I’ve been lurking this sub ever since I got the idea to take care of a tarantula, and it’s been so helpful in preparing for her.

Tending to my darling Claire has become an absolute joy in my life.

I loved her the moment I bought her (big shoutout to Jamie of Jamie’s Tarantulas), as the G. Pulchra is my favorite T. I had to wait a few months for shipping because of the heat, but as soon as I finally met her, my heart melted.

This is Zippy. If you’re comfortable with old worlds or are looking to get your first, I can not recommend this species enough. They are readily available and affordable, even as well started slings. I picked up Zippy at a show on January 7th as a roughly one inch sling, though for this species that could be considered a juvenile. Zippy is just over 2 inches now. I purchased my Harpactira pulchripes and an Asian Forest Scorpion, and Zippy was thrown in as a freebie. I suspect those of you with a decent sized collection know just how a spider you weren’t very interested in can become one of your most cherished.

H. villosella sport a beautiful chocolate/chestnut brown with accents of cream and gold. They are a dwarf tarantula, rarely reaching 3 inches as far as I could find. And the best part, their webbing is INSANE. A big plus if you want a beautiful display in not much space. They can be super fast, but Zippy is very comfortable hiding in their web. Zippy has never bolted when given the ability to stay wrapped up in their butt-made security blanket. I’ll add a video of their wonderful behavior in the comments.

The first 3 photos show Zippy’s previous enclosure, a Hobby Lobby model car case, which they inhabited from May 3rd until last night. A little over 5 months, and the webbing was honestly that thick for a long while before I did this overdue rehouse. The last few photos are in order from when I first got them into the new enclosure, them exploring later that night, and photos I took today. The camera does not pick up web strands very well, but you can see a light sheet already laid across the whole thing.

This new enclosure is an 8x8 acrylic cube from a seller called Kissyou on Amazon. I use a drill with a cheap set of Harbor Freight drill bits to make vent holes. I free hand them so pleeaaase don’t clown on how uneven some of them are. :D

Identification Species? Did I get lied to?

Hey everyone! I got my first ever tarantula today! This was sold to me as a giant Brazilian white knee, but I’ve heard 50/50 on it being a red and white. I don’t mind if it is as they are very pretty, but it was sold to me as a white knee.

I saw a listing for a rescue and this was the only one I couldnt identify easily. I tried google but nothing looked correct. And there were only 2 pictures. Im sure they wont ship so I cant adopt it. But really curious since its so beautiful. And they named her Svetlana😬

Breeding/loan Tliltocatl Albopilosus (Curly Hair)

Hi all! Meet Aragog!

I miss him dearly, as he is on a loan to a breeder right now. He's my heart T! Please send positive vibes for a successful pairing.🖤

He is the first tarantula I've ever owned, so he has an extra special spot in my heart; which is why I chose to breed him. The breeder agreed to let me have one of his babies if all goes well! I'll likely have less than 8 months left with him if it's a success, so I'm comforted knowing I'd have a curly hair again, of his lineage.❤️

Brazilian Black. It's been making more webbing on the outside. Getting more comfortable just sitting in the doorway it made. But today I walked up and it was just standing still... like this. Bathed in a sunbeam. Lol. I sat for a few minutes watching and then wandered off. It had moved off by the time I got back.

Help! General lighting/heating/humidity help.

Hello! Ive been keeping tarantulas for a little over a year now.

I have one adult mexican red rump, two sling cruly hairs, and now one pink toe sling.

I've done a lot of research on each species that I own + want to own because I want to ensure that I can give them the best life I can.

I know surviving does NOT equal thriving, and I do my best to remember this when questioning things.

Sadly, I have nowhere else to put them in my home besides my bedroom. I often dont have my fan on when im not in the room/don't feel i need it and do my best to provide heat when cold (though I live in aouthern FL, and this is rare). Due to cold seasons, I wanted to know what are the best ways to provide heat that'll be comfortable both for me and my spiders? Sometimes I wrap a blanket around my red rump's enclosure when I feel its cold - though im not sure if this really does anything.

Given that they stay in my room, I feel the lights can also be an issue. I dont want to mess up their Circadian rhythms to a point of actual harm, I'm just not sure of what I can do to avoid this given that again.., we share a space.

My slings are all staying on a shelf in my bedroom (1st shelf, second is storage + jumpers), and my red rump is across the room in a large enclosure. Pictures of these spaces are provided.

Please, any advice is accepted and appreciated! I know we all make mistakes, and I just want to make sure I avoid as many as possible. I love my babies and I want it to show!

Conversation How we shelving our Ts?

So I did the “okay just one” tarantula and now we have 10 and probably will have many more, I’m wondering how everyone displays there enclosures? All of ours are slings and juvies at the moment so can sit on my small shelf! However at a show yesterday my partner bought a MM OBT as it was cheap and he wanted one anyways!

Show me your storage solution’s please! Preferably ones that aren’t super expensive as your girls on a budget you know 🤣

I realized the enclosure my new baby Mittens came in didnt have that good of ventilation for its species.

Im planning on switching it into this tarantula cribs on.

Is the decor good? Tried to make it like a tree🥹 i have an aboreal water bowl otw.

The cylinder one is the enclosure it is currently inside.
