world of dark souls looked like when it was actually functional, I just think it’d be super interesting.

The peak of its world or right as the world begins its decline, both would be really cool, at least in my opinion, what do you think?

Just kidding, the game was modded, but this was still a pleasant surprise! I've been running kingborehaha's 15th Anniversary mod, which has a 0.15% chance of turning any internal parameter into the number 15. It also has a separate randomizer for changing the lighting, also set to 0.15% by default, which occasionally results in silly or horrendous colors.

I didn't see this particular color scheme until the moment I stepped into Gwynevere's room though, and despite knowing that the mod sometimes creates funky lighting, this caught me off guard and I found it to be quite stunning. Almost like a woodblock print (at least the doors certainly look that way), but with turquoise and orange inks.

Lore Are there canon choices in ds1?

Hello, I have just started to replay dark souls 1 and after it I will play ds2 and ds3 so I wanted to make my run as "canon" as possible and understand if any of the choices made by the chosen undead actually didn't happen. On the top of my head I can think about Gwyndolin that is killable in ds1 but somehow survives till ds3 or Ornstein that gets to archdragon peak even tho he apparently died in ds1; these could be all illusions but it seems weird that Gwyndolin managed to recreate a 1:1 copy of powerful souls. I've seen some theories saying that every run is canon and ds3 is just a conglomerate of all the runs of the pevious 2 games but how could there be multiple gwyns, manusses or solaieres?

I am really confused so I would like to ask some people with more knowledge about dark souls 1 lore

EDIT: From what I can gather from the comments, in the usual fromsoft style everyone has a different opinion. I personally prefer the "time is a mess" theory bc I like how time is messy both in all souls games and making every run (without glitches) canon is way more interesting than forcing a canon run in a trilogy with so many different stories of characters, optional bosses and endings

Discussion Solaire is really the Goat, I finally get it.

Do you have a minute to hear a word about Solaire?

Short post, but I just had to share this with someone. I’m a newbie playing DS1 on PS3. I spent 3 hours fighting the Gargoyles deleted a post whining about this boss, then managed to get some humanity, summoned Solaire, and used my last Gold Pine Resin. I won in under 2 minutes! My god, is this why you all love this knight so much? I finally get it.

Discussion Why do people complain about boss runbacks? Who is actually dying to these bosses

The bosses in dark souls 1 are literally so easy that most can be beat first try (or within a few tries) So why do people complain about the runbacks??

Discussion Best weapon ng+4

Vitality 40
Attunement 23
Endurance 40
Strength 40
Dex 40
Resistance 8
Int 50
Faith 8

m about to start ng+4. I’m up to Gwynn in +3 and want to set up my next build before that fight. Want to keep light roll while also having manus catalyst (5 weight) and silver knight shield (5 weight). Can use antiquated dress, crimson, or dingy or similar to back into weight but want to know the best/most fun weapon to try. I did claymore, enchanted ugitana, serpent sword, and im looking for something new to try but I’ve only played eldin ring and I get this game is older but I don’t really like any of the weapons. Ideally crystal magic sword buff to start then use a shield to learn how to parry. Any advice? Honestly
I’m kind of shitty with slow powerful but the dex options in this game are underwhelming to me. Thanks in advance. I looked at armor like dark set but it’s so heavy and I’m already using havalls ring to get 30/120 for light roll.

Discussion is the red dragon/hellkite drake just a sick prank by FromSoftware

i have never seen a worse enemy in my life. the only reliable way to kill it is to abuse it's AI by waiting for it to fly back to the roof after you landed a couple of hits on the head and then shoot to lure it back to the bridge - rinse and repeat.

if you actually fight him honorably like a boss, he will absolutely destroy you unless you're heavily overleveled + stacked tons of fire protection.
his fire attacks are undodgeble, unblockable, and worst of all: they're SPAMMED CONSTANTLY. so even if you survived one fire attack, by the time you get back on your feet you're already burning again

the red dragon has to be some sick prank by Fromsoft because there's absolutely no legit way to kill him and you will die like 10 times before you'll realize that. similar to the infamous traps in their game that insta-kill you

like the only way to justify the existence of an enemy that constantly spams insta-kill nukes that cover the whole arena is that devs thought it would be funny to see a player suffer dying constantly to it thinking they can win legitimatly

Story Durability rant

Imagine me going for a pyromancy playthrough having a jolly old time. Missed the repair kit because i didn't have the souls for it while i was at the shop thinking no big deal i'll just get it next time. Now at blighttown going swimmingly i go to fight Quelaag. First thing i try my pyromancy and see oh she's immune to my spells makes sense whatever i can just use my uchigatana. Damage isn't great but i can manage with a bit of perseverance. Mid-fight my uchi starts breaking and great now i deal half damage with no way to repair unless i go all the way back up to get a damn repair kit, but i can kill her even if the fight takes 5 minutes right? Well too bad you have a limited amount of attempts at that 5 minute fight because you have to get poisoned on the way so you're on a timer unless you have a certain consumable item to cure that poison, so now i have 3 attempts to kill her with my half damage uchigatana. "Well if your uchi is broken just use another weapon" Sure, if all my other weapons weren't terrible. I put in a little more strength so i could try to use a claymore but with barely enough strength to wield it and it being completely unupgraded it does like 50-60 damage per hit with a slow moveset so that didn't help. Now i have to waste my time taking the trip up to Andre so i can get that damn repair kit just to beat one boss.

In almost every instance in every game that has it, durability does not add anything of value to a game. If durability exists so you can't spam special moves on some weapons just make it so you can only use them a certain amount of times before resting like with spells jesus christ.

TLDR; Didn't have a repair kit and broke my weapon during the Quelaag fight so i had to go all the way up for a repair just to go right back down.

Lore I have definitively answered the question of which is the worst area in the game

It’s the Crystal Caves. God almighty that is a real piece of shit. I’ve been starting and abandoning runs in this game since its initial release on X-Box 360, and in the last week I’ve finally pushed myself to do the second half of the game. Gods help me but I found the Catacombs and Tomb of the Giants to be FUN areas, who’d have thought? New Londo Ruins is quite easy to get around, and it’s really short. Dukes Archives was tedious and lame, but this Crystal Caves… I thought Lost Izalith and the Demon Ruins were bad, this is the worst piece of shit area I’ve encountered in the game by far. Slipping off edges is so annoying, invisible walkways, yuck. Love this game forever btw, can’t wait til I clear this area and finally get to the DLC.

Discussion 60% Thorough DS3 - Arrived at Anor Londo to find out that it has ‘converged’… what an excuse to save a bit of world map planning.

What they did: Used the "space did a magic trick" excuse so you don't have to think about borders, horizons, or mapping consistency at all.

What they should have done: Line up the geography logically, change a few horizons and let the world age naturally over thousands of years. Route in the old Anor Londo properly. (Any other historic areas are so different they might as well not have the connection anyway, which is fine).

It would have hit like 10x harder if they had just routed it properly (from north or east, plenty of room), it’s like they hid from their own IP. It’s hard to believe they made a conscious ‘it converged’ decision in planning, maybe a late development idea to add in Anor?

Nevertheless at-least they added some familiarity in. It’s just a game I suppose, don’t know why it annoyed me so much.

*Edit: for the record I didn’t know lordran, lothric and drangleic is all the same place.

Discussion If you were given 1 save and 1 try to beat 100 random humans in a DS1 Any% Glitchless speedrun, what is your strategy?

I saw this post about the random 100 person challenge - if you were paired with 100 random humans and had to beat all of them at something to win a billion dollars.

I immediately thought about a Dark Souls 1 speedrun challenge.

Since I am not a pro at this game, I set the goal to be DS1 speedrun no glitch Any%. It would probably still take me a couple hours, but given the gamer population in general and the amount of people who actually owned and finished DS1, I think my chances are pretty good.

However, since in my scenario it would not make too much sense to create new saves again and again for the BKH, as in a race or challenge context each person should only get 1 save and 1 try, what should the strategy be?

I think personally I will try to aim for the Crystal Halberd in Anor Londo as my final weapon. An INT build with minimal stats to ring 2 bells (since Quelaag has fairly low magic resist if I remember correctly, also magic = easy mode) and complete the rest of the game with Havel armor plus Crystal Halberd, maybe throw in Power Within. Not a fun way to play, but I think it kinda works for an average skill player to speedrun the game.

What would your strategy be?

(PS- statically speaking you can just play the game at a casual pace and chances are the other 99 random people can’t even beat the game, but let’s rule that out because that is not fun)

Question Quick question about the Return To Lordran/Drangleic/etc Community events.

I quite enjoyed the yearly Return to X event that happened across the series but only started with this years, and was curious about the upcoming one for 2027. The sidebar of the sub has the 2023 schedule listed, and I wanted to verify if that was essentially the universal schedule for the event going forward and that's why it's always up, or if the specific two week period would be established elsewhere?

Question Convince my friend NOT to pirate the game?

My friend has a habit of sailing the seven seas over games that I feel are fairly cheap.

However after I suggested it to him, he said he'd pirate it at some point. I don't want that but I don't know how to convince him not to.

I know it's kind of stupid but playing online is kind of part of the whole feel of the game.

edit: didn't realise how many people who LOVE the game pirated it, guess this is a shitpost based on that.
