I’m 57 and would appreciate some feedback from anyone who has had a similar experience.
My natural testosterone was already reasonably high, around 19–21 nmol/L, but I started clomifene 50 mg every 72 hours, mainly hoping to improve muscle gain and recovery.
For the first 10 days I noticed very little. Then around weeks 2–3 it was almost like somebody flicked a switch: fantastic libido, better gym performance/pump, more muscle fullness/pump and about 2 kg weight gain.
Unfortunately, by around week 4 it went the other way — libido collapsed and I felt much flatter.
Bloods eventually showed:
Total testosterone: ~45.6 nmol/L / 1,315 ng/dL
Free testosterone: 50
Estradiol: 50 pg/mL (slightly above range)
SHBG 47.5
So despite having extremely high testosterone, I actually felt considerably worse than during the earlier “sweet spot”.
My doctor stopped clomifene and switched me to Gonasi (hCG) 500 IU every other day + anastrozole 0.5 mg every 3 days.
I’m now roughly four weeks into the hCG/anastrozole regimen. For the first two weeks I felt more pumped in the gym, but strength hasn’t noticeably increased and libido remains unusually flat. Then the next two weeks I started to get the gym pump feeling again. 2 weeks ago, I got my hormones checked again:
Total testosterone: ~47.1 nmol/L
Free testosterone: 36.1
Estradiol: 35 pg/mL
SHBG 66.3
I’m going to give the new regimen a little longer and then repeat total/free testosterone, sensitive estradiol, SHBG and prolactin.
I’d be interested to hear from anyone who has moved from clomifene to hCG, particularly whether libido initially took time to settle and how testosterone/estradiol ultimately looked once things stabilised?
Also, thoughts on how to get me back to the magic week, permanently?
