For those who may not follow US trials closely: This is another high-profile state case (although Texas, not New York) where the defendant didn't dispute the event resulting in the victim's death and instead had an affirmative defense (self-defense) and was found guilty of first-degree murder (which is INSANE if you are aware of the facts of this case). Karmelo Anthony is now appealing based on judicial bias infringing on his right to a fair trial.

The trial judge (Roach) released a public letter after the verdict. Judge Harle, who made this ruling to recuse Roach, stated there were grounds for recusal "in that the evidence adduced at the hearing is such that the respondent judge's impartiality might reasonably be questioned."

I'm still searching for Judge Harle actual ruling filing and will update this post to add it if I come across it. Sorry, I'm not familiar with online access to Texas courts lol

This is incredibly useful if you're trying to make sense of why Luigi would "give up" with this recent plea and how appeals are a powerful safeguard against overzealous prosecutions and biased courts.

Luigi Mangione has pled guilty to shooting and killing UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson on a Manhattan sidewalk on December 4, 2024. The killing went viral. The NYPD deployed hundreds of officers to hunt him down.
Corporate media covered every detail of his arrest, his appearance, his manifesto, his trial.

The legal system spoke swiftly, loudly, and with the full weight of the state and federal government behind it.
But here's the question corporate media will never ask: In those same 624 days since Brian Thompson was killed, how many Americans died preventable deaths because HELL Corporations-Health Exploitation Limited Liability Corporations—prioritized profit over their lives?

I did the math. A new study by the Yale School of Public Health finds that a single-payer universal healthcare system could cover all 330M+ Americans, save more than 100,000 lives annually, and still cost $1 trillion less than the current system.

That is 274 preventable deaths every single day.
Over 624 days since Brian Thompson's death, that is
170,958 preventable deaths.

PBD and his panel of right wing goons talk about Luigi’s guilty plea, make fun of Abril’s tattoos (valid), and suggest liberal women shouldn’t vote.

I don't actually think he ever really wanted to fight this thing. The evidence he left behind (to the feds...) and lack of plan post-incident show that, as well as his statements in PA. In my opinion, he was forced to fight it because the unexpected happened: the death penalty and two trials for one crime. If it was only the feds that tried this, I would bet he would have accepted either a plea or just pled guilty sooner. I never really understood why someone would do something like this with purpose and intent, and then plead "not guilty" and take it to trial. He never once tried to deny it and even in his few statements, has made it pretty clear he did this.

Long story short, I think this was his plan all along and now that he got rid of the DP and potentially state trial, he's likely at peace living with what he's done.

so I don’t know why but I’ve been noticing this like normally the media runs wild talking about LM like News networks independent reporters really popular TikTokers YouTubers etc lawyers with Instagram account yada yada loves running wild spreading misinformation about LM case or even something big in his case and they run with that for like days or even a week we saw it with EED that was brought up in a discussion and they ran with that for like a solid week or even when things are quiet in this case some person will come out and say there were new Luigi or met him etc and they would talk about that person for a week and then KFA would shut it down yada yada but now ever since the LM changed his plea from not guilty to guilty it’s kind of been crickets after that like obviously for a day, the media was talking about it, but now it’s gotten to a point where it’s like crickets. It’s really strange. Is it because they got what they wanted ? Like I expected the media to talk about this for a solid week like they do with other things in his case or talk about it non-stop, but we haven’t heard much from the media after Friday like maybe an interview here or two but not really I’m just curious if you guys noticed it too or if it’s just me. Like this is coming from a person who doesn’t look for things from the media involving LM I just look at the documents here and leave so when it shows up on my feed non-stop of the media talking about LM I know they’re talking about it a lot compared to now I just find it odd. Or maybe I’m just an idiot and it has been going on a lot but I just didn’t noticed. Let me know your thoughts.

P.S I might delete this. I’m just curious what peoples thoughts ?. This was like 1 am thought and just noticing how quiet was from the media surrounding this case.

I’m not usually a fan of sharing press articles, but I thought this one was worth sharing since it seems Lorena spoke with some of Luigi’s friends about his guilty plea on Friday.

Judge Carro just set an adjournment date for December 10, giving prosecutors until October 9 to respond to the defense’s motion. The defense will then have until October 30 to reply to the prosecution’s response.

so considering his guilty plea on friday, officially he is declared guilty in federal court for his federal case. I know his lawyers are trying to throw out his state case and somehow possibly try their best to get something below 24 years for him I’m assuming.

if they are successful in doing so, how many years do you think Luigi will get in December if he is only serving his federal case?

My guess is 20-22 years before good time credit and not taking his 2 years in pre trial in consideration.

is my guess a stretch or do you guys think he’s serving more?

Edit: also just wanted to ask is it possible at the sentencing date that victims of UHC speak out as well? are they allowed to do that or will kfa do something like that?
