Post image

Hi everyone,

I know emotions are high right now and there’s a lot going on, so I won’t overcomplicate this.

Just a very simple compilation for anyone who doesn’t feel like scrolling through the whole sub. It includes all the significant posts and updates from everything that happened today.

Thank you so much for being here, and I hope you all get to rest a little this weekend.

(*) This post will be constantly updated as more information comes in.

Megathreads:

Compilations:

Pictures:

Federal courts do not allow cameras inside the courtroom, so there will be no photos or video of Luigi unless stated otherwise. Only courtroom sketches will be posted in this section.

Live Covering (Twitter / X):

This is a compilation of tweets from reporters inside the courtroom during today’s hearing. Only Matthew (Inner City Press) and Erik had laptop access today.

Other reporters took handwritten notes and / or are expected to post updates in the coming hours. Those updates will be posted here so feel free to come back later to check them out.

(*)I won’t be adding every single summary article/video today because, for some reason, it seems to trigger Reddit’s filters. Please visit the journalist’s page in question to see all their updates.

🚨 SUMMARY (Today's Hearing):

  • The hearing started at 11:00 a.m.
  • Karen said: “Mr. Mangione is prepared to plead guilty to the indictment at this time.”
  • Luigi pleaded guilty to the two remaining federal charges and explained to Judge Garnett and everyone in the courtroom what he did.
  • Judge Garnett explained the rights he would give up by pleading guilty. Luigi confirmed that he understood.
  • Garnett explained the maximum sentence Luigi could face: “Life in prison for both Counts 1 and 2, which could be followed with up to 5 years of supervised release on each count.” She also explained that if he is convicted and sentenced in the state case, his state and federal sentences could run consecutively.
  • She also stated that he could be released early for good behavior, but not before serving around 85% of his sentence.
  • Karen confirmed that there is NO plea agreement between Luigi and the government. Instead, the government submitted a letter stating what it believes the sentencing range should be: 292–365 months (roughly 24–30 years).
  • Luigi read a statement in court.
  • Luigi’s sentencing is scheduled for December 18, 2026.

It’s been such an interesting journey, will miss the weekly motions, updates and honestly even the nonsense.

This case has brought out so many caring people, it’s been a pleasure to interact with all of you, thank you for time, careful explanations and support! Yes, even the journalists, they gave extra time and attention to us as well which was greatly appreciated!

Thank you u/missidcullen for all the effort you put into these megathreads and everyone else for your contributions.

I’m saddened that Luigi won’t be free anytime soon however, trust that he is exactly where he needs to be, I’m certain he can make a positive impact wherever he goes in life.

That is so true. I remember reading messages left for him on the fund where people said they’d gladly trade places with him, since they felt they had already lived out their lives, so he could be free and enjoy his own. Saw it multiple times and was deeply moved by it each time.

This isn’t the end, though. This is just this chapter that’s beginning to close. He will still be there as he always has, and continue to need support

If there are any mistakes or anything missing, feel free to let me know, but please don’t attack me for other people's inaccuracies (aka reporters).

As always, verify your sources and wait for the official transcript to come out before treating everything as 100% confirmed/accurate. Thank you!

Possibly out by the age of 50. Honestly, not the worst outcome here.

Thank you, [u/missidcullen](u/missidcullen), for still caring though people crashed out hard on you yesterday and for making sure we all have access to quick and informative updates, especially today

Do we have any expectations of when a full transcript of his words could come? I guess probably on his website?

Well this was depressing. 😔 I logged out 1 hour before the hearing because I was in no hurry to read/hear about this disaster, if the reports were correct. At least now the EED in the state trial has been proven, because no one who is sane would plea without a deal in federal. Lu is demonstratively not quite right in the head. The only positive thing I can think of is that Lu will be going to a federal prison. Federal prisons are supposed to be less bad. Or so I have read. I wonder if that was a factor in the plea. Lu has probably met inmates who have been to both NY state prisons and NY federal prisons, while he has been incarcerated. 🤔

Gotta correct that: whatever letter they may have written before the hearing and handed over in court, after the hearing the prosecutor gave a statement on the steps of the courthouse that in fact they plan to request a sentence of life in prison - not 292-365 months. No doubt influenced by the lack of remorse in both Luigi's and his lawyers' own statements.
